Probably because he's interesting for the journalists to write about. He's controversial on the pitch, off the pitch and speaks his mind when interviewed. Just don't see how a footballer giving an interview grinds your teeth so much. It's the old classic "if you don't like it, just don't read it". I just think he should keep his mouth shut. That's all. I understand why the journalists want to speak to him, but he has the choice whether to give them an interview. As long as he's not saying anything that would hurt the team, why does it matter? He'll not be a worse footballer for talking to a journalist for two minutes nor will he try any less hard on the pitch. I guess I can see how it's frustrating with Barton, as he's been talking a good game for a long time now, but for different reasons haven't been able to show it on the pitch, but I still fail to see why a positive interview would annoy you that much. Suppose we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this.

I'd love for us to sign N'Gog tbh. Not at that price mind, but I think he's criminally underrated by pretty much everyone (bar the Liverpool board apparently).

Can anyone see him being a success in England?
-
Happy for him. He scored a couple of goals under Shearer in the Premiership didn't he? Considering his progress last season, I don't see why he shouldn't be able to get a fair few this season. Howay big Andy!

Welbeck will be going out on loan or be sold, I'd believe, which leaves Rooney, Berbatov, Owen and Macheda (unless he's going/gone on loan). Would imagine Hernandez being in front of at least both Owen and Macheda in the pecking order, possibly Berbatov as well. The problem is that Man U would be daft not to play 4-2-3-1 IMO, which means he might not get much of a look in anyway.

Just the £9m taken off us so far for fuck-all except all these pathetic little soundbites. Can he not just shut the fuck up til he's played a few games? Why does it matter? Unless he gets injured on the way to or from the interview, it's not like he's going to be any better or worse for talking to a journalist. I'd rather he came out with positive stuff like this (about him and his team mates tbh), than something negative. In the end, all this is about is some journalist asking him if he thinks he's good enough for one day getting another England cap. His choices are either to go along with it and have a positive spin on the article, or he says no comment and the journo will dig up something about him and how his brother is in prison and bla bla bla.

Surely he'd be earning more at Spurs or Chelsea? He's pretty much guaranteed first team football at Liverpool as long as he's fit, as he'll only be competing with Ryan Babel for that position. Apparently not as far as the money goes - story is that he was offered 65K pw for 3 years at Spurs, 80K pw for 2 years at Arsenal and 90K pw for 4 years at Liverpool. Spurs have run a tight ship on wages for a while now, Liverpool...not so much. Agree that he's much more likely to start at Liverpool. Right, fair enough. I just thought Liverpool were skint and wouldn't offer that high wages. Still think he's made a good move career wise, and as it seems to be a good move money wise as well, I don't think anyone can blame him for going to Liverpool.

I see Gosling as more of a defensive box to box midfielder, similar to Guthrie. See your point in that it might be an idea to get a really deep lying holding midfielder. AIK, my team here in Sweden, has just gotten a new manager (Alex Miller, Scottish fellow who's been a coach at Liverpool under Houllier and Benitez if anyone cares) who seems to favour a 4-1-4-1 formation, and so far it's worked pretty well, so it's something I'd be open for us to try. Scharner would probably be a canny option for that defensive midfielder position.

I'm not really arsed either way tbh. I don't think he'd be on that much should we sign him, so another addition to the squad would have been decent, but hardly crucial. Any word on Taylor's injury btw? If he's out for long we might need another CB, if not we're pretty well covered in that area with Perch, Simpson and Kadar all being back ups to Colo, Williamson and Taylor.
-
Don't know much about him at all in all honesty, would probably be a decent signing, but do we really need another CM? Gosling, Guthrie, Nolan and Barton, with Vuckic hoping to get a game or two, I feel that that's good enough.

Sell Smith and should three out of Barton, Guthrie, Nolan and Vuckic be injured, just play with ten men. It's still better than playing Smith as we won't be giving away free kicks in dangerous positions and it will free up loads of wages.
-
Even though Gosling is out until say Christmas and if Barton gets injured in the first minute against Man U, I'd still hope to get of Smith. Much rather play Guthrie and Nolan and just have Vuckic as back up. That's how much I can't stand Alan Smith.
-
Agree, but then I remember that I thought he looked a canny player the few times I saw him last season, so I'm still pretty fucking happy about this signing. Hopefully we can finally offload Alan fucking Smith when this deal is done, even though he won't play until the later parts of the season.

When's the deadline for Everton to appeal?
-
Smith being labled as a defensive midfielder really is ridiculous isn't it? He does nothing of the sort, doesn't tackle effectively, doesn't screen the back four, doesn't pass well. He does sod all that a holding midfield player should do. Useless wanker. He's absolute wank as a DM. All he does is sit in front of the back four and throws himself recklessly into challenges and gives away stupid free kicks in dangerous positions. Fucking hate Smith tbh.

VUCKIC

He's better tbh

Routledge assist again, so incredibly effective.
