  1. Abso-fucking-lutely. and the spectre of teams knowing the result they need a day in advance. Two teams belaying for a 2-2 draw. No thanks
  2. Nah, every four is right. Dead against adding more teams as well.
  3. No hand-eagle? Somebody had a word? (Actually, I could do without the political provocation. But it’s unexpected from him.)
  4. Brazil could play a B team tomorrow. Wouldn’t count them out completely. Really rooting for Ghana. Hope they drub Uruguay.
  5. Bizarre. The news service accounts are vague, perhaps purposely vague. Several mention disturbances in Rotterdam, NL. Are these Belgian fans or Moroccan fans? In the video, there appear to be be several people carrying Moroccan flags, but that could be confluence of people. Whoever they are the violence appears directed at property rather than people, which I guess is something. Assholes. Then the report contrasts the problems in Belgium with celebrations in Morocco.
  6. I try and try to root for Mexico in all international tournaments due to some sort of fake Concacaf loyalty pact, but I’m never too bothered when they fail. They’re always just good enough to go out on penalties.
  7. All these pundits arguing that Trent Alexander-Arnold would’ve made the difference.
  8. What’s the tiebreaker? If US and Iran draw, they’re both on 3 points. Iran has -2 goal differential, US 0. I’m reading that US must win. Is that correct? (could see Iran playing for 0-0, and getting it)
  9. I’ve never see the US put in three decent performances in a World Cup group stage. There’s always been at least one stinker.
  10. RE: Prohibiting stuff rarely minimizes societal harm. I disagree. We don’t allow usury, Ponzi schemes, or heroin There’s a lot of practices that we rightly ban. I don’t agree that such laws rarely benefit society. Prohibition is an obvious and egregious counter example. There is no public demand for online sports betting in California. The ballot initiative went down hard. We do have horse racing, card rooms, state lotteries, and gaming on American Indian casinos. Also we’re close enough to Nevada for Reno or Vegas to be cheap weekend trips. I have never lived in a culture where online betting is a thing. I don’t see any benefits.
  11. California just voted down an initiative that would allow online gambling. Thankfully. (I voted against against the initiative myself. )
