100 years of the PFA - every single league club's best ever player
Dr Spectrum replied to Dave's topic in Football
That's based on some book of statistics or something. They probably only the named the top 25 cos #26 is Ali Daei. As for Bert. Well he's a proper fucking 110% 24 carat legend - for City and in football as a whole - But I think most City fans who are much older than me will say Colin Bell was the best player ever to pull on the blue shirt. Most Citeh fans that i speak to agree with you about Colin Bell,he was a great player,i remember his career was cut short by injury-big loss to Citeh and England. And they also say that Frank Swift was far and away Citeh's best ever 'keeper. These are proper old Mancunians who live near me and drink in my local, they must be in their 70's. Ya, he got crocked bad by dirty rag hatchetman cunt Martin Buchan. Was 29 at the time tho so not that bad in terms of missing out (Nowt compared to Paul Lake, who I actually do remember, who got crocked at 21). As for England...he is the most capped City player ever but his England career wasn't owt to write home about - he was the player brought on for Bobby Charlton when we blew the lead against the West Germans in '70 and part of the team that couldn't beat Tomaszewski in 74... . Shit hot for City tho - I've seen the videos! They must be old to remember Frank Swift...he retired in '49! I dunno if he was better than Trautmann...we've had some class goalies down the years...them 2, Corrigan, Schmiechel, Andy Dibble... -

spudface His other moniker is "potato head" I'm sure someone I know once called him the elephant man His first game is against City on Saturday. Quote from Bruce about what he's expecting as a welcome. "The Elephant Man will be belted out no doubt.” http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article511747.ece He asks, so he shall recieve. Altho not as loudly as it could have been as theyve been asking people to prove theyre Wigan fans when theyve been ringing up for a ticket.

In completely unrelated news, I'd like to wish football agent Barry Silkman a happy 55th birthday. Sorry about being several months late Barry, been a bit hung over from Amdy Faye's 30th birthday party and been busy trying to find out what age Willie McKay is...so I can get the right birthday card for him... [/speculation]

Benny Benitez: Parky 6 Benny 2 (Benitez watch.). Inter sack the waiter.
Dr Spectrum replied to Parky's topic in Football
now that would be a shame I thought you'd be gutted Parky. He'll get the sack, Allardyce won't last much longer and Newcastle was one of the clubs mentioned (along with Bayern Munich and England) by Benitez' mate Guillem Ballague on Revista de la Liga last nite. :parky: I think he'd be alright here. mackems.gif At least you'd only have to suffer Alan Smith every other game. -

The notion that he should have left Newcastle before his contract expired is flawed...who TF was going to buy him? Stevie fucking Wonder? I'm still staggered that someone was willing to take him for nowt. No suprise said someone has got the boot. Well deserved!

Tbf, that lot's fans dont really care about the BBC. Hell, most of them can't even spell it.

I think thats exactly what they wanted to do. However Davies is too stubborn and believed that if they invested heavily in january he could keep them up. After the game the other day I think he said that if he got the money theyve earnt from this season and brought in 6 (....) new players they'll be alright. The board rightly thought he was mental and they've fallen out. Justifiable IMO. But a manager is always going to cry for more money, especially when receiving none, and are getting trounced each week. Problem is, is that the Derby squad isn't even good enough to be a Championship challenger next season, they are going to have to invest regardless. As long as the spending isn't stupid, then they could of gone down with a better prepared squad for next season. As it stands, to bring in a decent manager they are going to have to flash the cash anyway, that with the fact its just cost them £3m to sack Davies has to be the most stupid move of the season imo. It does across that way. So I can't believe that they have actively decided to sack him, no-one is that mental. There must have been a complete breakdown in relations between Davies and the board that left them with no choice but to sack him. And I believe that the transfer policy (Go mental to stay up vs sensible strengthing for next seasons promotion charge) is the root of it.

Btw how do you think Robbo or Dawson played today?? Robinson was excellent altho he wasn't overly stretched. I was shocked as too how much weight he has lost. IMO its pretty embarrasing for him, Jol, McClaren that he was able to carry so much around for so long without being called up on it. Ramos has him sorted in under a month. Dawson was alright. He looked a much better player without the awful Kaboul next to him tbf.
-
How much weight has Robinson lost? He loks like he's been eating nowt but air for the past month. Kaboul = Boumsong btw.

