I'm never optimistic for away games. WE've just won so few. Even the year we came 5th, we only won 2! (and they were within 4 days of each other). Even teams we should beat we rarely do. And allardyce i think is the man, but then there's something in me saying "it's newcastle, you'll fail. It never works out" i dunno. It would be great. If we do win though, lets not get carried away like villa fans last year. I'm very curious as to how smith will be deployed. And while geremi will be beneficial defensively at the back, i think i'd rather have him creating at the other end. Geremi to score

I think if solano's not even in the squad then he may do it, especially with his family there. I'm surprised he's not in the squad.

He is a good GK. Dunno about £9mil, but i expected him to go somewhere better than sunderland. I'm quite disapointed as a scotland fan.

I wont be over the moon with smith, but ill be happy enough. Midfielder or attacker, which is important for the squad, and i think £6mil would be a fair price. I think he should be given the benefit of the doubt. And he's hardly the inept player people are making out

Reading the comments on the Manchester Evening News article, ManU fans seem to be very fond of him. I welcome him as long as it's not comprimising our search for defenders.

I saw him play against me in the cubs footy tournament. His team got disqualified though, as he was an illegal player - he was too young. I don't think he is, him in his brother certainly weren't years ago. They were both one of these that plays loads of sports. I think his brother played county cricket or something.

We needed a creative midfielder to play with barton or butt from the start. I'm not sure how much dyer changes things as he was never going to be a starter.

You do realise they're just practise sessions. I only ever go to friendlies if it's a new team to say ive seen or maybe a new ground. I've already seen Celtic, Juventus and Sampdoria - so i shan't be even bothering to watch these.

Are you criticising people for not going to a friendly? I go to every home game (bar holidays of course), half the away games but i never even considered going tonight. It's a friendly, they're boring and merely a practise session. I didnt even check the score til about an hour after. I dont go to hang around outside training sessions either.

Tony Horne on Metro used to claim to be quite close to Shearer and Lee back in the late 90's / early 2000's. He always claimed the biggest jokers in the dressing room at the time were Shearer and Lee - both as bad as each other. Funnily enough, Barton always struck me as a bit of a miserable **** Shearer always got accused of being boring, but if you ever watched them train or anything, shearer was always the clown
