Watching back the cup final from last year, it was really stark how good we were at closing down opposition on the edge of our box compared to this year. I think having to double up out wide to help Trippier has played a part - but I'm hopeful with Tino and Hall back, Tonali and Joelinton can defend the edge with tenacity. I believe!

So defensively stout in the second half. Really limited to Palmer floating those curling balls in from central areas (and his technique on them is admittedly very good), and their runners trying to glance them into the corner of the goal. But the defenders stayed goal side and did enough to make them tough chances. Elanga did nicely when he came on too. Starting to lose the happy feet and take his time to make the right decision. Great to see. So many positives from that.

Been a real leader at both ends of the pitch. Done well to get the ball to stick with mainly balls over the top and down the channels.

Nice result at HT. Uneven performance but some bright spots in Gordon and Ramsey in particular. Good to score against the run of play. Weird that Woltemade is being used to mark Palmer out of possession Willock is not in my good books. So easy to frazzle. When confronted by opposition he just hands over the ball and his lunch money. Even the assist he should have took on! Loved Woltemade's gallop over the ball for that last Ramsey chance. Hope second half isn't too energy-sapping.

Mental week. Ecstasy of the Osula worldie winner after being (wrongly) playing with 10 men for ages, pretty comprehensive and crushing defeat to Man City in the Cup showing how far away we are to the mountaintop, and then this gutsy Barca performance which has generated massive ambivalence. I personally feel that although this is a highly frustrating season in many ways, to have this kind of an emotional rollercoaster and tension in March is pretty good if you zoom out from this season in isolation.

Hall needs a breather for sure. I'd rotate the lot personally Give Wissa all the minutes.

Also it will go a bit unnoticed but I think having Ramsdale back there was huge today. Allowed us to slow the game down and pass with confidence along the back and take the sting out of the tempo at times beautifully.
