I think this is the real reason why a lot of fans don't like him. They want to see players who are going in hard for the tackles regardless of what else he does. Personally I think the modern game is more about closing down and you have to balance it with what else a player brings to the table. I think Willock is pretty good with the ball and he got us into some good positions in the first half with clever footwork and passing. That's not to say he's top class though, he clearly isn't, neither is Longstaff. But they're what we've got for now, and I thought both put in a great shift yesterday.

Have you considered that it might be because Howe is asking him to track back a lot more? It's been pretty noticeable that in the second half of last season we've been seeing Willock playing a lot deeper, sometimes defending in our own penalty area, he covers a hell of a lot of ground. In fact that is the problem, he's usually absolutely spent after 70 mins. We really needed to get him substituted by then, but Howe wanted him to stay on. Maybe because he didn't think we had an alternative who could cover that much ground.

Have had time to cool off after yesterday's heartbreak, but on reflection, I hope we learn from it that we must make at least one more addition to the squad. That weak bench cost us a point IMO, the players who came on weakened us visibly, and we needed a couple of very tired players to be replaced 20 mins earlier. Please don't sit on your laurels NUFC. We are close to a special season, but every other club is fighting for the same thing.

I can see he was tiring in the final third of the game, that much is true, but he was still running back and forward getting in position. making blocks. He gets a lot of criticism of what he does wrong, but that's ignoring how he shows good composure on the ball at times and works it into good possession taking the ball out of defence with a cool head. He's improving game on game for me.

The ball was pinballing in a tiny space he was just trying to clear it on instinct. Just bad luck really if you look at it rationally.

FWIW if that was against a team outside of the Hallowed Six I think that would have been 2-0 and game over. That disallowed goal was a joke. I'm sure there was another defender on the far side of the penalty area who was behind the line, but they focused only on the one challenging Isak - and even that looked level.
