Tactically got it right tonight I thought. It was the players performances to blame. 4-4-1-1 worked fairly well first half. Not so well first 15 mins of second so had the guts to go 4-4-2. Not his fault that the players couldn't keep the ball for any sustained period.
-
Throw in was woeful but if he'd got up a bust a gut he'd have probably been in roughly the area Vermaelen was in.
-
Presumably he thought we weren't in the game at 1-1. To be fair to Pardew he went 4-4-2 when we had our backs against the wall after 60 mins. Not sure what else he can do in that position. Like I've said before he can't force Cabaye to put his foot on the ball and pass it.
-
Absolutely criminal though when we've had our backs up against it for 45 mins. What is the RB doing in that position in injury time?

Would there really be that much bother at a place like the Emirates, even if you did do the occasional moan? Obviously it isn't America but surely it can't be that bad? You wouldn't get your ass kicked or anything, right? Just a bunch of banter? The way I see it is that it's better to be safe than sorry. The Emirates might be a bit laid back but I personally wouldn't risk doing anything against what's considered the norm there. Agreed. The danger I'd say is someone would get pissed off and report you to a steward who would then eject you from the ground for being in the home end rather than the away end.

Hadn't realised until I read the article on the Chronicle website that they'll be no home friendlies next year because of Olympics at SJP.

Paul Dummett has gone on loan for a month to Gateshead. Goes straight into the squad for tomorrow night's game.
-
They could do a lot worse than bringing their old reserve team manager, Brendan Rodgers, back.
-
I've given Ben Arfa a fair bit of stick so I think it's only fair to say I thought he had his best 45 minutes for us yesterday. If he can consistently perform like that then he deserves to be in the team.
-
I think they've made the wrong decision to sack him. He's not had a great season but I'd have given him until this time next year with a remit of completely overhauling the squad. As a lot of people have said Drogba, Essien, Lampard, Cole, Terry and Cech are shadows of the players they were four or so years ago. The only way they're going to go forward is if they clear out that lot as well as the deadwood (Torres, Kalou, Malouda). Regardless of the above it would be great for the Premier League if Mourinho came back in the summer.

Toby Alderweireld linked in the Sunday Sun.

Good analysis on FourFourTwo StatsZone about Tiote.
-
Can't see Cisse playing in this if he's got a knock and has to travel to South Africa for his Friendly this week.
-
Worth his own thread now? Sunday Sun backs up French press in saying he'll sign a three-year deal in the next few weeks.

You supported Souness, didn't you? Hated Souness. If we're here at the same time next year and not making progress I'll be unhappy. We've had good results and played some good football. In our 2nd season back in the Premier League I'd say things are going very well. Very easy to stick the boot in on Pardew after a tough month but he's doing a good job.

Again not defending the performance today but you've named three games out of 26 that you're not happy with - none of which we've lost. Hardly an indictment of a failing manager. I could name you 20 games where I have not been happy with our performance. As I've already said, the Wolves away game, was pretty much the same, we won of course and great, but for me, performances are the true indicator of what's happening or what's coming and if we do not change the way we play our football I'll tell you what is coming.... more of the same today and that's not good enough. I really think you're living in a different world if you think there's been 20 games where you've not been happy this season. With our performances. I didn't say results. I know. I still think that's absurd. We've not been tearing teams apart every week but there are a lot more than six occassions where I've been very happy with how we've played.

It's Ok saying drop them but who for? You can drop Simpson, put R.Taylor in and someone else on RW but who can play better than Jonas and Williamson on LW and CB?

As per usual we see massive overreactions on this forum. Yes, we were very poor today and got battered last week by Spurs but does that make Pardew a bad manager? No. The problem he's got is he's becoming a victim of his own success. He's doing very well with what is in reality a limited squad. Today was poor but I really don't think you can blame Pardew "100%" as some people have been saying. We got off to an absolute flyer and then the players who were on the pitch stopped playing football. Alan Pardew cannot put his foot on the ball and pass it to a Newcastle player like Cabaye, Tiote, Jonas etc. should have been doing. Also, to pick up some people's points: The substitutions and people saying why did he think they would work - The substitutions point is totally void because the 2nd goal completely changed the game they were coming into. The subs may have brought more control to the game but 30 seconds after they'd come on the game was a different one and we were chasing the game rather than trying to control it. We'll never know either way Too many defensive limitations on players - I think this is ridiculous. I think someone said HBA looked so concerned about marking that it affected how he played. Every player has a job defensively and if they can't do it then there's little point in playing them. All the best teams have attacking players who have defensive roles. If our players can't handle having defensive duties in addition to their attacking roles then they probably aren't very good players. I'd also just point out that the squad Pardew has to choose from isn't exactly reflective of the 6th place we currently occupy. Williamson and Simpson both definite starters and not good enough. No back-up RB, CB, LB or LW of any real quality. RW we have HBA who can't defend, Obertan who's been very poor and Ryan Taylor who's not a natural winger and is more defensive. In central midfield we have no real strength in depth either. Our backup Striker was Shola today which says it all. Like I said not a good few weeks but let's not go over the top on criticism and remember what a good job Pardew has done to get us to 6th after 26 games.
-
Pardew will take the stick but it's our midfielders who didn't show up.
-
Our best player today IMO.
-
Players just completely lost it after the 2nd goal. Cabaye and Tiote are supposed to run that midfield but were really poor.

If that's a comment on yesterday's performance then take a look at the side Everton put out and then look at ours. 4 of their side were on the bench for the Chelsea game and there are a couple of others who could be considered first team squad players. Whereas ours was genuine reserve/youth team most of whom are leaving at the end of the season.
