  1. Keegan - strange one...usually just walks away when he's had enough. Souness - couldn't survive without this ongoing pension fund Dalglish - see above Robson - got screwed royally but still stayed on 'til sacked uncermoniously...deserved every penny he got. walked away quietly: Roeder - understandbly being a yes man hired to take orders Gullitt - followed orders, got sacked took no money in compensation. On reflection, which managers do you feel deserve compensation over and above wages paid?
  2. Looking at the injury list, he might be asked to play in any case. Not the ideal game to have so many first teamers missing with so much attention on this game.
  3. Wise was following the programme Keegan wasn't. It's hardly surprising Ashley came down on his side, I doubt personality had much to do with it. Ashley is running the club as a business, that much is clear. I'm just not convinced anyone else who comes in won't do any different, unless they put the club into debt. That's what has happened at Liverpool and Man U and they have far bigger income resources than us.
  4. Yep and the most pointless one. If you don't think about it, it might go away.
  5. That's not a problem for us, he can live in London and travel up on the day of the match. Or he could live in London and watch it on the telly like Dennis.
  6. Where'd you get your MBA from then? Just admit you don't know what you're on about and shot your mouth off without reading/understanding it properly. tell me what your point is, your post, then subsequent arguments are so contradictory. it reads that you think a business cannot operate with shareholders, having varying amounts of equity, or does it not, your post is a shambolic argument to be fair, .. You should stick to writing poems, they are quite catchy.
  7. Sums up the logic of about 80% of those against tbh. Agreed. Its a complete irrelevance that he scored goals against us, it was his job! It wasn't a genuine criticism I was just stoking the fire to see if I got a spark. Anyway if you think logically about it he is a non starter. Because most football fans are creatures of instinct and he is so far tainted by recent events their instincts would tell them never to give him a chance. He'd be getting boos (rightly or wrongly, its just a fact) before we'd even kicked a ball under him. He'd have to be the love child of Ferguson and Brian Clough to be a success here. He'd only cock up his own carrer and set us back another year or two and allow another smug sky sports presenter to say crap like 'it's never dull in Newcastle' and 'Newcastle are now looking for their 7th manager in 5 years' etc etc. I agree it would be like adding fuel to the fire and it's a fair point. Other than that though, he is highly rated inside the game, him and Wise were not welcomed at Leeds but by the time Poyet left, the fans had been won round. He would obviously fit in with 'Team Ashley' which might not be popular, but will work better from the club's point of view. Ashley might just reason that he's so unpopular, now what difference would it make bringing one more in?
  8. Jonas was on the bench so he should be ok. You could be right about Colo though.
  9. He'd probably apply for another management job and slap in a £12m bid for the lad.
  10. Did Roeder not happen ?? Roeder's problem was his ineptitude as a manager: signing players and building a squad. Our next appointment won't have to worry about that. Roeder's problem was that he had the spine of a jelly fish, and in the end the players were walking all over him.
  11. Forget campaigning as a way of forcing Ashley out. I agree it's very unlikely to work to that end. The situation is though that the club has seriously pissed off most supporters by its actions in the last week, and whether that be by negligence, by design or through no fault of his own, does not change that fact. I'm sure at this moment Ashley is regretting what has happened and if he could go back in time he'd do something to at least put off Keegan resigning (until he could undermine him a bit more ho ho). However, if after such a sacred cow has been used and cast adrift, if after such an initial public outcry, there were now to be no protests, no boycoutts, no repercussions whatsoever, what message does that send to Ashley? If he can carry on through this as if nothing has happened, it tells him he can do whatever the f*** he likes with the club from now to the end of time and noone will bat an eyelid. Is that the "relationship" we want with the owner of the club? Protest and affect the revenue of his other businesses now and it sends him a message so perhaps he'll at least think twice about crossing the supporters again. Do nothing, and expect an equal measure of respect to be given to our opinion in the future. Excellent post UV. That's a great point. I doubt he is going to change his outline strategy because of the boycott. He won't like how it's turned out but I would imagine he believes in what he's doing.
  12. Chris Hughton looks far too docile to be a manager. I don't see any harm in leaving him in charge for a couple of weeks though to allow everybody to cool down. Once it becomes apparent we are just drifting along going nowhere except towards the bottom, the fans might start to appreciate we need someone to lead and direct.

  14. that just means he's the one Ashley's henchmen would prefer. It needs Poyet to be receptive for it to happen and he's ruled himself out.
  15. Well Terim and Zico have declared their interest but with no links to the poisoned dwarf, surely haven't got a hope in hell.
  16. That about sums it up, but Tron would have you believe he's the next Arsene Wenger. Well he's not coming so it's pointless wasting any more effort on this. Can someone draw the curtains please?
  17. You forgot to add: - is an ugly Uruguyan cunt.
  18. I wouldn't have a problem because I don't hate him to start with. On the pitch he used to get on my wick when he scored against us, but he built up a good reputation for the work he did at Leeds. I don't think he'll be persuaded though, not the most attractive option to uproot to the north where the supporters of your own team would be willing you to fail.
  19. Thanks that was enlightening. The fans would love Zico if that is his football philosophy.
  20. Basically it is a choice of: 1) Someone with a good track record who won't like the boardroom's transfer policy. 2) Someone experienced who is purely mediocre. 3) Someone unproven or with limited experince, but with some potential. 1 and 2 will fail, at least option 3 gives the club a chance of having something to smile about. There are tons of better options that Gus Poyet for option 3. Don't you wonder why so many inside the game rate Poyet as an up and coming potential manager? Why he got interviewed for the West Ham job? Maybe they know something Joe Bloggs down the pub doesn't? Who are these people ? Wise ? Ramos ? That's two, Wise was his best mate and Ramos needed someone who spoke English and Spanish. It seems like his apparent reputation has been built on being multilingual, I'm not sure that sufficent to qualify him to be manager of Newcastle United Football Club. Who was that French bloke that came to England from managing some poxy club in Japan? Oh yes. Arsene Wenger. What the fuck were Arsenal Directors thinking?
  21. Can he speak English? I know half the dressing room is probably speaking Spanish these days but we still have the other half who don't.
  22. If Keegan came back tomorrow, he'd have my unreserved backing and admiration as before. He;s a great man, and no one should ever under-estimate what he's done for this club. That doesn't make him infallible however, but some people take exception when this is pointed out. More importantly he's gone and not coming back. We need to move on, I just hope the rabble rousers won't prevent future managers from coming here.

  24. I'm pretty sure if i'd seen Alisdair Darling dancing on a stage in the States surrounded by morons looking for 5 minutes of fame whilst Northern Rock collapsed i'd have every right to be pissed off and you would be too, no? Great post pete It strikes me that Ashley spends a lot of his time getting his jollies in while delegating the work to his minions. I don't particularly like Ashley, Jiminez or Wise but Ashley is the owner and the other two on the surface at least, look very capable in their jobs. The big cock up has been trying to fit Kevin Keegan into all this and in hindsight it was a bad choice considering the direction they wanted to go in.
  25. Because he is foreign and a friend of Dennis Shite? Guessing it's more likely that Big TRon thinks he is a promising coach already in posession of a good knowledge of the English game at all levels, who would fit into the current structure of the club well without any further upheaval. That said, I can't really speak for him. You might be right. Yes. I don't know much about Deschamps other than he bought Boumsong. Seems like a nice bloke.
