Wouldn't surprise me if he retired. In his mind he's too good to lower himself to play for Stoke etc and if he doesn't make the WC squad this year (which he won't) there's basically no chance what so ever for him to make it into the EC qualifying squads let alone the EC squad itself if England were to make it.
