The full back should be overlapping Gordon, but this doesn't seem to happen much. Whereas with Barnes, Hall quite regularly goes outside, maybe because he knows Barnes will deliver the ball at the right time.

The first goal was just a slip, that could happen regardless of who he was up against. The second might not even be a legitimate penalty. There's no way to tell since they refused to show any other angle which could have cleared up whether DCL knocked Thiaw's arm. Thiaw did have a shaky game but there's not a defender on our books who hasn't had bad days.

That's why I would like to see him starting ahead of Gordon on the left tbh. Gordon is quicker, but Barnes seems to combine with Hall better. Not to mention he's a much better finisher.

I know Howe got criticised for keeping Big Joe on because he was important to defend set pieces, and I thought it was a lame excuse at the time. But yesterday he was winning so many important headers all over the pitch. I think we've missed Big Dan for the same reason. I don't think he's great at attacking headers, but defensively he's massive, whatever his failings might be as a ball playing defender.

We still haven't really clicked tbh, but three wins on the bounce will help. Also Howe's confidence in his Plan A should eventually trranslate on the pitch just through familiarity. Losing Isak meant a big adjustment and we are still working it out.
