I think that possibility is just as intriguing and exciting as the Shearer appointment itself. I'd be chuffed to bits if we had another investor, it would have to keep DL and Fat Ash somewhat in line. More likely the main reason is that Ashley has realised how much he will lose if we go down and that he will have to sell for peanuts if he is to get anything back. Pleading with "our only hope" to take over is probably the only option for an owner who hasn't a clue about football or the running of a club. Plus of course, if the reported £1.8m to be earned if Shearer keeps us up is to be believed, then there would probably be no need to have any other investor involved to persuade Al. Can you turn down that potential income for 8 weeks work even if you are a rich man? I wouldn't! Thats the more likely scenario imho in your first paragraph and maybe just maybe Ashley has seen the light and realised what a fook up he has made but the cynical side of me keeps thinking season ticket renewals.
  2. That is a very good point and i must say great appointment if it is for the long term but Ashley needs to change how he intends to run the club in the transfer market etc if we are going to compete at the highest level and surely if big Al stays that will be the case .
  3. Its more than likely there are mongs on this forum who have taken notice and not turned up lol
  4. Thats just had me in cannot believe it can you as they just slip back into depression. Whoever says Shearer wont work cos of lack experience etc just remember keegan ,big risk but hey what we got to lose maybe this is Ashley changing or the cynic in me says Season ticket time but big Als no mug he will tell Ashley what he wants if he decides to stay on and build for the future ,Ashleys current model on transfers etc imho will not work unless you have a Wenger style manager who can nuture raw talent which i believe Ashley is trying to introduce but it can go horribly wrong wthout experience around them .
  5. The golden boys for me Lee,Speed ,and who ever else wants to join the party :smitten:

Well well well looks like the brown nosing has worked for the little monkey and i rest my case he had his own agenda for supporting Ashley and fair play to him but i think in private he will be devasted with what has happened to his former club but i have lost respect for him now. Toon legend is back to coach the kids Published Date: 27 March 2009 E-mail Miles Starforth NEWCASTLE United legend Peter Beardsley has been handed a role coaching the next generation of strikers at St James's Park. Beardsley – who has been working at St James's Park in an ambassadorial and PR role – has returned to the training field at the club's Academy. The 48-year-old has been keen to get back into coaching for some time, and Academy director Richard Money has found a role for him working with the forwards. Beardsley – who scored well over 100 goals for Newcastle in his two spells at the club – will help Money and his staff hone the skills of the likes of Nile Ranger and Wesley Ngo Baheng. Money believes the former England international has a lot to offer the club's rising stars. "Peter's a Newcastle United legend, and was an absolutely top player, so it makes perfect sense to have him working with our young strikers," said Beardsley. "He has so much knowledge of the game that he can pass on to the young lads, and they will benefit enormously from working with him and listening to what he tells them." Ranger is one of the hottest properties in Academy football, with the 17-year-old having struck 22 goals for United's Under-18s and reserve teams this season. And Money is convinced the Londoner – who made his England Under-19s debut this week – can benefit from Beardsley's experience. Ranger came on as a half-time substitute for England against the Czech Republic, and came agonisingly close to winning the game when his shot hit the post with five minutes left. He said: "It would have been great had it gone in, but sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. "I'd never played for England at any level before, and didn't expect this, so it's the icing on the cake in a great first season for me at Newcastle."
  10. I'm saying that along with the Police they should accept some of the responsibility. How can you come out with a comment like that when you were not there and never experienced it ffs,In the 80,s when the toon played at hillsborough on a saturday in the late summer when it was boiling hot and the match ended every toon fan headed for the exits into a paddock area behind the stand and i guess i was about 16 at the time but they kept the gates for the exits locked but the police and stewards did absolutley nothing to help and there were literally thousands all crushing together waiting to get out and kids and a police woman had to be helped on to a low roof on a building on a outer wall to avoid injury , i will never forget that day as i was lifted off my feet in a wave of pushing and panic until the gates were opened . So dont come on here making throw away comments about something you know f*** all about Errr, because I did come out with the comment? How does that answer your question? Do you want me to embarrass you by asking you how you can lay all the blame on the Police when you were not there and never experienced it ffs? It's an obvious response to your post. It's probably difficult after a couple of cans, but I suggest you keep your insults to yourself if you want to have any credibility. You have pretty much made yourself look like a tit in this thread and its best you stay away from a keyboard for a while instead of embarrassing yourself further .

If Beardsley is so positive about our future i wonder why Shay Given wanted out cos he certainly didnt feel the club was going in the right direction and i bet Bassong will be away in the summer .

