Agree. We have four competent wide players in Duff, Zog, Jonas and Geremi. Two of those should fill the wide positions, and the remaining midfield slots should be two from Butt, Guthrie and Barton if we are going 4-4-2. The other option is to drop Ameobi and go 4-5-1. That would have been a no-brainer normally, but I don't think our midfielders score enough goals to make it work. Can't believe I'm saying this but Ameobi is undroppable at the moment. His presence is needed.

Can anybody see Barton starting AND being given the captaincy? For a bit of a morale boost like.

Think he has been very dependable this season, regardless of where we have played him. I dont think he has the physicality or pace to be starting but he has awareness, experience and a brain thats more engaged than the majority of our team. Would have been great in his prime, should be no more than a squad player for us though imo. I've been worried that he may turn into a typical NUFC defender, a la Boumsong, but in fairness, today he was splendid.
