  1. Is it time to resurrect this poll?? Edgar or Hutington?
  2. Results 1. James Milner - 22.2% 2 = . Steven Taylor - 14.8% 2 =. Nicky Butt - 14.8% Congratulations to 3 of them. Poll locked.
  3. Ok, I thought you really meant to buy Melchiot for 2m. PS 7m for Bent or 7m for Baines, I would definitely go for Bent.
  4. Is this the Melchiot you are talking?
  5. I would give him more time. Look at the time afforded to Evra.
  6. Squarefootball So why have Liverpool not lived up to the plaudits' early expectations? In my opinion it is not about tinkering or Gerrard on the right, after all these two policies have served well in the past, but 1. Erratic Reina. The sudden dip of form on Reina is unexpected. For a team playing high defensive line, or seeper keeper, the keeper's error would be even more pronounced. He is also not helped by the declining performance of Hyppia and Carragher. 2. Early season blue. For two seasons in a row Liverpool have done poorly in the beginning of the season. However this time the hangover seems to be longer. 3. Impotence of the forward. Bellamy, Kuyt, Crouch, Fowler. The latter two were never reliable, and Kuyt has done reasonably well. So who is at fault? Bellamy has been dissapointing so far, despite the recent surge of form. What are your opnions?
  7. Good. So care to explain why by mentioning Cantona I must love Man U? It was a bit of sensationalising lad christ. Good. I should have known that you are just another irresponsible poster in this board. But to say Cantona's finishing was as good as Shearer's as I've said is very short sighted due to the amount of difference between the goals both players scored during their careers. Andy Cole at us was sensational but his finishing didn't seem to be as good when he was at Man Yoo for whatever reason. How many year has Cantona had in Premiership, and how many years has Shearer had? And is Cantona out and out striker ala Cantona? One goal for me that proves the genius of Shearer's finishing has to be away at Chelsea in '96, absolutely brilliant finish. Cantona has had a lot more genius and classy goal than Shearer.
  8. Good. So care to explain why by mentioning Cantona I must love Man U?
  9. The way I read it was that although not prolific, his shooting was accurate which I agree. I can't remember Cantona wasting many chances that fell his way so in that sense, i.e. number of goals to shots, you could say he was prolific and maybe that's what Delima was getting at? Or maybe not Still don't agree with it either way as there's countless players you could have in there if you include the likes of Cantona. Past 10 years I'd have to say it would be the likes of Shearer, Ronaldo, Batistuta, Van Nistelrooy, Shevchenko & Romario (best finisher of all time after Gerd Muller). For goodness sake, what's wrong with praising a Manchester United player? Grow up please. When I wished Sunderland luck I was said to be a Mackem. When i wished Boro luck I am said to be a Smoggie. When I used the acronym EPL I am said to be a yank. Now I praise a Man U player I am a fifth column from Man U? Whether I have a penchant of Manchester United player, it doesn't affect my opinion that Cantona's all-round shootings are usually accurate. Thank you Knightrider. Also, obviously I am comparing Shearer to other premiership players. A comparison can only be meaningful when the obstacles they are facing are similar. In premiership it is a culture that defenders should not allow forwards to have space and time to shoot with ease. No point comparing players of other leagues to Shearer.
  10. Henry? Cantona? If you only counted in the box you have RVN, Andy Cole etc. Not that I am undermining Shearer's achievement.
  11. Men of the Match Poll Against Everton. You Can Choose Up To 3.
  12. Men of The Match Against Bolton 1. Kieron Dyer - 18.6% 2. Steven Taylor - 14.9% 3. Obafemi Martins - 13.1% Congratulations 3 of them. Well Done. Poll locked.
  13. Regardless if he is massively underrated or not, is him good enough to beat other keepers to get into your squad? Has your opinion been influenced by his sterling form this season? I mean, if you fancy Foster, Carson, Hahnemann or Kenny you can't look back at their history because htey are new to the league. But Jaaskelainen has been here for ages, if the poll is made last year would you have said the same? To me Jaaskelainen is a very good keeper but I think he is another Mark Schwarzer and Thomas Sorensen - unsung heroes or Mr Reliable for their teams; A patch of excellent form and suddenly all the plaudits come awake. Anyway, if Jaaskelainen's excellence continues for the rest of the season, he would be a very strong contender for the keeper of the year award.
  14. I woun't have Jens Lehman in my squad. Excellent commander of his box as he is, he cocks up quite frequetly and his shot stopping skills has deteriorated significantly. But every opinion is welcome
  15. Recently goalkeeper has been a popular talking point in NO. So I thought I would make this poll to see what the general consensus is like here. It is hard to compare players - shall we compare their current forms (Cech, Cudicini, Dudek, Sorensen, Harper, Given, Reina, Lehnman, Isaksson, Robinson wouldn't do well), or their overall reputation (Foster, Carson, Kuszczak, Harper, Isaksson, Kirkland wouldn't do well)? Or shall we compare a player at their peak (VDS, Schwarzer, Jaaskelainen wouldn't do well here)? So let's just say, which 3 premiership keepers would you have in your squad? I would fire away first. 1. Ben Foster - Excellent shot stopper, Mr Consistency, command his box reasonably well. Excellent ball distribution. 2. Petr Cech - Very good shot stopper, Mr Consistency, command his box excellently. Normal ball distribution. 3. Shay Given - Excellent shot stopper, Mr Consistency, command his box reasonably well. Poor distribution of balls. Special mentions to 4. Brad Friedel - Excellent shot stopper, Not so consistent (throughout his career), command his box okayly. Normal distribution of balls. 5. Thomas Sorensen - Very good shot stopper, Mr Consistency, command his box decently. Normal ball distribution. 6. Edwin Van Der Saar - Very good shot stopper, Mr Consistency, command his box quite well. Good ball distribution. I have always thought that premiership are very well blessed with very good keepers and after constructing this list my belief is only firmer. On second thought it seems like this season has not been kind to keepers. PS Andreas Isaksson is the Swedish keeper who is currently the understudy to Nicky Weaver. He came to Man City with a huge reputation but injuries and Weaver's form so far have hampered his career here. You mgiht recall his heroic performance in the world cup for Sweden against Germany. Would definitely love to see more of him.

