I still don't understand this thing about him not doing any attacking coaching. Seems bizarre. I know teams sometimes have a specialist defensive coach to work in isolation with the defenders but the manager is still responsible for overall play, positioning and formations.

Pardew isn't a shit manager or anything like it, that's a disgraceful thing to say to be honest given what he's done in his time here. He has his faults but so does every other manager in the league and the majority of them are backed with more cash than he is. Agree.

Think it's going to be a much tougher season for a miriad of reasons. Also teams are looking out for us now and have adjusted to our 'style'. We got away last year and nicked a fair few results without dominating in many games. I'd like to see a more settled ambitious formation even if it means we lose the odd game and play well because in time that will be more beneficial for all concerned.

Tiote tends to get a bit childish and self-centered in games. He is great at imposing himself on the other side but this is often undercut by his rash tackling. He has all the makings of a good player but he will never become consistently good till he cuts out the silly stuff, of which I see no signs. His overall mental state in games is questionable ie holding onto the ball in tight situations with players around him which again leads to dangerous situations for us. On his day he is great but when his mind isn't right he's a complete liability. Pardew needs to take him aside a bit more. Could be a very good DM (not a complete one as his passing isn't good enough) but does he want it enough? 25 yellows in 50 games is unprofessional whichever way you look at it.

He was shrugging off the chasing Colback (I think it was) then competed for a fifty-fifty immediately after the whistle went for the Colback offence - but it wasn't a red man. No way. Wasn't from behind, both feet didn't leave the ground, didn't lunge aggressively... his main offence was having the reputation of Cheick Tiote. Which is his fault.

Atkinson's getting overwhelmed here. Think Tiote was irritated at being held and just a little too high imo.

I wouldn't have him in our starting eleven. Roy has really bottled this team selection, instead of sticking with the players that played on Friday, he's gone for all the "safe" options. I'd have Cleverly in the middle instead of Gerrard, AOC to the left, Lennon right and Baines LB. Possibly Welbeck ahead of Defoe as well. That would have been better by a mile. Just turgid papp we have to watch with Eng. Nobody seems to have any spark.
