I think overall we were pretty fortunate that season to finish as high up as we did. We scored beyond a ridiculous amount of wonder goals and but for those and a 6 game spell where we played like Barcelona it was quite evident we were punching above our weight.

I quite strongly disagree with a lot of this. I think you can use his pace and lack of skill/trickery as a reason why he may struggle to step up a division as a wide man, but you're painting him as no more than a grafter with little ability that's going through a bit of a purple patch with his end product; something that his career to date has shown is not the case. He has always had very good technical ability; he's a superb passer of the ball and thinks quicker than most. He's decisive, doesn't hold on to the ball longer than necessary and when the opportunity presents itself to either shoot, cross or play a killer pass he often does so with quality. I'd be very surprised if anyone in our team comes close to him for assists, come the end of the season.

Stoke have finished 9th the last 3 seasons.

I don't think it was a bad day tbh, they are just not very good. Which is why they finish 12th-15th every year. Haven't they finished in the top ten the last 3 years or something?

They weren't shite; just once again we executed a game plan very well, and as a result should have won far more comfortably.

Thought Yedlin was one of our better players today, he worked his bollocks off up and down.

Quarter of the way to safety

Great start to the season. Deserved the win despite conceding a couple of goal worthy chances in the second half. Perez was the pick of a good team performance. Yedlin deserves a mention as well.

On replay I think Joselu's second chance was slightly more difficult than I initially thought but you've still got to expect him to score.

I've been impressed with Perez this season. His finishing is still ropy but his range of passing and awareness seems to have improved. His work rate has been outstanding as well.

Really enjoyable overall, but frustrated we didn't get at least a second. Stoke certainly have it in them to get a goal.

Whoever that Fernandes is looks decent.

I'm a big fan of Clark; at the moment he's our most dependable defender and can actually play. He's also useful from set pieces and occasionally in open play (although I'm not sure that's a good thing). Regarding his long balls, I do find it frustrating at times but they always look targeted rather than just "cleared" up field - he often finds a man.

I thought he played well today aside from his effort against the keeper which should have been better. I do think his vision has improved, as he played a number of balls that I didn't expect him to play, such as clever switches of play. It doesn't look like he'll ever be a regular 10+ goal a season player unfortunately; his finishing isn't composed enough.

Diame was fine in the limited time he was on the pitch.

I've gone past being bothered by diving; unless it's completely taken out of the game somehow then I can handle our players doing it.

It's nice to have a pair of centre backs that are handy from corners.

It seems on here that whenever we win a game it's because they've had a bad game or that they're the worst team in the league. It's too soon to get carried away, simply because it's the beginning of the season, but we played well today against a team on a high from a win and a successful close of the transfer window. Happy to just enjoy it and see it as a well executed game plan.
