I think we're actually better than them. Take away their numerous spawny victories and they are very average. Also, we've been dealt a few harsh blows this season including: 1. Consistently terrible (biased? corrupt?) refereeing against us (Everton, Man City, Arsenal, and many more). 2. Dropping points in the last minute! 3. Injuries/suspensions to our key players (Carroll, Tiote, Willicini, Barfa etc) If lady luck moved from wearyside to Tyneside, I'm pretty sure we'd be out of sight of the unwashed. ok graeme

Andy Gray Sacked by Sky; Richard Keys resigns - join TalkSport
Dr Venkman replied to Anderson's topic in Football
The word is that Sky aren't interested in who leaked the clips, which says something. how many times am i going to have to post news of the world court case in this thread? -
they're ahead of us by a few points which would suggest they're better than us and i wouldnt argue too much with that, they dropped their arse twice when playing us though.

news of the world, court case Not to mention the bid to take full control over Sky. Hmmmm... ...you might be on to something here. seems as plain as day to me, especially considering the leaked footage. gray's stupid though, for saying those things in the first place and for thinking he could take on the notw and it wouldnt have re-percussions -

bring back trevor francis -
Why? Because he's a very talented football who can play in a position in which we are desperately lacking. No that i'm surprised, folk were turning their noses up at Berbatov in the summer. there's rampant short-termism going on with people evaluating players ability, all over the place. ireland's still a great player.

how much are 'we' expecting?

Fuck knows. He's no more innocent than Gray...imho. The only thing I can think of, is, Keys got caught the once and punished. Gray got caught twice. Dunno really *shrugs shoulders* he didnt start legal proceedings against NOTW? -
he did say he left marseille because he felt too much pressure to perform, perhaps hughton just told him to go out and play, probably one reason why i'd be more keen to play him up front that on the wing where he'd have defensive duties.

Europe: would you take, er, 5th place right now?
Dr Venkman replied to kirkwdavis2001's topic in Football
I doubt we'd buy enough. We'd need at least 4/5 quality incomings and no outgoings to compete on all fronts. Why not though? Who's said we aren't going to buy those 4/5 quality players? mike ashley? We got Ben Arfa, Tiote and Gosling this summer. Do you really find it unthinkable that we'd be able to get one more than last year if we got into Europe? depends on their contract situations i guess -

not the chelsea game argument again please. the fact that people have to keep resorting to ONE game where he stopped a full back from attacking (and even thats debatable) tells you all you need to know about routledge this season. -
I'd stop short of shitting the bed, but my socks would well and truly be remaining on my feet, that's for sure. i'd wake up with an extra pair of socks on

depends on your reasons to appoint said spiv. in this case i suspect those reasons were something like the opposite of parting with cash.

not aimed at you in particular mate but since you mentioned it. why is it that all of a sudden its deemed a good idea to sell your players when they're out of form? are we so ridiculously impatient these days that we cant wait for a player to get back in form again? i agree that 24m is a bit over the top, but i keep reading people saying stuff like this, dont get it. Spot on. Sunderland just lost their top scorer, record signing and probably best player. They didn't want him to leave. Yep, that's great for them that. Exactly. Not a great deal for them at all. Just like selling Carroll wouldn't be a good deal for us. my point was more about this 'out of form' nonsense to be fair. i've seen people say it about rooney and torres recently too.
