I'd want him deeper than that, alongside Sissoko. Been saying all season that he reminds me of Kieron Dyer in how good he is a picking it up in tight areas and somehow making a bit of space for himself and driving the team forward. Doesn't win the ball like Dyer did but could be used to a similar effect. Much better end product obviously.

He looks very good there defensively and is quick enough to overlap effectively.

You're having a laugh, man. Santon's never come close to Haidara's 'performance' against Liverpool in his 2 years here. He's not a great defender but he's generally decent.

That would include 95% of the strikers in the PL, Championship and League One. Kone's a really good player with a really good record at his last few clubs. We'd get 2 or 3 excellent seasons out of him.

..and would also leave Santon open to getting ripped apart every game. Jonas goes then fine, but then we need an experienced proper left back. Santon can learn how to defend. Or be dropped for Haidara/Mbiwa Haidara makes Santon look like a great defender. Anyway, a creative, fast forward in Jonas' place would offer far more protection than Jonas who gives the ball away constantly and offers no attacking threat to pin a side back on the left.

Back at Rennes he was most definitely primarily a wide player. I actually believe we are using him centrally and sparingly to some extent to avoid him getting injured. Different league, different country. Apparently Gouffran survived as a winger over there for almost a decade, which says it all. Gouffran definitely has the capabilities to survive as wide player in any league. I think he is more suited to it despite his good goal record as a centre forward. Not necessarily in a flat 4-4-2, but I doubt he would be deployed that way. He's not creative at all and can't really beat a man.
