  1. This seems like a sudden death type of encounter - first goal wins (not necessarily by a one-goal margin, mind).

    Shola Ameobi

Of course, but there's much work Shola does on the field that's not appreciated and not that visible. His role as a holding attacker has been fantastic this season. He keeps the ball upfront long enough, which makes it possible for the midfield to move upwards in the field. It's essential that the attacker does not loose the ball in such situations, because this will create dangerous counterattacks. Nolan against City away, was an good example of how it shouldn't be done. Also, when we play better teams, Shola drops down to the midfield to support them. This is shitty work, and often not seen, but has to be done. Zonalmarking has written about what I've now mentioned, if you're interested. Good post.

  4. What an absolute load of crud. Yeah, Huth should take the corners and Etherington should be in the box. Ancelotti wants him taking the set pieces so Lampard can hang about on the edge of the area and Terry/Ivanovic and others can compete for the headers. Anyone concluding from that tactic that Drogba has 'no heart for battle' is suffering from either bias or stupidity. Or both. Ouch. 1) Anyone who has seen Drogba over the course of his career knows that whilst he is physically big and possesses a lot of strength, he is also a pussy, who dives, makes cowardly fouls and isn't the warrior you'd expect someone of his size to be. This is evinced in his overall play - not just my initial comment. You've been watching him for a while now with your Drogba-blinkered glasses, of course - and knowing what you're like with your "favourites", I'm not surprised you can't recognise this. 2) Why does that plan any worse with all three of Ivanovic/Drogba/Terry in the middle, Lampard waiting for the lay-off and Malouda/Boswinga/Cole pinging in the ball? 3) Jermaine Beckford/Andy Cole.
  5. No, but plenty of small Chelsea players with no physical presence do.

  7. Never understood why a centre forward of Drogba's size is the set piece taker instead of in the box. No heart for battle.
  8. Liverpool's tactics are to bore 3 points off Chelsea.
  9. Don't think any result in the West Ham vs Brum game is massively desirable/undesirable for NUFC. On a personal level, Brum fans are scum and NUFC tend to get good results against West Ham - so hope West Ham win/stay in the league over Brum.
  10. Seems harsh. They have more than enough about them to have stayed up.
  11. Not that much Shirley - I mean the odds were suspended after a minute, and by the time they opened again it was 2-0 and probably 1/50 or something - more than it's worth anyone betting on. Unless some poor souls thought it'd a better investment than their bank account's sub-2% interest rate.

No, I haven't got a typing impediment spelling 'Everton'. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11678_6732975,00.html Yay or nay?

    Massive potential.
  15. Dowd has to be our favourite referee btw. 3 penalties and two opposition sending offs in two games.
  16. Pains me to say it, but the moron Ronaldo is right IMO not a penalty As has been said numerous times however, Best's goal was onside. It's an interesting one though - and one I can definitely see both sides of - when you're accelerating straight up into the air, you're a lot more susceptible to being toppled by what (on the ground) would seem like minimal contact.
  17. That would have been a Bent special. Keeper incapacitated, more or less open goal from 5 yards.
  18. Even though it is Sunderland, you hate to see Stoke. Ugh. Terrible team.
