Seven managers in the last ten years. How long has Allardyce got?
OzzieMandias replied to Parky's topic in Football
It's not just a question of how much time Ashley and co. will give him. It's also a question of how much time we give him. The recent widespread panic and doom-mongering when our transfer activity hit a lull is a reminder that, boy, can we be one fickle, impatient, unrealistic bunch! I hope we grant Allardyce the same latitude we gave Sir Bobby in his first couple of seasons, because there are no instant answers to the mess our club is in. I think Allardyce should be allowed the three years of his contract, and then more if it's working. Successful clubs are the ones who find the right manager and stick with him. -
Obviously not time to get shot, if only for the reason that he's injured and no one's going to buy him this window. We have to see how it looks in January, and by then we'll have a better idea how he fits into Sam's scheme of things – how often we're playing 4-3-3, how good he looks when he does play, what other players get injured etc. I don't think Owen-Viduka is the only option in a 4-4-2, however. Could also play Owen-Smith or Owen-Shola.

I'm not remotely excited about Smith, but he's miles more useful than Bowyer.
-
What's that supposed to mean?

What other option did we have? How about not renewing his contract until he'd proved his fitness? Let his original deal, at a far less cost, run it's course. And lose the player for nothing, while telling other players who might be thinking of coming here that we won't stand by them if they get injured? Ozzie, If you think we've had good value from Kieron Dyer since we signed him all those years ago and his service deserves any form of loyalty payment then thats up to you. Personally, I think he's the lowest of the low and I, for one, will be booing the bastard at every given opportunity whoever he plays for next season. I've said nowt about loyalty payments, so save it. Meanwhile, back to what we were actually talking about... Would you work for someone who might sack you when you got sick? If I had an employer who had stuck by me through years of sickness, questionable performance after paying £6m to get me to join them I THANK my fucking lucky stars and think it would be better than a lottery win. I don't think I could bring myself to stitch them up if I chose to leave and I think I'd have the decency to put in a leaving/transfer request given that I'd be embarrassed at my performance since their initial investment. Perhaps that's just me though, eh Ozzie? Was the question "Would you work for someone who might sack you when you got sick?" too difficult, then? On the one hand you're saying we should have turfed Dyer out when (because) he was injured, and on the other you're slagging him for his alleged lack of loyalty. Spot the contradiction. Face it, no one on here really knows what's been going on with this transfer. Meanwhile, when else has he been either disloyal or greedier than any other footballer?

What earlier evidence is there of Dyer's "greed and desire to shaft the club"?
-
"There is a feeling on Tyneside..." Now, honestly, what does that really mean?

Well considering he'd spent f*ck knows how long there, that's obvious! And tbh, I bet 90% of the people who hate him didn't know about him saying that. No it's not, you're either a Newcastle fan or not, to say you want Man Utd to beat us in a cup final is fair enough but to come out with the usual bollocks about how he's a Newcastle fan now shows what an idiot he really is. The Mancs are welcome to him. You can be a proud Geordie without supporting the football club. But he does say he supports the club and refers to us as his team, usually just before we play them or we need a manager. The blokes an arse and a s**** manager to go with it. We would have been his boyhood club without a shadow of a doubt. He'd have adopted Man Utd due to his attachment to them as a player. As I've said a few times now, it's up to him if he wants Man Utd to turn us over but stop playing the "Life long Newcastle fan" card when it suits him. Until one of us have spent 10 years or so at a club where you won cups, titles, were adored by the fans, etc. we'll never find out what's it's like... Irrelevant. If someone's allegiance gets eroded because of long-term professional involvement with other clubs, fair enough. Bobby Charlton is another former Geordie at Man U. But he doesn't claim to give a shit what happens to us. I simply don't believe Bruce gives a toss, and I find it contemptible that he pretends he still bleeds black and white. Tony Blair is a better Toon supporter than he is, and that's saying something.

Got a laugh out of that, at least.

Blond hair and a Yorkshire accent?

Welll I'm not up for us wasting resources, and talking about matters of principle is bollocks as none of us on here knows the truth about what's been going on with this transfer. If Dyer's on the books, and fit, he should play when the manager thinks it makes tactical sense.

I remember that game, and I never heard anyone get so much stick either. It was like some brilliant, insane pantomime. I jeered myself hoarse. I think we won 6-1, and Ginola got their goal, which made it even better somehow. The best bit was just before half time, when he went down on his arse, and the ref waved play on. Ginola stayed on his arse, and the referee eventually came over and told him to get the fuck up and stop moaning. A few minutes later the half-time whistle went, and everyone trooped off except for Ginola, who went over to remonstrate further with the officials. He then had to walk from the centre circle back to the tunnel all by himself, with the entire crowd booing and jeering their heads off. Brilliant.

If he doesn't go to another club, I can't see Allardyce just leaving him in the reserves. He'll use him if he thinks it makes sense.
-
He's probably saying, "Look at how much trouble I can cause if you don't feed me stories."

Let's egg his house!!

Your view contradicts itself. You want the UK to have laxer immigration laws for certain people yet stiffer ones for others. You blame the EU for the UK's stiff immigration policies for non-EUers, and then also moan the fact that EU citizens can come and work in the UK if they want. And the single market has been of huge benefit to the UK. Take a look at our trade figures/main trading partners sometime, if you ever get an urge to understand the subject, rather than just issuing incoherent rants.

Leeds to start League One 15 points adrift
OzzieMandias replied to WarrenBartonCentrePartin's topic in Football
I can't help finding it funny. Always hated Leeds, both the club and the city. It was also funny when Man City tumbled into the third division (whatever it was called at that point). -
I'd like to think that was the case. Is that a hunch or based on a quote? Either way, i'm inclined to believe you. Just a hunch, I think with all of the change at the club Mort is doing his best just to steady the ship, he probably wants Europe and if they spend money on a left back and a right back then I think he'll expect it, it doesn't really benefit anyone by telling the press that though. I really cant wait for the season to start now and its been a while since i had any sense of anticipation about a coming season. Only then will we really know if the lads coming in are good enough to get us into europe. However, i think Mort has played this pre-season really well, our expectations are our biggest downfall at times and he hasnt come out with any easy PR to appease the unrest and seems to have supported Sam in his efforts. I think a top class RB would complete the picture for this season too. My hope is that if Sam repeats his feats with Bolton and gets our squad to over-perform that will mean he releases funds next year that could mean breaking the top 4. Doesn't look like the keeping-expectations-down thing is working very well, tbh.
-
Nor should it. Free movement of people and labour is one of the main principles of the EU.
-
The pressure for the UK to keep a stiff immigration policy is entirely domestic.
-
This is way, way off the mark, he is an infinitely better player than Aaron Hughes. But that doesn't matter, he can be Ronaldinho for all the difference it makes if he is never, ever fit. You should have tried egging his house.

Let's all go and egg their houses! That'll teach them to get injured!!
