  1. From birth though my memory only goes back to the 'Pop' Robson team of 1970 - just my luck to be post Fairs Cup. Remember signing SuperMac. First game was in the Anglo Scottich Cup against Ayr (w 2-0), I think in 1972.

    3D

Might improve the vision of our midfield if they played in 3D - then again
  3. Jonas and Enrique played great in the second half but it is frustrating that the chances they create don't become goals very often. Harewood was much better than Ranger. Butt and Smith can't play in the same team; at least Butt was subbed early. Guthrie let his penalty miss get to his head and play awfully. Defence was solid. Midfield was slow, especially in the first half.

    Jonas Gutierrez

If he plays tonight on the left he'll probably be up against a midfielder playing right back so hopefully him and Enrique can have some fun.
  5. if only it was just his legs but it seems he's lost his vision and balance as well.....
  6. Do you think Taylor and Colly were rested deliberatly to show how weak we are in centre defence? Just seemed strange to rest those two and play two kids in CD who usually play full back. Throw in a young keeper and we had a disaster waiting to happen (x3). I thought the game also showed that Ranger, LuaLua, Kadar and Krul have a little way to go to make the first team. Introducing them one at a time may be more effective. I was impressed with Simpson even though he is too small to be a CB. Well timed tackles and organising from the lad. I thought Enrique was again our best player - just hope he stays. I also thought Shola made a difference and you could sense the confidence he has right now. Whatever the opposition it was good to come back from 3-1.
  7. On the 31st I'd like to see the team put 7 past Leicester again from a bar in Spain. On the 1st I'd still like to have a team aged over 16.
  8. Reckon we need to give youth a chance in general and that means Krul will get my vote - not that it counts for anything. The thing I like about him is his size - if you were to design a keeper from scratch you'd want someone his height and with his reach that is still athletic enough to get down. I thought he tried his best to dominate the box to help the defence (unlike Harps or Shay). Of course as a young keeper he is bound to make mistakes but I'd back him to come good.
  9. Spoke to a guy I know in the UAE who says Mahjoob is a real guy but doesn't have £100m to burn. Its a joke.
  10. they also have an overdraft facility with their local bank
  11. When I cancelled I also got the £3.33 offer - still turned it down, just wish I'd cancelled in Feb and I could have saved £30.
  12. tbh he has more medals than shearer and the whole of the first team together
  13. Terrible news. Agree with BobYule that it means that Ashley couldn't afford Shearer's plans and can't afford to dump Shearer. Whatever the truth of the overdraft we are in for a Summer of fire sales where we'll lose Taylor and Bassong cheaply and manage to keep Duff and Geremi. The sale of the club will spill into next season so we'll start the campaign with a temporary manager and the club in turmoil. The only plus I can see is that the sale of the JJB shares indicates Ashley is doing something to prevent a total meltdown. Hard to see where the £40m overdraft comes from given the profits we've made in the last two transfer windows and the fact that we don't have interest payments on the stadium now. Next season a virtual disaster already!
  14. I'm on the 3 year DD scheme. Anyone know what happens if season ticket prices are reduced or indeed if they will be.
  15. should we change the thread title to 'who will be the 121st person to leave the club'?
  16. Probably going to announce the deal at the Fairs Cup dinner tonight don't you think/hope?
  17. When did Butt get a new contract? I know it was talked about but I thought he was still on his original contract with one year to run.
  18. Worried that everyone (including Shearer?) thinks Butt is staying. His lack of pace, poorly timed tackles (giving away pens) and inability to retain possession are one of the key factors in our demise as far as I'm concerned and i'd be worried if he was anywhere near our first team next season. Don't fault his effort - just not enough quality.
  19. The Guardian has the team as Harper Taylor Taylor Colo Enrique Guthrie Butt Nolan Duff Viduka Martins I'm with the posters who are expecting a disappointing afternoon. There's no quality or pace in midfield and I've gone for a 3-0 loss and Villa winning at HT/FT at the bookies. My heart will take over from my head at 4pm tomorrow but i expect to be richer come 6pm. Roll on next season
  20. There probably hasn't been a harder call for MoM for a long while - well done to Nolan for grabbing such a keenly contested accolade. Hurrah!
  21. Hardly any positives today - the return of Barton would have been if he could just engage brain now and again for 90 mins not 75. Thought Duff had a good game considering he was at full back.
