  1. http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=35515.0 See that new thread, he has no transfer kitty. On top of that it sounds like Shepherd let him draw up his list of expensive players and then only at the start of January told him we had no money.
  2. Chronicle today says we have no money at all or very little. Thus we can't go out and sign players like Onyewu.
  3. You do realise that defender was Gavrancic and the deal broke down, so there will be no new signing in the next few hours. Gavrancic was a smokescreen.
  4. Link Glenn Roeder is trying to bring two new players into St James' Park - knowing that the clock is ticking away against him. The Newcastle United boss has targeted two players he hopes to bring in on loan before the transfer window slams shut next Wednesday night. I believe those players are both from abroad and that they are a striker and a defender, but I get the impression that Roeder is not as confident of adding to his squad today as he was yesterday. And the United boss must know deep down that he is paying a hefty price for the sins of his predecessors as, for the second January transfer window in succession, it appears that Newcastle United will not be buying a player. Roeder had drawn up a January shopping list which included Peter Crouch, Darren Bent, Ajax striker Ryan Babel and promising Championship youngsters Giles Barnes at Derby County, Southampton's Gareth Bale and West Brom's Curtis Davies. But with no transfer kitty forthcoming, that list must have been crumpled up and thrown in the bin in his office. Indeed, I hear from the south coast that Roeder has been in touch with Southampton about Bale, who he rates as the best young left-back in the game. Contacts in Southampton tell me Roeder was prepared to buy Bale and then lend him back to Southampton for the rest of the season, but the United boss is not at the races. Instead I expect Martin Jol to do exactly that - sign the young Welsh international and then loan him back to Southampton until the start of next season. With the coffers empty at St James' Park, Roeder has had the difficult job of sorting out the wheat from the chaff in the loan market. There was talk today that United are vying with Manchester City for Utrecht left-back Edson Braafheid, but this is not correct. In fact, it was announced today that Braafheid has signed for FC Twente. Roeder travelled to Holland just before Christmas to watch Braafheid in action but decided not to follow up his initial interest. After Albert Luque's dream move to Villarreal has broken down there is talk that Racing Santander are now interested in taking the United striker back to Spain. But they don't have the money to think about signing Luque - even on loan. :'( Looks like Souness blew all the money.

  6. Don't like this at all. > Although his 4 linesman idea is a good one.
  7. Aye,you are completely right about the academy players. There seems to be alot of talented young boys out there The only thing that can develop is like someone said on the board,we can bring some young international talents here although it would be difficult as we all know Newcastle its not London, but you have to start from somewhere. Right now the only two academy boys who are black are Ameobi and Kazenga. If we bring more international players to the academy it will only going to be for the good of the academy.Look at Arsenal.Wenger can play in the Premiership with his academy kids and im sure that he will not get relegated O0 Frank Wiafe Danquah is also black. Plus I don't really think it matters how many black players we have, lol.
  8. Must say this current crop of academy players are looking rather impressive at the moment. Just look at the reserves last night - 15 year-old Donaldson started, so did 16 year-old Kazenga, 17 year-old Darren Lough and Alex Francis started in central defence, 16 year-old Mark Bertram started at RB, 17 year-old Cowan came on for Bernard and then 17 year-old Godsmark came on to score the equiliser. On top of all these kids playing for the reserves they managed to get a away draw against a team fielding much older players and with six players who have started for there first team. Think in a few years we will start seeing some of these kids come through.
  9. Brazilian season runs over our summer so Mascherano played for Corinthians this season.
  10. Not a bad result for our kids considering it was basically our U18 team v there reserves plus some of there first team.
  11. From what I've read atleast 3 or 4 of the papers say it is Oguchi Onyewu.
  12. Errr, Joe Harvey?? Being 17 and only really having a very basic knowledge of NUFC history pre-1990 I have no idea who Joe Harvey is.
  13. So he was better ten years before, and there had been another manager less than five years before him who was better. That would kind of contradict the idea of him being a legendary Newcastle manager. He was better ten years before compared to what he was at the end. By the end of his reign I think it's well documented he had lost control of some of the more unruly players and was starting to show his age. Had he been 50 whe his reign at Newcastle started I truly think he'd still be manager now.

    Mido

Nah. Don't think he would be good for more than a year.
  15. Legendary Newcastle manager for me. I'd say he's the 2nd best manager we have ever had after Keegan and if he had been 10 years younger when he joined us I truly believe he would have been the best ever.
  16. Hopefully he'll be able to play against Villa.
  17. Don't think he would want to come back after his experience last time.
  18. Quality just isn't there in the Championship and prices are going sky high there as well, for instance Preston rejected £6m for Nugent. Also why would we sign Giles Barnes in this window when we have 2 right wingers already.
  19. People natter on about Luque being given a chance, well take this into account. From out 24 league games this season Duff has started 12 and in just 7 of them has played in his prefered left wing position, also in 2 or 3 of those 7 we were only playing one striker, thus limits the teams attacking ability. I wouldn't exactly say from that he has been given a fair chance.
  20. What are you smoking? Or am I about to get whoosh'd.
  21. No way. I'm confident he will come good in the next few months, just been unlucky so far. Also I don't think we are that strong on the left wing anymore. Zog has been off form, Pattison has looked shit, so has Luque, O'Brien doesn't look anything special, Emre gives very poor cover to his left back and drifts inside too much and Milner is decent on the left but restricted by the fact that Nobby can't play 90 mins on the right wing anymore. Also selling players is really gonna help our stength in depth. :
  22. Lucas Neill is a right back and Anton Ferdinand is centre back. That should answer your question.
  23. I bet there were a few people saying imagine what Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole and Aaron Lennon will be like in 3 years time.
  24. Let's be honest who has actually watched him for a full 90 mins more than once? I have watched him several times and he is a VERY good player, even better when you consider he is only 17. Going forward I don't think there is a better left back in the championship and I'd say he is better going forward than several Premiership left backs. Defensively I will admit he is not the complete package, however I would say he is easily better defensively than Huntington or Edgar. Not to mention his free kicks are absolutely sensational. He looks to me like he could easily cope with the Premiership and he is only 17, just imagine what he could be like in 3 years time.
