  1. I remember Bobby saying 'you couldn't meet a better person' in his book, like.
  2. I turned on TalkSport and heard 'the loss of Gary Speed' followed by a 2-minute tribute by Ewan Roberts. Was clinging onto the hope that he'd resigned from the Wales job till I decided just to pull over and check Sky News on my iPhone. Just about sunk into the steering wheel when I saw the top headline.
  3. that almost broke the london hoodoo didnt it? they equalise in the last minute? That was the 2-2 in 98-99. Daft lad's on about the 1-1 from 01-02. it would have broken the hoodoo wouldn't it? Yes. We did it about a month or so later at Highbury. Speed played an absolute blinder that night too. Remember following the Highbury game via Teletext. What a game it was. I was there. Probably the best away game I'd ever been to until we travelled to Rotterdam a year later.

    Sunderland...

I think the last time I saw such a comical goal was Luque's in the 1-4.
  5. On this day only I'll refrain from saying what I'd like to happen if Owen and Lawrenson ever shared a means of transport.

  7. I'm going to cry like a baby when this sinks in. Still hasn't.

  9. Irresponsible from Kamara that, how does that help the situation in anyway. He's in grief as well, like...everyone is all over the place about this. You have to make some allowances...I guess? Yep.
  10. I thought ben Arfa was lucky not to get sent off. He ran 40 yards to get involved in something that was nowt to do with him and for which Rooney and Colocinni had already shook hands on and were about to get on with the game. Give over. How on earth could that constitute a red card?

Lee Clark would be poor value at 900/1.
  12. Just gone through some old posts about him because I (incredibly) can't ever remember criticising him, not once. :'(
  13. Horrible to think he might have known that was going to be his last public appearance.
  14. And that's exactly how he's gone too far. Horrible old bastard.
  15. I'd have had him over Clive Owen, tbh. I think Owen's height just sneaked it.
  16. Not sure I can think of too many footballers who are/were as universally liked and respected, both as a player and a man. Definitely. Even RTG managed to pay their respects. Gutted. I'm sure that lot would remember to pay their respects to just about any prominent ex-toon player. They're human beings at the end of the day, even if most of them have spent far too much time reducing their brain cell count in Trimdon Labour Club.
  17. In 2005 during a particularly dull lecture, me and a mate made a list of the ideal candidates to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Speed was 2nd, after Clive Owen.
  18. Between Leeds and toon fans, 18 people I know now have Speed as their FB profile pic Gary was loved.
  19. No, just a good player who took the flak for Gerrard being crap.
  20. Yeah. Unfortunately there'll always be two or three dickheads at the back of the Gallowgate.
