wasn't expecting Kinnear to end up in Liverpool's scouting team.

If the club's progress hinges on selling Barnes then fine, but I'd hope we could cultivate funds without having to sell incredibly reliable goalscorers. I'm not against trading.

I agree, and I would add turning the academy into a national powerhouse into the list of things we need to do as well. Forcing clubs into becoming sustainable and being able to wipe their own face financially is objectively a good thing. Howeve, the issue undermining the whole thing - and will keep us hammering our keyboards - is the fact that the burdens are so uneven. "Just find hidden gems!" said Chelsea, after spending a gazillion on repairing the mess made from their last gazillion spent.

Accepting the notion that a club like us ("in our position") shouldn't have strength in depth because of the ridiculous rules which are designed to limit our capabilities. Having players of Barnes' quality in reserve is a brilliant thing and the sign of a very, very good squad that can go places. Outrageous that we shouldn't have that. Just get a RW as well. If it takes another PSR cycle to achieve it, or gambling on youth - so be it. Unfair, but if that's what we need to do. Don't undermine the squad by sacrificing quality in depth. I'd be gutted if Barnes went. I doubt he will.

Not to mention his enormous contribution to putting us there in the first place.

How does it feel to be gaslit...?

Dunno! Just taking the opportunity to be a div. Obviously am rooting for a play-off promotion for Gateshead.

Hadn't realised this... Bromley (h) Wolves (h) Bournemouth (h) Southampton (a) Fulham (h) Before Feb. No gimmies obviously and it's a busy schedule. But shit, that's a hell of an opportunity to really emphasise this push for the European places. You'd certainly wouldn't expect us to lose any one of them. Looking at that run I'd take a point at Spurs and any sort of useful results in the cups. Would be good to get some fresh blood in to keep cultivating that good feeling.

Enjoyed Dubs' performances but unless we think we can prevent there ever being a shot to his right hand side, Pope returns the moment he's available.
-
Would love to know how that strike compared to Martins' vs Spurs, speed-wise. Outrageous finish.
-
Hopefully you're right but Schär is a pretty big loss for me, like, particularly with Krafthy (and Lascelles) unavailable. The balance of the team is scuppered by having two lefties at CB. We really need to sign his understudy/replacement ASAP.

Re Sandro's effort off the post; I know it was perhaps a little fortunate the way the ball bounced off Gordon and fell for Tonali, but fucking hell, what a goal that would've been. We're amazing to watch when all our starboys are cooking and linking up. Isak; absolutely hilarious how he's capable of striking the ball with such unnecessary violence, as demonstrated by that disallowed goal, yet chooses to finish one-on-ones in the way he does. Just put it in (/through) the net!

Find myself very impressed with him every time I see him play. He honestly reminds me of Trippier when he first arrived, when you just had total confidence that he'd be in the right place out of possession and make the right decision with the ball. He looks like the complete full-back as he has a bit of everything. Loved the way he nonchalantly slid and kept that ball in in the second half.

The Schar thing is a pisser; he's always really good against Spurs. It's another massive opportunity. As was the case with tonight's game, there's a really strong case for us going there and dominating. They're absolutely all over the place whilst we're clicking at both ends. I would say "it's never that simple" but tonight deleted that cliche. Got to fancy it.

"Jarlinton." Pete Drury, Dec 2024

Hardly like it's a redemption, he's basically always been solid for us. On another level this season though.
-
The Sky coverage of Man Utd is absolutely vast relative to their quality and relevance. Obviously that's a lot down to Neville but crikey moses, feels like it's been Emo MUTV for years now.
-
Fantastic, that. When Isak and Tonali missed those big chances I was worried we'd be in for a very uncomfortable second half. As it happened, there was a hairy spell where we rode our luck (only a bit), but that was that. As easy as the game on paper suggested beforehand. Bruno motm followed by Hall but ultimately just a very dogged team performance.

I adore Bruno Guimaraes. He has been magnificent these last few games.

Been fuck all stoppages so we'll look forward to the 7 mins

I get the clamour for fresh legs but we have had it under control tbf. Time is right now.
