Bournemouth knocking it about really nicely tbf.
-
If they actually gave penalties for holding or grabbing shirts you'd soon see an end to it.
-
He's worth more than £20m, but given his injury record, and his contract running down, I think it's fair enough. He's never really produced what he's capable of consistently apart from one and a half seasons. Good deal for the buying club anyway, he'll probably start banging goals in again once he's moved down a rung.
-
We shouldn't have to sell him, that's the thing. He's still in his prime for at least 2-3 years, but because we have to trade our way to equity with the cartel clubs, he will be seen as a depreciating asset. This despite us having owners who could buy all the cartel clubs put together.
-
Because he's a depreciating asset probably. He's actually a good player, but with the financial constraints we are under, he will end up impacting us negatively when it comes to buying future stars. It's depressing having to think like this, but it's the reality. There again, if we can keep qualifying for CL year on year without buying, then we don't need new signings.
-
If the mentality was that different you wouldn't have the cartel clubs pulling the strings of the PL officials. We are on the way already to a closed shop. The fans stopped it last time, but the Americans are still buying up.
-
I always assumed Ryder got his job at the Chronicle through some connections back when it was still something of a closed shop. I literally can't remember a worthwhile article he's ever written. Luke Edwards has taken plenty of flak but at least he can write when he's not sniping back at people having a go at him.
-
No idea who he Sinclair is, but if they'll sell him for under half of that, then he's probably shite.
-
When you look at the success rate of strikers bought in this summer, it's not that surprising. Sesko and Gyokares are hardly tearing it up, and they were the most highly touted young strikers on the market. There's a £70m price ticket on just about any striker in Europe these days. At least with Osula you know he'll come in and cause some chaos. He's scored a couple of goals for us as well this season, one of them was pretty decent.
-
Don't rate him from what I've seen so far, but he's still a useful squad player. Hopefully there's better to come. I thought he'd be more of a goal threat when we were first in for him.
-
They're a spoiler team having the run of their lives. It's a good strategy for promoted teams but it will have a shelf life. I would expect each season to get worse from here, but tbh if they keep their manager and don't get ideas above themselves, they should be a decent survival team in the PL. Their ideal owner would be Mike Ashley.
-
Good. Even if he's had a rocky start to his NUFC career, he's a great bench option.
-
I think Elanga has the tools to be a £55m winger. I'm just not convinced he's got the character required at a club like Newcastle.
-
We'd be targetting them with a view to getting the best young talent I would imagine. We can't afford to buy off the shelf ready superstars because the cartel clubs will pay more.
-
Tbf, Jamie Reuben is part of the ownership, you would expect him to be more hands on. Or maybe he is and he's just not that good at it.
-
They did have a decent spell in the game where they were well on top tbf.
-
Thought Howe was quite positive on Osula, certainly doesn't seem keen to let him go permanently. Maybe a loan with a view to him coming back here was his suggestion. We were all whooping at getting £20m+ from Frankfurt, but where are you going to get a striker for that sort of money as a replacement? He's got his flaws for sure, but he's big, quick and a handful. Keep his registration unless we can use his cash to buy someone better at the right price IMO.
-
Yeah that's fair, every game seems to be a battle this season. Games are going to be a slog, I'm just surprised at few games we've managed to establish some control. I don't expect us to batter the weaker teams, but I would expect us to at least have most of the possession, even if we can't find a way through. Like City against Sunderland yesterday for example. That said, maybe our high intensity style doesn't lend itself well to that. Although you could argue we haven't really been that high intensity this season.
-
You will always get games where things go against you, but the complaints we have look disjointed or underperforming in general are understandable IMO. If we were playing well and getting bad luck I think most would recognise it. The number of good performances in the PL you could probably count on one hand. Other than that though, I agree the answer isn't to ditch the manager. He needs to be given time to turn things around. If he does, it could still turn out a very good season, and he's got a good record of doing it.
-
Both very young players, definitely bought for potential and sell on fee if needed rather than off the shelf ready.
-
I didn't really notice it during the game, but I heard someone mention that he wasn't really putting in much of a shift tracking back. I think in a Howe team that is unforgiveable. He had some good moments going forward, but he's not talented enough to be a luxury player by any means.
-
American owners like Boehly are always going to look for some type of return as the bottom line. Like most owners tbf. How much of their own money would they be prepared to risk in an attempt to win trophies? I'm sure he would LOVE to win trophies, but he will want to do it risking as little of his own money as possible.
-
Yeah that's what I mean. Why would he turn down Chelsea for more control at a club like Palace where his options will always be limited?
-
I think a man of his stature wants a bigger club at some point, and at bigger clubs you don't usually get more control. He'll have to compromise some of that if he wants the next step.
-
They did outplay us in the second half, but I've seen us beat them twice at home now, and given the squad they have, we seem to punch above our weight when we've played them during his time there. That said, I don't really know what to make of him as a manager. I think he tries to play the right way, but his results are often disappointing. Think it's a rash move to sack him though, a month ago they were flying.
