It was mentioned at the time. Shepherd had allowed the game to be moved forward for Sky despite the midweek game and a lot of people were angry about that.

Blatantly wants to grab Gooch's, erm, gooch. (I know, I know. Zero points for originality. )

But that's where you're wrong. The point is that the Brum game is the one game this month where the scoreline gave a true reflection of the game. The other games were the "freak results" in the sense that the scoreline greatly masked or (in the games that we won) actually betrayed the way the game went. I agree. I'd say the Brum game was a freak performance * not a freak result, in that we were absolutely dreadful and they were particularly good on the night. The scoreline was fair. We were an unmotivated shambles on the night, we've shown a bit more motivation since then but the quality has not been significantly greater IMO. * Not that I'm saying we've been the Harlem Globetrotters before and since then mind.

Hitzfeld takes over at Bayern - HTT on suicide watch

Thank Christ for that! I thought they'd try to nick Glenda from us for sure! -
No idea. If he is, I guess it renders my post obsolete, although some would say that all my posts are anyway*. * but they would be bastards, cruel cruel bastards for saying such things.

Defoe, Mido, Berbatov, Keane 4 is easily enough strikers for Spurs surely. Why would he pay £8 million for Harewood when he isn't as good as any of the four he has?

If you're going to fucking publish things on a website and put yourself up for ridicule by many thousands of opposition fans, the least you can do is have a decent command of the English Language. In fairness to HTT when he goes on his long rants, despite his Rutherford School education, he is reasonably eloquent. THese brummie cunts, writing about us, seriously, people can say "Villa are our rivals ..." fuckin etc... to me they'll alway be fat brummie boring fucking bastards, maybe nature did intend them, but if ever there's a club I never think of it's them. They're just there. At least Tottenham have identity. Fat cunts. It just goes to show the nation is obsessed with NUFC. Fat fuckin cunts http://www.thefootie.com/wp-content/uploads/frank-lampard-shock.jpg Brummies if you're reading, you have an opinion on us, at the end of the day if you weren't there no one would notice you know that yourselves. If ever there's a nuke inflicted on these islands, god forbid, people could cope with the west midlands getting it, as long as the winds blowing west over mid Wales so not too many cunts get the faal oot. At least scousers can be interesting. mackems.gif Quality post

Worse than Ramage ? Not a good enough improvement on him IMO.

God I hope not. He's shit IMO.

You're entitled to your opinion and everything. You're just wrong. He's been a manager longer than Mourinho and has achieved nowhere near the same success. In five years time, he will have been a manager as long as Benitez has now. I would bet big that he will have achieved nowhere near the same success in his career at that point than Benitez right now. There is a reason that they are at big clubs that expect to win things and he has stayed at tiny Bolton for 8 years.

Time will tell on that score.

It means he's good at penalties, one good attribute of a striker, it doesn't necessarily mean that he would make a good striker. So he's good at penalties. His heading, movement, general finishing, strength etc. probably aren't good enough for him to play up front. All attributes need to be considered. Goals scored by using any of them are valid but if a striker were to rely too heavily on only one (as Barry presumably would), it is unlikely that he will be a good goalscorer.

Can't argue with many of them but, and no offence intended, for some unknown reason, Dave's avatar irritates the piss out of me. -
I literally loathe the guy. Trying to make out that he's loyal now is he? I wonder if Palace fans would see him in that light.

What am I missing? I don't want to read the whole thing!

Manchester United (H)- Pre match thread

What the hell is a 'post match prediction'? I'll leave mine til, erm, after the match if I may. -
Absolute crap, yeah I'm sure when you take pens in the park against your mates its not that hard. But try taking a penalty with thousands of people watching and putting there faith in you to score what is considered an easy chance.. Try taking a penalty for your country knowing your entire nation is watching you and that the next thing you do will make you a hero or a national target. its anything but easy. If you took 50 pens in Premiership games I'd bet you'd miss 40 of them and so would I. but you can be a good pen taker without being a good striker is the point but you can be a good striker without being a good penalty taker, you can be a good striker without being a good header of the ball, you can be a good striker without being a good goal poacher, you can be a good striker without being good in dead ball situations, etc. Why are goals scored using one skill regarded as legitimate but goals scored because of another skill dismissed?
-
Whether you personally like it or not, the fact remains.
-
Being able to take penalties is a skill, a string to the bow of a striker. Some strikers are good at it (eg Shearer) and some are not (eg Owen). Taking the recognition of this attribute away when evaluating the goalscoring ability of a striker is as unfair as removing tap ins or goals scored against relegation-threatened sides or goals scored in the later stages of games after coming on as a substitute IMO.

The guy who was never outscored by any striking partner at this club, even in those last two years? That's because he didn't have a good partner for the last two years. I do agree the man is an absolute legend, but you cannot deny that for the last two or so seasons his performance levels were substandard a lot of the time. Michael Owen not a good partner? IMO, the team didn't play to Shearer's strengths enough in the last few years and that's why he looked ineffective a lot of the time. I honestly don't think of his performances as a disgrace though. He always gave his all. Owen only played 10 games, not enough to outscore Shearer over 40 odd. Hence, the wink.
