Hopefully this result will be the reality check Hughton needs to change the team to bring in the new signings, Ben Arfa and Tiote have to be better options than Nolan and Smith.

I am not spectacularly confident that we will stroll this one but, I am looking forward to it immensly!! Bloody 5 weeks into the season and only the 2nd home game, by this time last season we had 3 or 4 at home under our belts. One thing about the Premiership that gets on my nerves is that the games seem so far apart! Hope for the same team that has been starting so far this season with the 2 key signings getting half an hour each at the end, obviously coming on to a tremendous reception. Also hope that we take hold of the game early so that it is not an anxious 1 - 0 or 2 - 1 result.

Bent isn't especially fast and his running style gives the impression that he is really slow as well. He takes very small strides. That goal he scored last night was probably the first time I have seen him strike the ball cleanly, most of his goals for the mackems have been scuffed and bobbled along into the net, even his penalties seem to be scuffed.

The reason she asked about Heskey was that one of her stupid Facebook mates has written something about him being spotted in Newcastle. Lies and smoking mirrors - I am happy to report!
-
Our lass has just shouted up stairs to ask me whether Emile Heskey has signed for Newcastle. Not sure why she asked so I am going to pop downstairs now and beat her to within an inch of her life for being so ridiculous...... I hope!

Can't see O'Hara wanting to leave the South East though, his bird is pregnant and one of those wannabe WAGs so London is the only place he will be allowed to ply his trade!

Just because there are spaces doesn't mean we can/want to afford the wages. Looking at it in a list like that I don't think we'll be bringing anyone else in unless we can find some desperate last-minute bids for our shite players. If I was Hughton looking at your list I would be fairly satisfied to be honest. And I agree with you in that we will probably only do some more business if any of those listed are away. Really glad that Lua Lua is off to Brighton again, I think Poyet is a great coach and will only improve the player during his time down there!
-
I was going to say that a few on Dave's list are exempt under the Premiership rules and therefore there is room for a couple more if any more business was going to be done today..... I think the loan window remains open for a little while longer as well.
-
I would start the same team that has started all season so far, fitness allowing. It could be potentially disruptive to change the team until the new players have had a chance to train a good few times with the squad so each can suss the other out. Worth having Tiote and Ben Arfa on the bench to bring on for the last 20 or so if we are winning confortably by then, let them feel the SJP love for the first time.........

SSN: Newcastle United have been linked with a shock move for Norwegian midfielder Per Ciljan Skjelbred. The Premier League side have been linked with the midfielder for some time, but Sky Sports News understands that a move may be close that would bring the midfielder out of retirement and to St. James' Park for the 2044/45 season. Although now 72 years old and having owned the Tyneside club through twenty consecutive relegation and promotion seasons, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is understood to be reluctant to part with any capital investment and a free transfer would certainly appeal. First linked in the 2006/7 season, Newcastle's interest in Skjelbred has not abated. Since then, however, the club has been criticised by fans for spending a grand total of 2 million euros on new signings, and the re-signing of Kevin Nolan was an unpopular move. Fifty five and now mobile only through use of a large winch, the midfielder's only impact at St James last season was to create a large dent in the centre circle. Whilst Skjelbred may move to Tyneside in the next few hours, the success of such a move remains to be seen. Newcastle are thought to be keeping a close eye on Greenham Athletic's part-time defender Gerry Smith, but may face competition from the local post office who are keen to offer the centre-back a £6/hr deal - one which Newcastle may struggle to match. The wait for success in the Toon continues. 4th August 2044 Related stories: Mike Ashley raises season tickets to record prices Nolan's triple bypass "a success" Owen continues to harbour hope of England recall Very very funny!! Great stuff!

Love all of them, the Shola goal celebration though...............

Well I am not going so you all need to take 1 off your estimates for a start! If I don't go me dad won't go so that is 2 off. You need to think these things through before putting these crazy numbers down for attendance guesses!!
-
Voted yes, there is a long way to go before the season starts and whether it is loan players or maybe a proper signing or two we will have some new faces to watch. Hughton is certainly not stupid and will know where he needs to strengthen for sure, even Ashley won't be that stupid to think that the team from last season will do anything but, struggle in the Premier League.

Assuming that you are referring to my post that is a couple up from yours, you mustn't have read it properly. I didn't say that he deserves his place because he is a loyal servant to the club, I said that after the length of time he has waited and sat on the bench he is unlikely to decide all of a sudden that he needs to leave to progress his career or anything.
-
Harper sat on the bench as number two for 10 years, he is hardly going to be looking to leave now that he is number one.... If the club force a sale then that would be the biggest slap in the face to a very loyal player. Plus he may not be the greatest keeper in the Prem but, he is far from being the worst!
-
Not a current player but, saw Terry McDermott at Fawdingtons on Barrack Road around lunchtime. He was in a One Series BMW that I guess was his wifes car as the last three digits on the personalised number plate were CMC. Looked well in his knee length swimming shorts and T Shirt.

IMPORTANT. The £10 offer expires on 30th April. Ring the box office on 0844 372 1892 (option 5) with your season ticket number and they will take the £10 plus £1 postage and packing from you there and then, the ticket is sent in the post over the next few weeks direct from Nexus.

Up here though!

Last night when Best came on he looked like he really wanted to score, first time I have taken that impression away of him. He was looking all the time for the move or turn that would give him the yard of space to let go. Maybe with a regular run in a team, say the reserves, he would gain that sharpness and pace required but, we all know that in the premiership you don't get a second to compose yourself on the ball. You have to be sharp as a pin to score!

The "Your support" chant makes me cringe when I hear it. A bit like that Division 3 "Easy Easy" chant that occasionally makes an appearance from time to time (at other clubs I hasten to add). Plymouth FC and their supporters were nothing short of tremendous last night. It is easy to forget that they were also relegated after 6 seasons in the Championship. We entered that league at the start of this season full of fear that we were slipping and would end up even lower, it was clear that the media and certain sections of fans from other clubs - not just the mackems - were revelling in our misfortune. probably in reality just grateful it was not them and their own clubs facing the precipice that we stood before! However, through sheer determination from the players we have battled through and won this league well, we will remember this season (hopefully) for our very proud home record and the fact that we have lost so very rarely throughout a very tough campaigne. Some of the more enlightened media commentators have now conceded that Newcastle are a Premier League team and the league has been missing us. Not necessarilly for the team persay but, more for the infrastructure , the fact our stadium is quality, right in the centre of our city and as a result away fans mix freely with home fans making the pre match atmosphere very special. Next season we will be full more often than not so let's use this years experience to come back as better, slightly more humble and more sporting towards our opposing fans. Would be great if the abiding image the media want to take away from Newcastle next season is the fantastic city and brilliant fans who make every home game special instead of their favourite fat drunken Geordie wrapped in a bed sheet with some dopey slogan written on it with gloss paint.

Great season capped off with the trophy for the league! Completely happy!

http://www.networkonetickets.co.uk/magpie-mover I guess they will put the online form up shortly along with the address where to send it. I have had one for the last few years and it saves me a fortune on the Metro.

Hence this thread mate, ha ha!

We should go through the whole team singing "*insert players name here*...give us a wave" and if they dont wave...."Boooooooooooo!!!!" and sing again until they do wave! That would be excellent.
