While this is becoming circuitous, I don’t think the situations are the same. The first team squad is shallow on top-end talent; I had hoped he could use his supposed contacts book / knowledge of less popular markets to find us a difference maker or contributor over 2 windows. Perhaps you are right and truly he is not permitted to sign anyone. Who knows. On balance I’m not convinced by him. You are equally entitled to disagree.

    Quite the turnaround for Rod

Nope, that’s a non-sequitur. Howe did a good job last year in trying circumstances. I don’t mind if you want to see the positives with Mitchell, I just personally don’t see them based on his tenure with us to date.

    Because it’s a reasonable question

Because I don’t think he’s making much of a positive contribution: our first team squad has not improved since he arrived, despite this being a key part of his remit. TBH I was mainly joking, I’ve lost interest in nonsense of PSR, it sucks the joy from life.

A ridiculous comment - nobody on here knows with any degree of certainty what the financial situation is. Nobody here is paid very well to identify players who would be suitable given that financial situation. The reality is that a significant aspect of PM's role with the club is to improve the first team squad. In two windows, he has not done anything positive in that regard. As fans, we read when he was hired that he was responsible for identifying many (now) great players early, and helping acquire them for very good value prices. This was supposedly the price worth paying for his weird media conduct which caused a pointless and energy-sapping public disagreement with the manager (who has actually made serious positive contributions to the forward progress of the club within the confines of his remit). I'm really up for him proving that he's a positive contributor and that he justifies the hype, but on the basis of 8 months I don't think it's unreasonable to be pretty underwhelmed with his contribution.

Try again... It's said partly tongue in cheek, but it must surely be conceded that he's not had a significant impact in his first 8 months on the job?

    Another masterclass
  9. Essentially I do find it privately highly amusing but I don’t want to crow publicly because there’s a chance we have to play them in the league cup final, so I’m going to pretend we’re overreacting out of a false and misplaced sense of duty to the Toon
  10. I don’t see it myself. They have an absurd amount of injuries, similar to our run last year.
  11. I think it’s probably a bit “American”, but set pieces have always been a reliable source of scoring chances, so it makes sense. I’d happily have one for us if it meant we stopped crossing it to the first defender.
  12. They’ll be fine once they no longer have an entire defence unavailable.
  13. Point(s) here if Wet Spam want it/them
  14. Yikes. I expected them to turn it around, even with their injuries. Leicester aren’t up to much.
  15. They’d be stupid to sack him at this point with so many players injured. Spurs fans correctly identifying that the problem is the neoliberal worm at the top of the organisation.
  16. Mercy whistle from the ref there. Another fiery and passionate “London derby”.
  17. It was too good an opportunity to pass up. Normally I’d agree that it’s twattish pedantry.
  18. If that was given against us we would all be demanding an apology and no ban etc. What I found interesting is how quickly Oliver whipped out the red - he didn’t deliberate or take any advice, which supports the violent conduct interpretation. Even though I don’t think it is a red, I am fully behind the potential for it to make teams stop cynically ending counter-attacks that way. It’s cheating but is has become good strategy; it shouldn’t be rewarded.
  19. Or vs Brentford, which admittedly has also been an awful watch. Weather not helping - I live nearby and it’s grotesque outside
  20. Bournemouth surely on steroids