    B-Team?

How about Kris Boyd? Would he do a job for us?

    Shay Given

How about Ben Foster? He has no obvious weakness, and he is good in everything. The next Peter Schmeichel. He should play between the sticks for England instead of Robinson. laugh.gif That you're serious is terrifying. blueconfused.gif blueconfused.gif I honestly don't know what you are laughin at. If you are laughing at me suggesting Foster is world class, or me having yet another obssession with a Man U player, then I can "understand" your laughing while still maintaining my own opinion. But why you are laughing at my "seriousness"? It's just an honest opinion and not that Toon Taylor was making a joke post prior to mine. Anyway, you are probably laughing even louder now. Regardless, Foster is currently the best English keeper.

    Pavel....Why?

Man U - VDS, Polish, Foster, Howard - All better than Pavel Arsenal - Lehnman, Basque, Poom. Last 2 at the same level as Pavel. Chelsea - Cech, Cudicini, Hilario, Swedish. Last 2 at the same level as Pavel. Liverpool - Reina, Carson, Dudek. Dudek same level with Pavel. Spurs - Robsinson. Same level as Pavel Villa - Sorensen, Taylor, Kiraly. Kiraly same level with Pavel Bolton - Finnish, Omani. Omani same level with Pavel West Ham - Green, Carroll. Carroll the same level with Pavel Charlton - Carson, ?? No comment. Watford - Foster, Lee All better than Pavel Fulham - Niemi, Crossley, someone. The someone is worse than Pavel Boro - Aussie, Jones, Turnbull. Turnbull is better than Pavel but Jones is not. Sheffield - Kenny, ?? No comment. Porstmouth - James, Kiely. All better than Pavel. Blackburn - Friedel, ?? No comment City - Weaer, Swiss. All better than Pavel Everton - Howard, Wright. All better than Pavel Reading - American. ?? No comment. Pavel isn't too bad as a 4th choice keeper. One has to remember tha at the point we brought in Pavel, keepers like Kiely and Crossley have already been taken up by Championship clubs. Pavel not only brought his keeper ability to us, he has brought smiles, passions and hopes to us as well. I bet players like Taylor and Ramage were pleased to see Pavel again and his influence in the dressing room should only be possitive. We lost to Bolton because we didn't play well. It is easy to blame the keeper but the first goal is Ramage's fault and the second goal Hutington's, not that I am trying to blame Ramage or Hutington for our defeat.

  20. Roeder did not bring young Rossi here to blood him. Roeder expected him to produce immediately and Rossi duly did so for us. Starred against Porstmouth and Charlton, did very well against Chelsea, tried hard to no avail against Sheffield. Rossi had contributed to our club, and who care whether he is young or old, a buy or a loanee!? He is here to buy us time and now January is just a few days away. If Carroll or Troisi are as good as Rossi shouldn't have come. But they are not. He is also free. Who else could have done much better than Rossi? The likes of Viduka etc will cost considerably in wages and they are not even playing well for their own clubs.
  21. So Butt did betterr than Parker? Parker is one of the better players for goodness sake. Stop the irrational Parker bashing.
  22. Reaching a general consensus on this forum on the men of the match against BOlton.
