  1. At the very least, 3 Brazilians in the Portuguese line up (Pepe, Deco, Liedson) Ask what national anthem gives them a bigger emotion? You might get your answer of what nationality they are!
  2. if it were any of the other South Americans (other than the Argies/Brazil) then Paraguay.......very strong attack in Cardozo and Cabanas, solid defence and very decent midfield. They`re always very strong at qualifying but can`t seem to replicate that form in a tournament.
  3. didn't see the Fulham - CSKA game......but noticed CSKA had a player called Michel Platini in their squad
  4. I thought about Maric, was he pricey like? no, 3.5m
  5. Jose Enrique rules out signing for Sunderland JOSE Enrique insists he has no interest in a Tyne-Wear switch to Sunderland – or leaving Newcastle United for any other Premier League club. Enrique was the subject of fresh speculation over the weekend linking him with the Black Cats, who are looking to sign a left-back in the January transfer window. The Spanish defender has reaffirmed his commitment to United’s promotion campaign, however, insisting that a New Year move to the Stadium of Light holds absolutely no interest for him. The feeling over the summer was that Enrique, a former Spain Under-21 international, would be one of the first players to leave United following relegation but he has delivered the perfect response by knuckling down and delivered a string of impressively composed displays. The 23-year-old says he is settled in the city and is adamant that his focus is solely trained on getting the club into the top flight at the first time of asking. “I don’t care about Sunderland. Even if the newspapers said Chelsea, I wouldn’t care. I worry for my team – I love the city, I love the club and I don’t care about signing for another team. “I don’t read the papers because I don’t understand English that well! Some players were joking with me about what it said. I want to go back to the Premier League, that is true, but I want to go back to the Premier League with Newcastle. This is a big, big, big club in England and it is important that it gets back into the Premier League.” United supporters may have to get used to speculation linking their big hitters with moves elsewhere after an impressive start to life in the Championship. Indeed Enrique is not the only player attracting covetous glances from top-flight clubs, with Kevin Nolan and Alan Smith both wanted men after enjoying an upturn in form since relegation to the second tier. Fabricio Coloccini is another in the shop window after finally showing glimpses of the composure which made him an Argentina international. Enrique believes that the determination to right last season’s wrongs mean that none of United’s players will be tempted to leave when the January transfer window swings open. “I say all the time when people ask me ‘I love this club’,” he said. “It is normal that our players are linked with other clubs because we are playing well. “But I am happy here, I want to make up for the mistakes we made last season. I think when you are happy with the city and happy with the club, you would not want to leave. I know this summer all the papers are linking me and all the other players with all sorts of teams but I’m not interested. “From the first moment I’ve been here I wanted to play here and I never thought about going anywhere else.” In his third season at United, Enrique is enjoying a run of games unbroken by injury and believes that boss Chris Hughton can take much of the credit for coaxing the best out of him. Indeed the former Villarreal man rates Hughton as the best of the five managers he has played under since joining the club in the summer of 2007. “The manager has been very important. Chris has a big opportunity now and I think for me, he is the best manager that I have had in my three seasons at Newcastle,” he said. “He understands football and the players are happy to play for him. “It is the first time he has had the opportunity to do the job properly and he has proved he is a good manager. “He is the right man for Newcastle at the moment.”
  6. NEWCASTLE 3, SWANSEA 0. FABRICIO Coloccini insists he wasn’t left on the shelf in Newcastle’s summer fire sale. And the fed-up £8m defender hit back at claims that the only reason he is still at St James’s Park is because no-one else wants him. Coloccini, 27, boosted his outside hopes of a place in Argentina’s World Cup squad with a man-of-the- match display to seal a fifth straight Toon victory. The win keeps Chris Hughton’s Championship leaders two points clear of nearest challengers West Brom. Eyebrows were raised in the summer when the £60,000-a-week centre-back failed to join the £30m exodus of stars sold to slash Newcastle’s crippling wage bill after they crashed out of the Premier League. After making his 50th Newcastle appearance, Coloccini said: “I was annoyed because people were saying the only reason I wasn’t going anywhere in the summer was because there weren’t any offers. “That wasn’t true because the club and myself were getting a lot of offers.” Coloccini insists he owed it to the Toon Army not to join Michael Owen, Damien Duff, Oba Martins, Mark Viduka, Sebastien Bassong and Habib Beye in jumping ship. He added: “All I thought about over the summer was that I should stay and try to help us get back into the Premier League because the fans had been so good to me.”