Here is The Journals piece Toon hero Beardsley backs the Newcastle board Mar 19 2009 by Mark Douglas, The Journal * 1 * 2 * next » MIKE Ashley has found credible allies wishing to put their head above the parapet and speak out in his favour hard to come by in recent months. But former Newcastle hero Peter Beardsley makes no apologies for backing the board. IF the voice is reassuringly familiar to Newcastle United supporters, the message is most certainly not. Peter Andrew Beardsley, who crossed the line for his home-town club on nearly 300 occasions and contributed 108 goals to the cause over two spells at St James’s Park, believes the club is moving in the right direction on Mike Ashley’s watch. And he retains the belief that if Newcastle do survive these fraught final weeks of the season with their Premier League status intact, they will never again battle relegation with Ashley’s hand at the tiller. It is strong and unashamedly positive stuff from Beardsley, who has consistently argued that Ashley should be given another chance to prove himself, despite the mistakes that have occurred since he bought the club in May of 2007. While it will not strike a chord with the disaffected masses of St James’s Park, Beardsley’s opinions at least provide a cogent counter-argument to the notion that Ashley and the rest of the board are sending United to hell in a handcart. Beardsley, after all, remains a prominent and admired figure at United. As well as his service on the pitch, his work in the community for local charities assures him the respect of Newcastle’s support. Loyal to the club to a tee, he simply cannot envisage relegation despite the current perilous position. The looming games against Arsenal, who have recovered their form and composure since a mid-season slump, and Chelsea – who have done likewise – have been viewed with dread by those disappointed by the performance against Hull. But Beardsley sees opportunity in those fixtures – especially now Michael Owen is approaching full fitness. [glow=red,2,300]“I don’t think they’re in as bad a state as everybody says. [/glow]I’m biased because its my team,” he said. “When you look at it, we probably have to win three games, and I think they’re more than capable of doing that. “We’ve always done okay against Arsenal and Chelsea at home in the past and, with all due respect to Stoke, we’d expect to go there and get at least a point. “It’s not ideal at the moment but I’ve said before and I’ll say it again – Mike has not come here to fail. “He’s come here to succeed; to improve the club. “It hasn’t been ideal for him, he’s taken a lot of stick – unfairly in my opinion – but a lot of the fans I speak to now feel sorry for him. Because he came in with the right intentions, it didn’t work out, but I think the fans realise that with people like Dennis Wise and Derek Llambias, the club is in good hands and there are reasons to be optimistic about the future. It may not be a message that chimes with all supporters – but Beardsley is unapologetic. Most of the high-profile figures who have stuck up for Ashley, Llambias and Wise have been accused of betraying the club and its roots by the increasingly mutinous cyber community and swathes of supporters who believe United have moved backwards under Ashley’s leadership. The list of those willing to throw their weight behind Ashley in public is a small band, to be fair, but the likes of Joe Kinnear have done it – and provoked the venom of fans for their troubles. The difference here is that Beardsley’s outstanding service to Newcastle gives his message instant credibility, and makes him harder to file under the category of ‘willing stooge’. After all, there are few who have worn black-and-white with such distinction or pride over the last three decades, and his loyalty to the club and its supporters cannot be discounted – even if his support for Ashley grates. It is worth mitigating Beardsley’s message by acknowledging that he remains actively involved with the club on both a professional and personal basis. Beardsley, after all, has coached in Newcastle’s Academy recently and holds an ambassadorial role which involves work in the community on the club’s behalf. However, that involvement pre-dates the Ashley era, and Beardsley insists it is an honestly-held opinion that is informed by talking to the key players in a boardroom still largely mistrusted by fans. “I am entitled to my opinion,” he said. “The fans know where I’m coming from – they know this has been my club all of my life. “If in five to 10 years’ time Mike Ashley’s not here, I will still be a Newcastle fan. I’m lucky, I’ve had conversations with Mike Ashley, so I know how positive he is towards the future. [glow=red,2,300]“I’ve also had conversations with Derek Lambias, Dennis Wise and Richard Money, and the club has a positive future.[/glow] [glow=red,2,300]“We all know it hinges on the first team being successful – but if they survive, I don’t see us being in a relegation battle ever again. [/glow] “While Mike Ashley is at the club, I don’t see us ever being in this situation again. Circumstances have put us in this position – injuries to key players like Martins, Owen and Viduka have had a massive impact. “That would decimate any team – just look how Arsenal struggled this season without their top players.”

    Peter Beardsley

If you read my post from yesterday you will understand that a interview with Beardsley has been posted in the Times and The journal so no it is a thread that i started originally and thought it was worth adding too instead of creating a new one and its great to hear someone with the same opinion as me on this even though i am being ridiculed for it when Beardsley seems to be untouchable on here even though no newcastle player has given me more pleasure watching .

Here is a new interview from Peter and i still stick by with what i said when i started this thread and tbh nothing has convinced me that Beardsley has only self preservation as his main interest and what the fuck have Ashley and wise done for the first team to convince him to spout off this shit is beyond me ,i used to respect him and now i dont and i could not give a flying fuck what anyone on this forum thinks about this because my club is dying a horrible death and i fookin care while others bury there heads up there own arses . http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/newcastle/article5934612.ece
  22. Havent played footy for about 13 years so god knows how long i will last but training now and hopefully wont make a complete tit of myself.
  23. Been said already probably but if Hull and Stoke beat us i think its goodnight Vienna ,the players need to take the same commitment into this game as they did against Manure and we will get something but a repeat of the Bolton performance will show our management and players true colours.
  24. Very debatable iyam. I don't want to fall into the Owen vs Martins argument again, but you only have to look at our record without Oba to see that he's more influential on the pitch. He mightn't score as many goals, but in a 4-4-2, Owen's invisible unless he's poaching goals. In terms of adding to the team's play, i'd say Martins does more 'damage'. But as has been said, i'd rather just have em both in the side. In defence of Owen imho a midfield who can create openings would be a massive plus from open play.
