Bloody Motson on Rooney's second goal yesterday. "One of the greatest FA Cup goals of all time." Yet if it was Benjani or Shaun Davies who'd scored...

It could be untrue, when you consider the source. But... Refusing to pay 2 and a half bob for an Argentinian international centre-back. Only Shepherd.

Really happy to see Chopra doing well. I think most of us expected him to blossom in a decent Championship outfit, and that's what he is doing. 17 goals so far, and we've only just reached half way - that really is a fantastic return, especially when you consider how much little first team action he really has had. I liked Chopra. I think he could have made it here personally and i was disappointed to see him go in a way, but i thought he was more of an attacking midfielder rather than a striker. I didn't believe that he had the physical ability nor the general predatory presence in the box to make it as a Premiership centre-forward. I saw him as a nippy winger or a creative centre-midfielder, simply with an eye for goal. Maybe i was wrong, considering the amount of goals he has scored against this season. But let's not forget, he's up against sub-standard defenders. I think he could have made it in the Premiership if he was to play week-in week-out, and i'm not just saying that - i thought it beforehand. However, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that it simply wasn't going to happen for him at Newcastle. After all, we only buy strikers. Except Shola. Would love to see him back playing regularly in the Premiership in a couple of years time. Preferably not with Cardiff, though.

Going on the initial criteria, IE - the player doesn't necassarily have to be a bad one - i think i'd go for Woodgate, actually. Woodgate was the one player who was going to sort out our defense, and when he played, that was evident. It was a fantastic signing at the time, and we got him for a very good price considering his obvious quality. It was tradgic what happened, or what didn't happen, to Woodgate at Newcastle. He could, and probably should, have been one of our greatest centre-backs. It was players like him that could have won us the title in the Bobby era.
-
Disgraceful. They should have to play Wisla.

How about you kiss my furry buttock.
-
Heinze is quite versatile actually. He'd be an absolutely brilliant signing in my opinion. Very good defender.
-
Hmm... i'd probably agree with Diawara. He's abnormally crap.
-
Viana, you've got a good argument tbh. It was a waste of money though i'd still argue it was a good spot by Sir Bob. Cort wasn't shite though. The injuries just ruined him. And you can't blame Bobby for the injuries, can you?
-
Well you're still fucking clueless then. Nice one for mentioning that 15 posts in btw.

Teams that people are putting up are a fucking joke. There have been millions of totally and utterly shit Premiership players that people are just too ignorant to include. I'm thinking with Winston Bogardes, the Michael Ricketts', the Jordi Cryuffs. Just off the top of my head, like. Bramble/Ramage/Carr are a bit shit but you're having a laugh if you think they're the worst the Premiership has ever seen. Did you ever see Laurent Charvet or Franck Dumas? :
-
Can't really include Cort and Viana in that list of shit players that he signed, cos Cort was ace when he played and Viana was just never suited to this league. Both were good identifications really and you could also say that about Bramble. The only thing he did wrong with Bramble was not sell him/give him a new contract. But Bassedas, aye. Shit. Bobby wasn't great in the transfer market and you can say that he spent an absolute shit load, but he a lot back in aswell. Which some people just choose to forget.
-
Id' have him here on loan because i think he's a good player... Pointless buying him when he'd be off within 6 months.
-
You're either three years old or just off your tits.

Nonsense. We were off down. I love Bobby Robson, absolutely love him and he's definitely a hero of mine. But that's only because i'm young and have only really followed Newcastle since 97/98 time, as this was the time when i properly understood football. Therefore, the only success we've ever had when i've followed the team, have been under Sir Bobby. The achievement he made was absolutely superb, no doubt about it, and he built a fantastic young squad and should never, ever have been sacked. No, he didn't win a trophy, but he would have done having built that squad. That squad wasn't young or good enough to win the UEFA Cup or the Premier League at that point, but give them two years more experience and guidance under a coach like Bobby, they might well have done. Tradgic that he left when he did, really. He was a really good Newcastle manager, and although i loved him and thought his achievement was brilliant, he can't be regarded as 'legendary' given the fact that he didn't win even one trophy.

Mourinho really likes him, as do the Chelsea supporters. They're trying to get him out on loan in January, but he'll go nowhere permanently.
-
Good player. Great talent. Massive future. Replacing Makelele. He ain't going anywhere. Shame, though.
-
Certainly the calibre of player to keep them up. They're after Smertin aswell apparantely.

Any chance you can briefly translate the bulk of the article for us, Teyco?
-
Firstly, it's questionable whether or not we need him in all honesty - he can play upfront but he's a midfielder by trade. Secondly, he's unlikely to leave Fenerbahce - atleast that's what we have heard in the past, and even now from the topic starter. Thirdly - he's likely to cost a heck of a lot of money. And lastly, Roeder is supposedly after players with Premiership experience - something that Tuncay has none of.
-
See thread dedicated to said matter. Sorry, didn't see it. Thought this thread was about january transfers It is, of sorts. ;-)
-
LW/ST Left-wing? Didn't know he could play there... He's an attacking midfielder-come striker, absolutely. Do Fenerbahce even play with wingers? If i remember correctly it was a 4-2-2-2 type formation that they played against us? Not doubting you, Scy - i mean i could be completely wrong... just wondering.
-
Another intelligent and superbly reasoned post from Ohmelads. Agree wholeheartedly. Though, i'd probably prioritise a left-back over a centre-back. Everything else is spot on, though.
