  1. That man is a true legend in every sense of the word. Could of been, shame he never realised his true potential Think you're being a bit harsh to be honest. He reached the top, for me.
  2. I realise I'm being a tad cynical, but I still stand by my point. He hides in these games, pops up with a moment of flair. His days when a youngster he was involved in the game a whole lot more.
  3. He's not the best admittedly, but I'm really struggling to think of that many that are better than him in terms of being a pure goalscorer. 2J threw the "never does it against the big teams" point at C. Ronaldo, I'd like to throw that at Owen. Have a think about it by the way, don't just denounce it as rubbish. He did win an FA Cup final pretty much on his own tbh, and that goal against Argentina in the WC in '98 was a massive game. Can't really remmeber how he played in most of his big games at Liverpool, but I've never seen him as a big game underachiever. That's about your whack, if you ask me. He was young and fearless against the Argies, and an unknown quantity. I could be wrong, but that's how I've always saw it. Always said he was an overrated player, not in one iota trying to be "controversial" or "clever". I thought the same as you Bluf, but Owen is a much better footballer than he's given credit for in my opinion. When we signed him for example, I didn't expect him to work as hard as he did, or show a level of control and awareness around him that he did. I was so used to seeing him for England where he stood hands on hips for the most part waiting for a Gerrard ball or for Sven to push the side higher up to close the gap between him and midfield that rarely came, I forgot how good a player he was. In his few games for us, he was often the best player in our team in my eyes, in short you could tell he was a class act above. Here, I'm only saying I think he's overrated. I think he's still a classy player, and people go on about his loyalty, but it doesn't matter with him, as he's a total professional and regardless of where his heart is he'll give 110% every time for any team that he's playing for. That is all that should matter. I, too, admit to being impressed with him when he signed for us, but I think everything needs to suit him, otherwise he goes missing. England proved this, but for whatever reason, the set up under Souness seemed to do get a lot out of him. That's why he's not one of the best for me, he can't fit into any team and do well it would need to be adapted for him. The best, for me, can.

  6. I think people forget about the hype around him when he was 18 and after THAT goal. It was mega, especially considering there was no Youtube and 24-7 blanket coverage. He along with beckham were England's poster boys, did anyone see the reception those two got in Asia during the 2002 World Cup? You'd think they were the biggest stars there. Also, when he was 18, he scored something like 18 goals for Liverpool in one season, become England's youngest scorer, and used to whizz past players as if they weren't there for both club and country. People talk about Messi's ability to get past players, to excite, no different to Owen at the same age. IMO we overrate foreign players a lot here in the UK, especially ones we probably haven't seen up close and personal live. I'd say it's the exact opposite and overrate our own something rotten. It's both. There's no denying the 'English man scores a stunning goal gets an applaud, Brazilian/Agentinian scores the exact same, we hear about it for weeks' saying is true. We just overrate full stop.

We're as bad for the Brits, as the media, thus then the people, overrate our own players something rotten. You've just mentioned the two prime suspects of the last decade. There's no average, good, brilliant anymore. It's just shite or world/top class.
  8. Agree with HTT on the Owen hype. Christ, he still lives off it to this day. People thought he was going to be 'it'. Maybe not the best player going, but certainly the best striker/goal scorer, not 'one of' the best, but thee best. (He's not one of the best either, for the record)
  9. We won't be getting Lahm, and most certainly wouldn't be for £7m.
  10. And the other post, quality.
  11. It is true, writers from the site will be going along to meet Mort.

  13. Surely thats reason enough for you to get the paypal link set up sooner rather than later though? Technically you dont even need a button to be displayed just pop the link in this thread and you're motoring...donatetastic tbh Why not combine the two ways of raising money? one have advertising within the forum, be they google ads or something else at the same time offer a membership which gives those that pay the forum without the adverts. That way those that are contributing are getting a better service for their money ie advert free forum and those that dont pay are still contributing by clicking on ads. It sure is a reason to get it up quickly, but we're... er... doing something just now.. That's a sound idea by the way, not sure if we'll do that, but good idea it is.
  14. We'd need to save for a while before we jumped onto a new server, like save at least six months worth of rent, so to speak. Which I imagine is going to take months. Something will need to be done, I wasn't dismissing it or owt, just no chance we'd have enough to pay for a new server before the season starts. Hilarious amounts for a pre-season friendly man. I've just got back in, surprised we were running at all.
  15. The Quest people are saying there is a link between this and them. According to BBC, just there.
  16. It's hardly going to be teams from Scotland or Wales, it's English teams, whether they're all Premiership sides, then who knows. I don't know, Rangers is a possibility Doubtful. David Murray's not a fool. Rangers were involved.
