    Our away support

I can't help but feel those who wrote "it's only £20" [or words to that effect] are missing the principle of the issue. How is it fair that supporters (many of whom can't regularly see Newcastle) are levied with a charge to guard against a contingent of mong fans who presumably live close enough to make it to a Darlo game? If your answer is "added security" or "accountability" or a similar answer, why would a free registration process with an ID verification process (at negligible expense to the club) be a problem? Not like we're using the Carroll money for transfers. Edit: I'm not close-minded on the issue either btw, but I keep ending up at the same conclusion - the decision is disrespectful to the fans which support the club

    Our away support

If the club did genuinely wanted to do something they'd offer a free away membership (admin costs would be small), instead they've spun the whole thing into a money making opportunity for themselves. Agree 100% with Neesy. As someone who predominantly goes to away games, this is very disappointing news and strikes me as a transparent method to boost membership sales. It's tough to support this club sometimes.
  8. What ? The Autumn ? as in during the season ? Sounds a good idea, some warm weather training to prepare for errr..... the winter Maybe while good teams have their players off on international duty?
  9. And don't you believe that's exactly what the club statement will read!

    Sammy Ameobi

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news//tm_headline=donaldson-and-ameobi-set-to-go-out-on-loan%26method=full%26objectid=29073084%26siteid=72703-name_page.html Bit wary of sending out all our promising youth out on loan, tbh - our squad depth isn't fantastic (cf. the panic beginning to set in when people thought Cabaye was injured!) Would keep Sammy, personally. Especially if we don't bring in another striker.
  11. Barton and Cabaye playing through balls to a Ranger who was able to time his runs/finish would be quite good to watch/effective. [/high in Holland]

    Alan Pardew

I'm inclined to agree - in the build up to this season, playing two strikers up front seems to have been very much overlooked so far. Maybe because our midfield is now burgeoning with creativity (with the return of HBA and the arrival of Cabaye/Marveaux) and our options up top look unsatisfactory, but in terms of the shape of the team - I don't think the personnel of the squad should dictate the make-up of our first eleven. Obviously we don't know how everyone will gel, but I'd be inclined to start the season like this: Barton Tiote Cabaye Jonas Ba/Best HBA* (With HBA as an out and out striker, not playing off Ba/Best, or in the hole). Subs: Marveaux, Ameobis, Ferguson...

    Our away support

Never been to a game drunk, like to enjoy the match, unsurprisingly.
  15. I didn't watch the game, but this from .com encourages ne greatly: That description, if true, seems like one befitting of the attitude of a Cronaldo. Someone who will take the game by the scruff of the neck, make things happen, even be a little selfish about it... I like that. Reading into things a little much, I know - but what the hey.
  16. Would a fair valuation method be to think of his value if a club had him under contract for, say, four years and then divide that by four? Maybe use a discount factor to account for the present value of money? I don't know. Around the £8-10m mark for one season of Jose sounds about right, given: a) the quality of player he is b) the cost of replacement/impact on the club he's leaving (us) c) the stature of the club likely to go in for such a player Edit: maybe more
  17. Pardew's "airing of dirty laundry" strikes me as diaphanous as taking Enrique down to a market stall in London, donning a Del Boy flat cap and -literally- slapping a price tag on Jose Enrique's head. Then spouting the same crap over and over until some passerby takes interest. If Jose wants to move, fine. Looking for a buyer like this is cringeworthy though.

    We're Doomed

Nothing wrong with expressing dissatisfaction or worry with the progression of our summer transfer (in/)activity. The window is open for a while longer, but given some fairly telling quotes, recent trends and what we know of Ashley's regime - how can you begrudge fans scepticism over what is (or isn't) to come? Committing to one side or the other, of the window being immutably good or irrevocably bad is the only stance worthy of mockery, I would think. For my part, I am quite saturnine about how the rest of the summer will play out. Enrique will leave/be unhappy, Tiote may get his head turned (unlikely, at this point... I hope!) and I'm not expecting Ashley to spend big (rightly or wrongly) to bring in talents of N'Zogbia's calibre to the club. If we do bring in genuine quality, I expect it to be because we are lucky there is a good free transfer or cheap option going, not because the club/regime is showing any great ambition (ie. luck not design). Very much hope to be proved wrong, though.
  19. It's an ironic laughed aimed at people who ignore what happens on the pitch and cling to ill-conceived player stereotypes. I hope.
  20. Essien out for six months? Hide Tiote!

    Sunderland...

http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=608094 Post #4 has Wes Brown scoring 4 goals this season. That's one more than the rest of his career. At Manchester United. Winning FA Cups. Premier League titles. Champions' League trophies.
