  1. PS, for Kingdawson, a game that immediately springs to mind that you won't have seen, and surely must not have heard of - watch our 5-0 victory over Man United in October 96. This, for me, is just the game that immediately springs to mind. If you want to slate Shearer's link up play and his ability as a player - then watch this match. Because his triple of goals/assists in this game was one of his finests in a black and white shirt, for me. The first of the five - an assist. An absolutely superbly executed, looping header from a corner, rising above about three United defenders to knock it onto Peacock's path to prod it in. The second of the five - another assist. Andy Gray got it spot on; Stanley Matthews at his best couldn't produce a turn of pace and cross as well as Shearer's for this one. Magnificent cross under pressure, right onto Ferdinand's forehead. And the fourth of the five - an assist and a goal. The fourth goal is obviously over-shadowed in this game, simply due to the qualtiy of the others. But the mvoe for this goal was absolutely fantastic. A sprint down the left-wing and out of nowhere, Shearer stops, fooling the defender, and then sprays a long ball all the way to the other wing, for Beardsley to put a cross back in for Shearer to finish. THAT game was Shearer at his peak. Shearer was doing that week in week out. Dimitar Berbatov, a class player that he is nowadays, HASN'T GOT A FUCKING SCRATCH on the Shearer of those years. He got something like five hattricks in his last season at Blackburn n'all. And even in his early thirties, Shearer was still score 25/30 goals 'simply by using his upper body strength'. You utter, utter pleb.
  2. I wouldn't go as far as to say that, but if he clicks with one of Martins or Owen (or both depending on how Sam lines us up), then we could potentially have a 30-goal+ partnership on our hands.
  3. You can't say these forums are boring. @ this thread/Kingdawson.
  4. I'm a Derby fan like you, but with the defense and general team they've got at the moment, and they players they've signed so far (and the players that have departed) they haven't got a cat in hell's chance.
  5. Doubt Bridge would be that much. We'd tempt them with a £5m bid. Beye might be a bit more than that.
  6. Got more chance of signing Bridge than we have Heinze, imo. Heinze will go to someone like Madrid. Plus, i'm inclined to believe Mr Whatever, over on Skunkers.
  7. Heinze is a good shout but considering his potential other suitors, we might have to go above the £5m mark (plus huge wages) to bring him in, which just isn't worth it for someone at his age and with his recent injury trouble. We could get Bridge for less, and i'd consider that a top, top signing. If we were to sign Bridge - that'd be the signing of the summer for us, regardless of who else we might bring in. Still reckon we should punt for Campbell, test the water with a £3m bid or something. If Pompey ask for anything higher than £4m, then forget it. I know, it's still a lot of money for a 32-year-old, but he's got unadulterated quality, he's mean, and would bring on the Taylors and Rozehnals already at the club. Plus, considering he already is still playing so well, there's a chance he can enjoy some of his best years of his career here, given Sam's track record. And if we'd get Beye aswell, that'd be another option for centre-back, yet offering a more suitable right sided defender than Nobby or Geremi. Beye, Campbell and Bridge for around the £10m mark would be excellent business. Reserve these 'huger funds for massive signings' for January, when we can review the squad and see where we need to make this top signing... Those three signings would leave our defense offering these options: RB - Beye, Geremi, Solano, (Carr) CB - Campbell, Taylor, Rozehnal, Beye, Ramage LB - Bridge, Babayaro (Basically just repeating what i said in the 'who would you sign now' thread)
  8. Aye. Fowler will go to one of the newly-promoted teams i would have thought.
  9. If we wait and he comes back in superb condition then they will double or treble the asking price. That's the problem. A gentleman's agreement with the player won't be worth anything, because if he comes back fine and they want to keep him, he's hardly going to beg for a move to Newcastle. Big Sam obviously has faith he'll come back OK, or seems prepared to take that gamble, in the hope that we secure a good fit player for a bargain fee. But to do that we have to stump up the money now. If we wait until January we could turn our noses up at a crocked player or we could see his price shoot out of our reach. It's now or never IMO. Tough choice.
  10. And watch Allardyce and Shepherd be literally laughed to death.
  11. It's boring tbh. Fun watching them fail, but there's bairly a rivalry when they're such a nothing club.
  12. / Mark Viduka, Joey Barton, David Rozehnal, Geremi. = £8.7m / Gareth Bale, Darren Bent, Younes Kaboul = £34.5m
  13. I only chose Duff cos i said it was pointless choosing Carr or Ramage.
  14. I felt sick the day of that Aston Villa game. We'd gone something like nine games unbeaten. Can remember those two penalties you guys got awarded... Jesus Christ.
  15. Don't disagree. speaking of which, just gone and bidded on the 94/95 away kit on Ebay, IE, the best away kit we've ever had.
  16. That's fair enough. I think we'll shift thousand's of them, but there you go eh! We'll see. Do you buy the shirts btw, Midds? Think i can remember you saying something about non-uniform days.
  17. York City game against Burnley, i think - possibly Bury. Anyhow, heavy hail abandoned play, and all the players bent forward, putting their head between their legs, so as not to get pounded on the conk by the hail. Wusses.
  18. Well yeah... but i'm just disagreeing with you saying it could do really well, cos i don't think it will. That's the point i'm making.
  19. Yup. And i'm susceptible to it as any, not afraid to admit. The constant change of strips ruin the heritage of historical football kits a bit for me, being a traditionalist. But when the new shirt comes out i have to have it. Just going back to Midds' point... We've had lots of kits which are totally different though...
  20. Providing people haven't already bought the home and away kit. If this kit was a stunner, and we had it guaranteed for two or three years, and it was guaranteed that we'd actually wear it (IE, it was an official away kit and not an alternate kit) - people would buy it. However, this is totally different. Even if it is a nice kit, i'm not going to bother with this, and i'm one of those who'll buy shirts willy-nilly. I've spent £110 on Newcastle shirts already this season, and i can imagine plenty others will have done aswell. It's blatant exploitation. We don't need this kit in any way shape or form. Just, if it takes a fiver to make, they're gonna squeeze atleast some profit out of it by releasing it. I said masses wouldn't buy it, but some people will. It'll do well in 10 or 12 years as a collectors item, no doubt. A la the Sheffield Wednesday green kit.
  21. Aye, probably. But if we get a right-back in Beye, aswell as an out-and-out centre-back, then it demotes Ramage to fifth choice. New CB, Taylor, Beye, Rozehnal, Ramage. Loving seeing Sam go for versatile players.
