Ferguson and Bougherra would for 6m would do me. Bougherra is quick and strong. He can play right back, centre half and centre mid and is very comfortable on the ball. Would be good for the squad. Ferguson is not ideal. But he's a good passer of the ball, combative, chips in with the odd goal and would lead well from midfield. Those who say he failed a Blackburn don't take into account that the manager who bought him left soon after, he had injury problems (I think Speedo broke his foot IIRC) and that Blackburn side were really poor. As far as I'm concerned, if we have Oba and Owen up front with Jonas and Zog on the wings, our centre midfield just needs to be able to pass the ball, break up play and put in a good shift. Ferguson is more than capable of doing that. His performances in Scotlands qualifying campaigns of the last few years and in the UEFA Cup last year prove that. If you added those two along with a quality left back and maybe someone capable of playing right back/ right wing, we'd be pretty much covered for the rest of the season. Then in the summer you can look at replacing Owen, Viduka and possibly Zog and Shay if they still want off.

Fuck me, the way you lot are going on you would think he wouldn't be a huge upgrade on Butt. Ferguson and Barton would be combative and have plenty of quality. Rangers won't sell him anyway, so its a pointless exercise. I'd certainly take him if the price was about £4m.

He's 26. How much better can he get exactly? As a centre half. A lot I would say. I thought he was 24 tbh, but Rio is 30. Has he not improved in the last 4 years? He was good enough for Man Utd and Leeds to pay £18m+ each before he was 26, so there's your answer. What's that got to do with how much he's improved over the last 4 years though? I got the impression the Captain was implying that he felt Ferdinand has massively improved in the last 4 years. I disagree, he was quality before then and the transfer fees reflect that. Just because he was class before 4 years back doesn't mean to say he hasn't improved since then though. You don't say. Of course he's steadily improved as a player over the years, that's to be expected of a regular England and Man Utd player. The fact is that he of immense quality and class before he was Bougherra's age, and has only got better since. It's a strange comparison because Bougherra hasn't had anything close to as good a reputation as Ferdinand had before he was 26. Ferdinand hasn't improve "a lot" in the last 4 years because he didn't need to. I can't see such an average player as Bougherra is making a massive leap in quality any time soon. Apologies for the confusion. I just used Ferdinand as a comparison as I'd previously stated Bougherra reminded me of him somewhat. My point was that players- certainly centre halfs can improve a lot after 26. Its mainly that bit of nous they need. Bougherra was superb at Sheff Wed. If he had been English and produced those performances he would have cost 10m. He was good for Charlton before they went down and then moved to a Champions League club. He's a good player who doesn't need to improve much to be a good Premier League player. Just needs that experience that will come with games in a top league.

West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll
captainhaircut replied to Pilko's topic in Football
The stick he's got in here is a joke really. The only time he's been poor was when he came on against Man City. He hasn't played for months at that point. You only have to look at Crouch to see that someone of that size can be a threat. All he has to do is win his headers and hold the ball up well and he's going to be difficult to defend against- especially when he's surrounded by pace. His goals at reserve level show he has the knack of scoring. He looks to have a canny left foot and can score with his head- something only a handful of strikers can do nowadays. Kinnear will be canny for his development as he's worked with plenty of target men in his time. I think he could be an asset to the squad if I'm honest. Mainly as an impact sub where his physicality can be used. -
Only person who thinks the ref did well on the pen?

Are you on another fuckin planet? Yes, play the advantage. But you still pull the play back to where the foul was. So a free kick 30 yards from goal and a booking would have been the correct decision. -

Bassong won't be suspended will he? Doesn't it have to be a week later or something like that to allow time for appeal? -
Sam Allardyce signs 3-year contract with Blackburn Rovers
captainhaircut replied to a topic in Football
Class. That twat is back in a job. I've been waiting for this for ages so he could take Alan Smith off our hands. I've never known a manager bum a player in the way he bummed Smith- imagine what it would have been like if he was good. -
Hope Blyth get fucked all over. Any local team willing to give that cunt Fenton a job don't deserve our support. What I wouldn't give to beat the shit out of that twat.

