Not completely unrelated, and quite indicative of the times at SJP..... I've just got my tickets for the Fulham game (gave up the ST this year, costing too much to travel). I rang up to buy two tickets, but claim one as free - I had taken advantage of the 'get a friend to sign up to the membership scheme, and you'll get a free ticket' offer. Expecting there to be the usual faffing and problems with computer systems to cheat me out of the freebie, I was actually told I could have BOTH tickets free. The tickets haven't gone on sale to the public yet, and this could potentially be our last home game in the Premiership for who knows how long. In fact, our survival could yet hinge on it. And they're already giving seats away. Am I being overly cynical in seeing this as a negative thing, and an ongoing worry for ticket and match-day revenue for the forseeable? I sound like a right ungrateful bastard, don't I?

I must admit, I was on edge during the whole show, praying that he wouldn't fuck up. He did fine - completely lucid, prone to rambling, but always funny with it and relatively sharp, considering. Thought he was a goner six months ago. Definitely displaying shoots of recovery. Hope it lasts.

Jail sentence was solely for the incident outside MacDonalds, suspended sentence for the Dabo incident. My understanding is that the FA action only related to the Dabo incident, because it occurred at the club. Can't help but think they only got involved because he didn't get a custodial for it.

Such a difficult question to answer, because opinions are so heavily dependent upon what we all see on the TV, which in turn is dependent upon 1) what back 4 is in front of the 'keeper; and 2) what the keeper does that we cannot see on the TV. One of the limbs of this thread maintains that Given is class because of the performances that he puts in despite what is in front of him. Fact is, having shite in front of a keeper often gives said keeper a platform to show off their shot-stopping skills. Over the last x years, Given has had ample opportunity to show off this part of his game. In this area, he is truly one of the game's best. Fact is, being a top class keeper involves so much more than this. Earlier in the thread, people have picked out errors that Jens Lehmann has made as meaning he is turd. Fact of the matter is, if Given had the organisational and communication skills of Lehmann, we'd concede far less goals. Given does all the 'Hollywood' stuff very well - it's the unrecognised, undervalued elements of a 'keeper's game where he's lacking. His kicking has improved though, from what I've seen this year. Reading through this thread has started me 'what-if-ing'....what if we had managed to sign Friedel under KK all those years ago, rather than his permit getting revoked? Could have been interesting....

It's about how you show that support, and in which forum, surely? As mentioned before, the gesture he made is usually used to refer to the 'wrongfully' convicted (or gang members who have gone to prison for 'the cause'). Inappropriate in the extreme, even more so when done in public.
