  1. For the price of Duff, he could have just about signed Lauren, Neill & Distin. All short term fixes. Lauren is 30/31 and will be out of gas in a 2 years. Neill would have cost £2.5m on top of his £60k-a-week wages. Then Distin is apparently not for sale and would cost about £4m to tempt City to sell. So that's £6.5m for 3 players who are in there very late 20's and early 30's. Plus as I've said before we've shown this season we are not deep enough on the left wing.
  2. Disgrace if he doesn't play for us before that date.

    Owen getting fitter

Can't wait to see him back. 8)
  4. Kazenga LuaLua is meant to be the best of them. Would expect to see him get a first team game before he is 17 and I wouldn't be surprised if he became our youngest ever first team player.
  5. And, the people behind the deal would know this how? I'm just saying, those people who say they are unhappy would they be unhappy if he had played half the games and been in top form. So which camp are you in? I'm glad we signed Owen, just monumental bad luck has seen him not play regularly. But I don't begrudge his signing in the first place for that reason. However much I'd like to. I think he was a good signing, just we have been unlucky. I think the price was acceptable and nobody would be moaning if he hadn't been injured. I've said it before from 4th down the rest of the league is a much of a muchness and with Owen fit we are easilt a top 6 team.

  7. Would have been more than happy with us spending £17m, if he had played more than half our games. The problem is he has hardly palyed for a year and a half.
  8. Reading between the lines so I could (and probobly am) be wrong but thinking back could Shepherd's commments last week telling Hall to sell up or pull together with us have been refering to him not giving any money spend. I mean after all Hall is the majority shareholder so he sould be the one digging into his pocket if we haven't got enough money.
  9. Your post is a joke. We've obviously shown we have so much depth on the left wing this year. Zog is our only natural good enough left winger, and he's been off form. O'Brien and Pattison both don't look much to rave about, Emre drifts too far inside and Milner is a right winger. As for your claim that Spurs bid £7m, it is false. There was paper talk of a bid and then Roeder said he wouldn't sell and there had NOT been a bid from Spurs and Spurs have not confirmed any interest.
  10. I really don't believe that Roeder would be so stupid. That kind of comment would inevitably backfire if he knew it wasn't true. This has Shepherd's fingerprints all over it. I don't expect the club to buy players, but I do expect honesty. don't think Shepherd has been honest to either fans or manager. Well I'll tell you what, IF Shepherd has lied to Roeder and told him there was plenty cash and has now pulled the rug out from under him, then the onus is on Roeder to either go public with it or walk out. Sorry, but no manager is going to stand for that and nor should they. So unless I see one of the above happening then I very much doubt that Shepherd lied to him. Lose out on a large wage and probably one of the few chances of top flight management he will get. Not to mention that such a move would inevitably let down the fans and the players in the long run. If I was in that situation, I would go public, and if Shepherd sacked me, I would then have a hefty pay cheque, and no-one would believe Shepherd again. However, I'm not sure roeder would do the same. As I say, it's rolling contract so there will be no hefty payout.
  11. I think we can still get 7th, all the teams from 4th downwards are much of a muchness and if we can get some form then we can definetly make a push.
  12. Because this is Freddy Shepherd were taliing about. Also looking at the list gives me great faith in Roeder as I rate every single one of those players. You rate Roeder for coming up with a list of unattainable transfer targets? Any clown on here can do that. The key is to come up with a list of people you can afford ffs. They would have been attainable had he had the funds he was led to believe he had.

To be honest Roeder is not gonna walk out or speak out even if that has happened to him. He's 51, has a family to support, obviously has some affection and won't be wanting to lose probobly his last shot at managing a big club. Walking out and speaking out are the same thing I'd imagine, either way you'll be leaving the club. Don't forget Roeder is on a rolling contract, all Fat fredd has to do is decide not to entend and Roeder will be gone.

  15. http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=35515.0 See that new thread, he has no transfer kitty. On top of that it sounds like Shepherd let him draw up his list of expensive players and then only at the start of January told him we had no money.
  16. Chronicle today says we have no money at all or very little. Thus we can't go out and sign players like Onyewu.
  17. You do realise that defender was Gavrancic and the deal broke down, so there will be no new signing in the next few hours. Gavrancic was a smokescreen.
  18. Link Glenn Roeder is trying to bring two new players into St James' Park - knowing that the clock is ticking away against him. The Newcastle United boss has targeted two players he hopes to bring in on loan before the transfer window slams shut next Wednesday night. I believe those players are both from abroad and that they are a striker and a defender, but I get the impression that Roeder is not as confident of adding to his squad today as he was yesterday. And the United boss must know deep down that he is paying a hefty price for the sins of his predecessors as, for the second January transfer window in succession, it appears that Newcastle United will not be buying a player. Roeder had drawn up a January shopping list which included Peter Crouch, Darren Bent, Ajax striker Ryan Babel and promising Championship youngsters Giles Barnes at Derby County, Southampton's Gareth Bale and West Brom's Curtis Davies. But with no transfer kitty forthcoming, that list must have been crumpled up and thrown in the bin in his office. Indeed, I hear from the south coast that Roeder has been in touch with Southampton about Bale, who he rates as the best young left-back in the game. Contacts in Southampton tell me Roeder was prepared to buy Bale and then lend him back to Southampton for the rest of the season, but the United boss is not at the races. Instead I expect Martin Jol to do exactly that - sign the young Welsh international and then loan him back to Southampton until the start of next season. With the coffers empty at St James' Park, Roeder has had the difficult job of sorting out the wheat from the chaff in the loan market. There was talk today that United are vying with Manchester City for Utrecht left-back Edson Braafheid, but this is not correct. In fact, it was announced today that Braafheid has signed for FC Twente. Roeder travelled to Holland just before Christmas to watch Braafheid in action but decided not to follow up his initial interest. After Albert Luque's dream move to Villarreal has broken down there is talk that Racing Santander are now interested in taking the United striker back to Spain. But they don't have the money to think about signing Luque - even on loan. :'( Looks like Souness blew all the money.

  20. Don't like this at all. > Although his 4 linesman idea is a good one.
  21. Aye,you are completely right about the academy players. There seems to be alot of talented young boys out there The only thing that can develop is like someone said on the board,we can bring some young international talents here although it would be difficult as we all know Newcastle its not London, but you have to start from somewhere. Right now the only two academy boys who are black are Ameobi and Kazenga. If we bring more international players to the academy it will only going to be for the good of the academy.Look at Arsenal.Wenger can play in the Premiership with his academy kids and im sure that he will not get relegated O0 Frank Wiafe Danquah is also black. Plus I don't really think it matters how many black players we have, lol.
  22. Must say this current crop of academy players are looking rather impressive at the moment. Just look at the reserves last night - 15 year-old Donaldson started, so did 16 year-old Kazenga, 17 year-old Darren Lough and Alex Francis started in central defence, 16 year-old Mark Bertram started at RB, 17 year-old Cowan came on for Bernard and then 17 year-old Godsmark came on to score the equiliser. On top of all these kids playing for the reserves they managed to get a away draw against a team fielding much older players and with six players who have started for there first team. Think in a few years we will start seeing some of these kids come through.
  23. Brazilian season runs over our summer so Mascherano played for Corinthians this season.
  24. Not a bad result for our kids considering it was basically our U18 team v there reserves plus some of there first team.
  25. From what I've read atleast 3 or 4 of the papers say it is Oguchi Onyewu.
