    MLS

What a strange game. Atlanta dominated the match and were by far the better team. Martinez had an early penalty save that would have made it 2-0. Bradley should have been sent off (arguably twice!). Toroto's two goals were both superb strikes from outside the box, but low-percentage opportunities and basically the only efforts on goal they had the entire game. That was a game that Atlanta could have won by several goals on a different night. It will be interesting to see how the Atlanta fan base reacts if the team is ever mediocre. Over the past couple years they have developed very high expectations.
  2. Shelvey kept trying to force long balls into crowded spaces, turning the ball over time and time again. At one point I think Brighton had 80%+ of the possession in the first half. At least Ki was patient in making short passes, allowing us to keep possession and build attacks from natural areas, instead of playing hero balls. I think that helped a lot as we looked more settled at the end.
  3. Imagine having both Rondon and another younger prospect that eventually succeed Rondon for the same amount of money as Joelinton.
  4. Watch the club get sued and wind up having to pay substantially more than the full buyout.
  5. This transfer would purely be an investment in the eyes of NUFC, hoping to make a 2x - 3x. 22 years old (should hit peak resale value in 2-3 years), potential for "Brazilian premium" in a sale, comparables are Firmino and Richarlison, probably has the "right agent", etc.
  6. Back to the days of being a stepping stone. He won't be here long if he's any good, the tracksuit tycoon will cash him in. But aren't there more appealing stepping stones than us?
  7. I am baffled why a young player would want to join this shitshow. Must of had a lack of offers elsewhere?
  8. Ashley must be drooling right now, given the abundance of CBs we have. He will cash in on at least one.
  9. We'll wind up with some young manager from the lower leagues, who is willing to accept the ownership situation and transfer restrictions for a chance in the premier league. That or a washed-up manager that has been out of a job for a few years.
  10. Sign up Diame for a year and then peddle him to someone abroad for 2-3M
  11. Absolutely no need to speak English in the USA these days, Spanish almost as popular as a 1st language as English in a lot of places. This true Mike[/member], thomas[/member], Tomato Deuce[/member] Depends where you are, really. If you’re in atlanta you should prob know English. He’s a remotely quiet footballer - he prob just insulated himself from being out and about as been said before and didn’t bother. I live in Atlanta. It would be difficult to be the average person and live here, work, and be productive unless you knew English. You could survive but not exactly thrive in the mainstream. So saying there is “no need” is a bit of an overstatement. However, as a professional footballer on a team with a lot of international and Spanish speaking players, including a Spanish speaking coach, and substantial resources from the Club, Almiron never really needed to learn English. His situation was not exactly that of the average person trying to make it here
  12. As an Atlantan, that video is class. Simply incredible the impact he has had here.
  13. Going to be painful watching him get Pardew'd next season
  14. Peak Joselu was when the ball dropped to him in the box after that corner. He takes an awful touch which led to a Watford counterattack and the rest of the team sprinting back to recover.
  15. positives: they barely threatened and defense looked comfortable. Longstaff looks good. negatives: We lack any quality up front. Kenedy and Joselu terrible. Murphy only slightly better. Hayden just prances around and gives up stupid fouls.
  16. that was awful. Did we have a shot on goal? They are terrible too.
  17. He's an average player playing for an average team that values defense over offense. It's no surprise he hasn't bagged more goals. I've always wondered what a player with more pace could do in his place.
  18. I agree. He was causing problems for Tottenham during every set piece, and should have won a penalty. He's not the most skilled and pacy player, but he will score some ugly and physical goals. Which is exactly what a team in the bottom 3 needs.
  19. What if Blank “was in contact” with NUFC to not discuss a takeover bid but instead to get a reference check on Pardew
  20. from Tata Martino to Alan Pardew, fuck. I live in Atlanta and this would be absolutely devastating news. If I had to pick one person to destroy everything Tata has built, he would be the first name on my list. Arthur Blank is surely too diligent to do this
  21. Not totally convinced, but I'd say that he has much more potential upside (in terms of development) than those two. Lots of pace, likes to run at defends, skillful passer, etc. Your point about MLS is fair though. It's a league where Bradley Wright Phillips has scored 106 goals in 171 games. This year he's bagged 20 in 32 games at the age of 33.
  22. Almiron is very intriguing. He has shredded the MLS the past two years, but is playing on the one of the best teams in the league that is stacked with other attacking talent. Extremely fast player and works his socks off
  23. The same players were beaten last year mind you we did actually play our steongest 11 that time That's true, but my point is that getting soundly beaten shouldn't be that surprising to anyone when you consider Arsenal have made that leve of investment, and we're starting one of their youth rejects and other outcasts from relegated clubs.
  24. Ozil: £42.4m Lacazette: £46.5m Aubameyang: £56m Xhaka: £30
