  1. Andy C, Andy C, Andy Andy C He heads the ball in all the time We'll still sing when he's his doing time Andy Andy C
  2. We need to be prepared to invest heavily in the next Aaron Ramsey or similar. Someone who can play football and can have a side built around them. These kids come along quite often (Delph being another one that springs to mind) and get them in the middle of the park for the last 20 minutes of every 1st team game for a good few months until they're ready to make the position their own. We need a footballing midfielder more than ever. How much would you pay for a Peter Beardsley type figure now?
  3. I don't think many fans are expecting a constant stream of top level signings these days but a seasonal 'marquee signing' mixed with good solid pro's (Williamson etc) and young lads with potential (Moses) would be one way of gradually improving the overall quality of the squad along with reducing capital outlay and managing wages. The original article is pretty much what everyone has assumed was the case anyway and why nobody is linking us with daft signings any more iyam. And when you look at the state of finances in football more widely I'd reckon all but 4 clubs will adopt the same strategy if they haven't already and why we need to be investing in the youth setup and the scouting arrangements more than ever before.
  4. Maybe the £15k per week is why we didn't get Moses? Anyone reckon he'll be on more than that at Wigan?
  5. Ironic...............as whenever I go through Croydon there's a far greater percentage of black folk there than many other places in the UK - you'd think someone in the crowd would kick off or at the very least say something. Bad craic.
  6. He'd still be picking the pre-match Big Mac from his teeth.
  7. Not an unfair article but footballs changed alot since the days of Robson etc. I've made my views on signings like Leon Best previously but I do think there's a happy medium to be found inbetween signing nobodies and superstars. Also, I think it's pretty clear that there is not a 'Geordie Abromovich' out there - otherwise he'd be leading us back into the Premiership right now. Ashley gets a kicking in that article but there's so much more to it than just a lack of ambition.
  8. He'll be there a good while yet imo. They would sack him if they went down but they won't do that. Very fortunate that Portsmouth are screwed as this only really leaves them having to perform better than 2 other teams down there which they will.
  9. Very poor movement - showed zero intelligence when Carroll recieved the ball. Whenever Carrol got possession and faced goal Best went square to him and limited all options. You could tell the difference when Lovenkrands came on and actual made some runs.
  10. Have you seen us play this season? We have been awful at times. Only less awful than every other team in the league it would appear? I understand people are struggling with the concept that successfull football is not always attractive football. We have played successfull football all season, however it's rarely been attractive. Has it been good? Well that depends on how you define good. Well would you want to watch this style of football in the long term?
  11. It can't have been £2m, the lad has got no pedigree. It'll be £800k max.
  12. Just what we need . The irony is that if a lower half premiership side bought him we'd all be on here saying 'they're preparing for life in the Championship signing him' yet at the very time we should be preparing for life in the Premiership we buy someone whose record and history is patchy at best. Weird. haven't seen him recently but when at southampton he was a lot more mobile than carroll. Does he look premiership quality? back then he looked like he could make it. lots of youngsters do when they first come through. Fair enough.

  14. To Real Madrid, Barca or Inter? More like Sporting Heehaw.

  16. Is he faster than the Love? don't know...what time is love ? Rapido. Friction burn fast.
  17. He looks a bit of a tit on that photo. Hope he pans off for you, absolutely never heard of him before. Great pun potential tough, that's always a bonus. He looks like a black Avid Merrion.
  18. I think the policy looks something like this; - Buy cheap with potential - Sell high - Salaries as little as possible Will only work if we have a very strong scouting team as every time we sell for a profit we have to hope the replacement will come in and the team won't be negatively impacted. It's more the sports direct strategy than the Arsenal one imho.
  19. It's not him per say it's more what the signing means is what is annoying me. I'll shut up about it now.
  20. Nail on the head. Typical NUFC signing these days. Seems we're getting ourselves geared up for a relegations scrap next year. No offence, but this is ridiculous point of view on a number of levels. We aren't a Premiership club, we don't have much money, so we need to make signings of cheap players who have potential to do better than they have before. Obviously when we're in the Championship we can't prepare a team for a top half challenge in the Premiership, for one thing we can't afford to take the risk with the wage bill. Don't agree in the slightest. We will be promoted and that means why should be planning for it now. How many players out of our current squad are good enough for the Premiership - 7 maybe? Now is the time to be buying players good enough to play at that level who need time to gel with the current side - this is when we should be looking for the next Enrique (young, great potential and probably not after silly wages). We don't have much money - who does? We've got the smallest wage bill we've had in years and with some good planning it could be even smaller - that must free up some capital. We've got to plan for the premiership so all of this bollocks about being a championship club is short sighted - we've got one foot back into the Premiership and need to start to act like a big club again - that means investing in players good enough to improve the team immediately. Didn't Enrique cost £6m. That seems a lot to spend when we don't have much money I thought he was £4.5m but you might be right - I've not looked it up. Point being we should be scouring the various overseas leagues looking for people with the potential to play at the top level and also change our current playing style. why should we be looking to change our current playing style when we are top of the league? Fair enough we play ugly, long ball rubbish but if it is good enough to get us back in the premiership then I am happy with it. We need to guarantee promotion and then change it because it won't work against those teams that can pass and move nor against those who adopt a similar style meaning we'll be up against it from the off. We're like a very poor mans Stoke or Bolton and Bolton are looking to adapt their style and slowly move away from long ball/bullying whilst Stoke and others are way better than us at the ugly stuff because they have some movement/quality to go with it. I'd liked to have seen us sign people in time to get them to gel with the squad and be able to play football with their feet rather than their heads.