  7. That's kind of a ridiculous statement, a lot of strikers in their early careers didn't set the world a light at the start of their careers, just look at van Nistelrooy, Drogba and Thierry Henry's records. When they were Niles age, they didnt look like 20 goal a season strikers but we all know what they become More nonsense, from the king of bad research. Henry was named French young footballer of the Year at 18 and won the Ligue 1 title a year later. Ye 6 goals in 30 games, showed everyone he was well on his way to becoming a 20 goal a season striker huh? What about Drogbas, van Nistelrooy? did everyone expect them to become so prolific when Niles age? Their record was pretty shocking. So what exactly is your objection Probably something to do with Henry being a wide players as well before Wenger used him as a striker. Anyone else remember Henry when he played against us for Monaco? He had the dreadlocks at the time and he tore us apart on the wings along with Ali Bernarbia pulling the strings in midfield. They had a canny team back then along with Barthez, Legwinski, Emmanuel Petit, Djetou and Sonny Anderson (and Dumas!). anyways, back on topic. I agree with what others said, in that he's probably more of a contributor than an out and out goalscorer. just needs that 1st goal t get things going and hopefully settle him a bit.
  8. Jonás Gutiérrez not phased by argy bargy http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/11/28/jon-s-guti-rrez-not-phased-by-argy-bargy-61634-25272735/

  10. 78....missed some obvious ones like....was too busy trying to think of notable players from the past than the present so forgot Van Persie and Torres Never thought Nicky Butt and Steve Watson would have been in there. Other ones in particular I missed but should have got were Hartson, di canio, Saha, Cantona, Merson, Ravanelli, Mcmanananananaman.
  11. if there was anyone i would sign in january, he would be top of the list Messi for me, but yes, would be a good signing. Colo gone then? maybe, he's on 75k a week, simply not worth it in this division don`t think he`d stand up to the physical rigours of the Championship tbh
  12. Why I won’t celebrate if Newcastle get promoted http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/columnists/simon-bird/Why-I-won-t-celebrate-if-Newcastle-get-promoted-article230315.html?
  13. Cleaners in Ireland have decided their Henry vacuum cleaners really suck - after Thierry Henry's handball ended the nation's World Cup dream. Angry workers can't bear to look at the smiley-faced machines. Some have painted out the word "Henry" while others have daubed over its cheerful face. A worker at an Irish government building in Dublin said last night: "Several cleaners say they're unhappy working with vacuum cleaners with the cheat's name written on them. "It's bizarre because the machines have nothing whatsoever to do with Thierry Henry. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2741496/Irish-snub-Henry-vacuum-cleaners.html#ixzz0XfwmmrR2

  18. I remember him when he was at Dortmund and in La Liga and he looked a very handy and creative player. Still only 28 and can play on the wing or just behind the striker. Surprised no other club has taken a chance on him. Looks exactly the same as Chopra http://img.skysports.com/09/06/218x298/raul-tamudo_2319887.jpg http://img.skysports.com/08/12/218x298/Michael-Chopra-Cardiff_1673733.jpg
  19. CELTIC captain Gary Caldwell has emerged as a January transfer target for Newcastle United. The Scotland international, who started his career at St James’ Park, has grown frustrated over the Parkhead club’s failure to offer him an acceptable new deal. And the Chronicle understands Toon boss Chris Hughton has the centre-back high on his shortlist of players. Caldwell has also told close friends and family he would be keen on a move back to Tyneside. And with the defender available on a free transfer from July 1, bringing the player to Newcastle would boil down only to agreeing personal terms. Hughton is keen to bolster his squad from a defensive point of view, with interest in free agent Sol Campbell and Sheffield United star Matthew Kilgallon already well known within in football circles. However, while the 27-year-old’s experience of playing Champions League football would be a clear asset to Newcastle, they will also have to fight off interest from a clutch of Premier League clubs. United also have competition from Middlesbrough, with Caldwell’s old boss Gordon Strachan in the hunt, and from West Brom. A source close to Caldwell told the Chronicle: “Gary has heard nothing about a new contract for a long time. “Naturally he’s considering his options as his contract expires at the end of the season and he is free to discuss a move in January with interested clubs. “He doesn’t need to be told how big Newcastle are after coming through the Academy during the Sir Bobby Robson era when the club were in the Champions League.”
  20. he`s been a shadow of himself compared to last season apparently (from what I read on another forum that is)...burn out from last season`s effort.