Phil doesn't really want it tho iirc. Kien englaise speaking either. I have a feeling Mourinho can be swayed. He'd take it under the right circumatances I reckon. And he wouldn't be appointed till after finishing with Portugal next summer. Send him an english teacher in the mean time. Or maybe Mourinho could be his translator.
-
Scolari. Already seen with Sven that being a good club manager does not mean you're a good international boss. Who is to say Capello or Mourinho would be any different. Lippi doesn't want the job and Klinsmann is fucking German. Foriegn is one thing, German is another. They're one of our biggest rivals, it would be the same as Taggart taking over City or Kevin Phillips signing for Newcastle. Not on. http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41607000/jpg/_41607594_liftcup300.jpg Got to be Big Phil. As proven as it gets. Can't have any fucking about after the last joker. Only hope the FA dont fuck up his appointment again by chasing him while he's still under contract with Portugual or leading the Papparazi to his doorstep.
-
then again he spent a wad of cash in the summer. also, and i admit to not having seen citeh more than just on tele but according to the press a few of their points have come from games where they haven't really performed. for citeh it may best be judged at the end of the season. We've rarely hit the heights we did against Newcastle in terms of creating bucketfulls of chances. That game was the best we've played. But in general we're looking after the ball and defending well. And its giving us a platform to be able to win games. And in most games we've capitalised. I know what you're saying in terms of judging at the end of the season cos theres no way we can expect to be able to win games consistently if we're relying on just nicking games or needing a goal of the month every week to do it - invariably there will come games we could win but couldnt hit a cows arse - such as the sitter Vassell missed on the telly at Portsmouth that would have had us above Manchester United right now - and they'll probably come along a lot more often as teams work us out more and more. Elano already gets 27 man markers in every game, its going to get harder and harder to win. But Sven's philosphy - signing good players, and getting them to keep possession of the ball - takes all the pressure of the defence, how well we do from that depends on just how good these players are and how many of them there are in the side. Its a simple idea and it doesn't take a great deal of time to implement. I also think its the best way of going about things, I've spent years banging my head against the wall as Richard Dunne humped it long to whatever shitbag was up front for us at the time when the week before seeing Chelsea or the Rags on the telly with the defenders just playing it simple into the feet of Scholes or some other cunt and creating bagfuls of chances. Allardyce has obviously had relative success at Bolton playing a different way - which as aside from being blatantly wrong, completely outdated, and easily countered - is also needlessly complicated in terms of needing certain players to work and being totally unsuitable for others. Its obviously failing spectacularly at the moment and I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Plain as day that he's not the right man IMO. He's taking you in completely the wrong direction - he basically needs to change his mindset completely to not only be sucessful but also earn a few brownie points with the crowd if it turns to shite. None of this no passsing no movement containment shite. And I don't think thats going to happen. Managers just dont change do they? Conclusion - Sack him. You can do better. I'm sure there must be someone out there who is actually as savvy as Sam thinks he is.

He's contender for fucking leprechaun of the season. Wig of the season. Celebration of the season. Grandma resurrection of the season. He's. erm. Interesting. Great fucking goal tho. Easily GotS if someone like Rooney or Gerrard scored it. And it came from a hoof. Yep. Frodo Hunt. Fuck knows what he was thinking of.

Only saw about 70 mins of your game (staggered to discover it finished 0-3 btw), but I was fully expecting Rozehnal to be getting absolutely crucified on here. Seems like Geremi is the brunt of the flak but I thought he was unimaginably awful. Allardyce blatantly doesn't have a clue btw, don't know how anyone can expect to do owt if they willingly surrender possession as readily as you are doing at the moment. How much effort on the training ground is going into your non existant movement compared to hoofing practice. Pitiful.

England Won't Be There...So Who Will You Be Supporting At Euro 2008 ?
Dr Spectrum replied to Jamie's topic in Football
Croatia. Theyre the only team going who have a City player in their side. Got players from Switzerland, Sweden and Greece going too but theyre not fixtures in our side and a couple of them might be gone by the time the tournament kicks off. Fall back on the Swiss if Croatia get knocked out I suppose. Not hopeful of backing a winner. -

Agree 100%, yet another overhyped premiership plodder Ya...he's never got over the operation he had last summer - When he had to have Kaka surgically removed from his back pocket. He's certainly a bit precious. But I don't think all is well between him and the owners. They probably expected more from him this season and aren't willing to trust Benitez to write out cheques of that magnitude on the basis of what they've seen in the past few months. -

Like we can talk. Certainly not, doesn't change the fact that it's a ridiculously high figure for that player. Disagree. I think he's tremendous. I'd be delighted if City usurped the deal as has been reported in some quarters. -
I remember last season when we were doing absolutely shite, Pearce took the U21 job. Some fucking nerve. Allardyce hasn't exactly hit the ground running so well done to him for doing what that twat Pearce couldn't and showing some pride in trying to get the job he's in working right before thinking of whats best for himself.
-
What a fucking shit press conference. Answering nowt. "That question's not for today". As if anyone will give two shits as to what he says tomorrow. The smirky twat.
-
I don't think he'd be as good as he is Arsenal. Not enough time on the training field. But he's someone who's philosphies on how to play the game would work well. Wouldn't see us repeatedly chucking the ball 50 yards down the pitch straight into the hands of the more accomplished opposition in the vain hope of building an attack via the top of Peter Crouch's head.
