Completely agree and, again, without wanting to cover old ground last summers recruitment killed him. I think he insisted on CL ready players BECAUSE of the lack of training time. Now, without CL, he'll be able to go for those players who are a tier below with very high ceilings imho. He'll then develop them which is one of his biggest strengths. When you sign 6 x established players, who you're going to want to rely upon as early as possible in the season it's less than ideal that only one of them has proven to be reliable and we're now in February. He's a massively switched on guy though. He'll have learnt from it. I genuinely believe he'll not make the same mistake again.

I genuinely cannot fathom anyone wanting him gone tbh. Without wanting to recover old ground theres tonnes of mitigation dating back from Staveley/Ghoudossi leaving, right the way through to the window just closed and loads inbetween. With no europe next year, I'd be massively excited to see Howe-Ball 2.0. With a more measured recruitment drive, with more pragmatic sales and with a good clear out, I'd be buzzing to watch us again next season. I'm ready for this one to be over tbh. My big fear for him is the derby at our place. That's the one game where he's at risk of being beyond the point of no return with the matchday fan. Beat them, have a stab at the CL next round or two and then lets fuck this season off into the bin and go again next year with a refreshed squad and only one game per week. There's nobody better than Eddie when he's got one game per week to focus on and more time on the grass. I love him more than ever me and would be gutted if he left. Absolutely gutted.

Two entirely different teams though. They had Mbeumo etc. we had a functional front 3 and weren’t absolutely fucked from playing every few days either. A traditional ‘Howe Newcastle’ with high energy, intensity and power would have killed that midfield imho. It’s all immaterial conjecture though, my wider point is, we were beaten by a very ordinary side who benefited from us being knackered and without momentum.

I’d suggest the minimum ‘ambition’ would be to be taking 4-6 points off a newly promoted side particularly given the local importance and the feeling of fans. Given we now can’t achieve that, Howe needs to be gunning for them in the home game to salvage some pride particularly for the local fans who have to live amongst and work with those cretins. If you don’t place any value on the outcome of the derby and consider it ‘just another 3 points’, I don’t know what to say to you tbh….
