Yeah, everyone talks about £200m like it's a king's ransom, but when it's spread over players it's not really that much. 7 or 8 players it's not really that much. £25m of it went on Wood in a desperate gamble to stay up.

Yes, he's just not going to have a noticeable impact as Dan Burn was - and is - still doing a great job.

    Alexander Isak

Will have to watch the re-run of this game on tv, he didn't seem to get the ball at his feet in the right areas to do much damage. At times you were left wondering if Wilson would have sniffed out more chances, but then you remember he was feeding off scraps as well.

Sobering to think that we have spent £200m plus in two windows, but we still have to rely on basically the same attack as our relegation fighters from last season, bar Isak. Just shows how bad our squad was.

Said it in the match thread, but all summer we were worrying about where the goals would come from, and that we desperately needed a quality RW and a striker. We got one, but with Almiron, Fraser and Willock still starting games when we have our first choice attack missing, we can see exactly why we were worried. That crazy run of form we hit in the second half of last season was always going to be hard to replicate, 7th looks pretty optimisitic now.
  6. Yep. He was in some really great positions today, basically could have been in on goal, albeit at an angle, even if you don't want to shoot, you should be able to find someone in the penalty area who can.
  7. Worst player on the pitch by some distance. On a day when we really needed some pace and aggression from Maxi to unlock a packed defence, instead we got this hobbit playing like he'd only had one breakfast.
  8. He got into great positions in behind their full back, but for some reason, instead of driving towards the goal, he often stopped and turned it back to a player behind him who was in a much less dangerous area. Absolutely bizarre.

    Joe Willock

I thought he played quite clever stuff tbh, few dummies, some nice little through passes to the put Miggy into the channels, but his shooting was terrible. I think he pisses people off because he's doesn't challenge for 50/50 balls with full conviction. Ultimately the same problem as the other forwards, not doing enough to impact games despite running around non-stop.
  10. Big Joe had a bit of a shocker today, wasn't on his game at all.
  11. He was, but he skied a couple of shots and that had the fans groaning. There were a few fans having a go at him around me, but while he did some nice stuff, like the other two, when it came to applying the final touch, he was found wanting. Some clever approach play though.
  12. All summer we were worried about where the goals would come from. This is why. Almiron, Fraser and Willock are just not up to it, they never looked like they believed they could score.
  13. That's the sort of finishing we are missing.
  14. He does a specific job reasonably well, collects the ball from the back, distributes well, and doesn't give the ball away much. His movement off the ball is still rubbish, but yes, he will be upgraded in the next year or so I would imagine.
  15. So did Potter and Howe, only difference is they weren't pie eating cunts who tried to stay in the league on percentage football instead of actually coaching.
  16. Nah, he's always struck me as exactly the type of bloke who would love Steve Bruce. The share similar football philosophies for a start.
  17. He won't but I can understand the reasoning. He's at least got the same aggressive attacking instincts, which I'm not sure either Willock or Miggy have. They have other qualities, but that's what we will be missing from ASM's absence.
  18. That would be a real shame if it was because of FFP concerns, so we didn't want to spend all in one window. I would have thought if the right player, of the right age becomes available, you make the deal. Then you don't have to buy the same player down the line. I still think we didn't go in for tactical reasons as much as anything else.
  19. @Flip Saw the opening few minutes of West Ham last night just to get a look at Paqueta, and he looked too skilful and clever, a real talent - I ended up switching channels because it was making me feel queasy seeing him in a claret and blue shirt. What I want to know is, would he really have worked with Bruno as a duo in English football? I just can't see it, both are fantastic footballers, but both look better offensively than defensively. Do you think this is the reason why we steered clear? I think if we'd signed Paqueta who we were originally watching, then we wouldn't have signed Bruno. It was one or the other for me.
  20. Him in the sitting role releases Bruno a bit more, that alone makes him really important.
  21. Would explain why we didn't push for the extra midfield signing.
  22. Not if he decides sitting on the bench for Euefa games isn't what he signed up for. He looks a bit pissed off already. Think we're well shot of him personally.

    Garang Kuol

Some mad bastard will be working on that as we speak.
  24. I like Potter, but I find it impossible to want any manager of Chelsea to do well. They bought their way to the top of the food chain with dodgy Russian billions. I don't have any objection to that in itself, but they and Man City are in a position of unfair advantage because they were allowed to do so, and teams who are in a position to follow suit have had the drawbridge pulled up.
  25. Shows exactly where our squad is weakest if we have to include a midfielder who is basically out injured for the rest of the year. We basically have no back up CM's.