Jose Enrique out for at least three weeks with hamstring injury
captainhaircut replied to a topic in Football
Enrique is such a confidence player. My mate was shouting for him to be subbed after 20 mins and then, after his good run and shot, I told him that he's be good after that. In the second half, I thought he was superb. If JFK would show the same confidence in him that he has with Shola, he could be a really decent player. His defending is certainly solid. -
This is ridiculous. Shola was worth 3m in the summer on the back of a load of injury problems, no goals in 2 years and with one year on his contract. So if we were to give him a 2 year deal, he maintains his fitness and continues performing to the level he has been this season, how much would he be worth then? It would still be at least 3m and the new owner and manager can make the decision to move him on if they see fit. Harps is a good squad man, while it appears Butt had something written in to his contract that he would get another year if he played half our games. The first team needs strengthening all over. We can't afford to lose some of the squad players as we'd need to replace them as well as sign first teamers!

Lua Lua smashes two goals from midfield (are you reading Joe?)
captainhaircut replied to TRon's topic in Football
Lua Lua injured himself playing 5 a side with his mates. His tennis injury story is balls. I would imagine that it might be held against him for a while, -
I'm not really sure about this whole thing. It obviously started due to resemblance to Richard Reid. I think a few spurs fans on here have confirmed they heard it long before we chanted it. But I'm not sure the majority of our fans would know who Richard Reid is, so it would be tough to argue that point. However, if we were all racist twats we would be also signing 'Zaki, he's a got a bomb, you know' and would have sung 'Domi, he's a got a bomb, you know'. So I'm not sure the whole 'Islamaphobic' thing sticks either. I'm not even sure the majority of our supporters would even think that hard about a chant. Most likely explanation is that someone who knew about the Reid resemblance started the chant and then it caught on as Mido is the sort of twat people like to hate. I'm more than a little pissed off that Mido is crying about this. He more than likely never even heard the chanting but thought he would make a fuss about it when someone mentioned it to him. I find it embarrassing that he even thinks he can stand up for his religion in this manner. It's common knowledge that he was a party boy twat while at Ajax and that his religion meant very little to him. Still, since he's shit and everyone in Egypt is bored with him, it probably makes him look good to moan about being persecuted and play the martyr. Political correctness gone mad and the FA being fucking girls has led to a situation where arrests are being made for pretty much nothing. It will be interesting to see if any convictions stick, as it would set a dangerous precedent. What next, arrests for chanting that Posh takes it up the arse?

I'd be happy with that. Liability defensively but decent going forward and has decent delivery which is something we don't have. Aren't Everton short of money and forwards? Only one thing for it. Straight swap for Smith. Be surprised if Wigan want him by the way. I've always been really impressed with Figueroa.
-
I can see Bassong playing left back next week. JFK will want to combat them in the air and will bring in Taylor. Big shame really.
-
Source? Great news if true. Sherla normally does alright against them so I wouldn't have minded having him around for this one. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1090072/Ameobi-Duff-sidelined-Newcastle-clash-Middlesbrough.html?ITO=1490 Part of me thinks that the squad can't handle more injuries, but I'll just be glad to have them out of the first team. Annoying thing is that they'd both probably be ok as subs but JFK keeps picking them!
-
Why would you say that?! You've now messed up my entire theory behind why we'll stay up!
-
I keep telling myself that we need 20 points after 19 games. We would therefore have half the points we need after half the games. We couldn't possibly have as much turmoil in the second half of the season as the first and will hopefully have new/ fully fit players as well. So we need 7 points from the next six games. Stoke at home is a huge game.

Don't you mean the one where he stood behind a badly-organised wall and watched as Elano's shot tore past him, despite the fact that he had a full view of what Elano was going to do? Or even the Villa game where he was virtually a spectator when Carew & Co hit the side for 6 ?? Etc Etc.... I note that KK had Harper back between the sticks for all the crucial run-in games after that.... Is that the Villa game where we got beat FOUR one and Shay went off injured shortly after the second? And that would be the same injury that kepthim out of the subsequent games you refer to? Some fucking people.
