  1. I would agree, this is one position we have failed to address since selling Milner so at least we are buying players where the squad desperately needs to be strengthened for a change, and kudos to Hughton for that at least. Now he just needs to be a half decent player and we're sorted.
  2. Weren't the Republic one of the first countries to push for membership of the EU? Fuck off and appeal to Brussels then instead of filling the back pages of British newspapers with your sob stories.
  3. Allardyce is probably one of the few managers who could take a lesson in humility from Alex Ferguson. His over-inflated opinion of his (crap) abilites rub me up the wrong way, but beyond football I wouldn't wish ill health on anyone.

Like Given, Beardsley left because he wanted to. He was offered better money and went to a club he thought was better than Newcastle. Thats what professional footballers tend to do. Ironically the player who really did not want to leave but was to some extent pushed out was Chris Waddle, and yet he seemed to face more animosity after his departure being called Judas etc. Beardsley never really wanted to leave Newcastle unlike the mackem sausage factory worker. At least get your facts right.
  5. How come a country which doesn't even agree to share our national currency is provoking so much defensive reaction on their behalf by our members?
  6. Why? When Jack Charlton tried to do the same thing with Newcastle he got booed out of the town.
  7. Ireland got what they deserved IMO. They played shite anti-football and got robbed in the end. Poetic justice.

I think he means as a place to retire. Here in his own words, make your own mind up: "I'd love to finish my career here," Given told the club's official website. "I haven't been here long, but I already feel at home and love the club. "I grew up a Celtic supporter and they have a big place in my heart, but I really hope I can finish my career here. You can never say never, but I'd like to think I will."
  9. Ashley's communication is awful. He rarely speaks himself, and it would probably be better if LLambias didn't speak at all. His favoured method of communication seems to be leaking stories in the rags. Shepherd was a plank but at least he wasn't afraid to speak directly to the public.

I see Given mentioned how his former club would always have a special place in his heart. Celtic that is.
  11. The Sun claiming that NUST has snubbed a meeting with Ashley
  12. All the signs point to another Marlon Harewood. Big time Charlie who hasn't quite made it, but still wants to be paid as if he has. Doubt this will come to anything unless he's genuine about want ing to be here and will accept Championship wages. Marlon Harewood is currently employed by a Premiership club. Fabrice is employed by no one. I doubt it is the same. Come to think of it he's not called Marlon either...you might have a point. What I'm saying is that Marlon Harewood believes he's a Premiership player that has fallen out of favor with his manager. Pancrate was floating around as a free agent in November and must realise that this is one of the last chances he'll get. He has no club or contract to fall back on. Harewood leaves here and continues picking up a pay cheque. This is not the situation with the Frenchman. Ok, but both are players who have fallen from fairly lofty heights in recent years and both seem to have trouble adjusting to the fact that they won't be treated like big stars any more. I'm assuming that the quotes attributed to Kevin Blackwell that Pancrates wanted 75k a week are genuine btw. I was just responding to that suggestion. It doesn't say he wanted £75k a week. It says they wanted a fee of £75k to take him on until January despite the fact he was a free agent. Whether thats a fee on top of his wages, or what his wages from now till then would amount to, I don't know. Ok, but even so asking for a fee of 75k to sign when you are a free agent doesn't send out the best message.
  13. Or even the players we've been signing in the last few years. We've paid big money for players who have got us relegated on 80k a week.

  15. Another one people slagged off without possibly knowing how good he actually was at his job. Did anyone really slag Clarkie off, or did they just not get enthusiastic about giving former players jobs unless they had proved themselves?

  17. How about cheer up Stevie Bru-u-c-e, oh what can it mean for a sad mackem bastard in a shit football team (repeat)
  18. That's pretty much how I would look at this. Simpson is a long way from being the type of full back the better premier teams would go for as he's not pretty cautious going forwards ( compare him to Enrique for example). But I really like him because he's a good defender, relatively mobile and has a great attitude. Like Danny Guthrie, he might not pull up any trees but he's a quality young squad player who will be good value for money. Great signing IMO. He's a decent player who'll do well in the Championship. Calling him a "great signing" is a bit much though. Great signing for us in our current context obviously. I did explain that he's young and will be fairly good value for money as well, for us that's a great signing.

  21. Or the fans for that matter. Why has he come out when the fans are at their most furious and put himself directly in the firing line? Why break his silence just to do that? Hardly seems like the actions of a prospective buyer. Why not? Most businessmen will look for opportunites to make their investments more profitable, most just wouldn't be so cack-handed as Ashley about it.
  22. It hasn't worked then. No one is interested in buying the club at the current valuation, Ashley can keep trying to flush out mystery bidders till the cows come home.
  23. It's good to see Clarke proving himself by results rather than local affection is my way of looking at it. Chris Hughton also deserves respect by that token though.

    Peter Løvenkrands

Which clubs would these be? Which clubs would these be? Rangers, Shalke and Newcastle had a decent pedigree in Europe duirng Lovenkrands playing career I believe.
