Cabaye doesn't have the trickery necessary to play in the advanced playmaker's role, imo. The final third is always the tightest area in the pitch and Cabaye needs his space, so Marveaux is comfortably the best player we have for that position. I'm still a bit unsure about Sissoko, wrt how he'll fit in with the other players.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but shoving him into the "Essien position" to pander to him was a mistake. Cheik wasn't always bad with the ball and we never, ever look as solid without him. Sissoko had been even worse on the ball in the last 3-4 games he played for us, easily. Doesn't mean we should drop him like a sack of bricks.

I think building him up to be "the next Essien", then tearing him down and telling him to keep to the basics was the reason for this mess in the first place. I think the best thing to do now is to rebuild his confidence over the pre-season by letting him do whatever is most comfortable for him.
