Competition: Ziani chooses El-Jaisch (rich as f*ck Qatari club)

Who the fuck are Keyserispor? -
SWP gets undue criticism IMO. Obviously he shouldn't be in the England squad as he's not playing for his club, but he's good enough to play regularly for a decent Prem team.

In the sense that the fan's get on Jonas' back like they did with Robert. Two frustrating players. Does something poor in the game and you can hear the abusive shout outs and groans go right through the ground. The two of them combined would be one of the best LW's in the world. Robert was one of the best LWs in the world. Would agree on this, though I got laughed at by quite a few friends when I said it. Imagine if we had a LW now that would score 8-10 goals a season and around 20 assists with Carroll upfront. Ask them to name 10 better ones during his peak. You'll get silence. Pires, Giggs, Ronaldinho, Nedved at least. Feel like im missing someone. I agree somewhat, and I'll rephrase: The two of them combined would arguably be the best lw in the world. Rivaldo - if you can count him as a LW (which he did play - just not all that frequently). Overmars at a push (although in decline). Kily Gonzalez (was probably as good for as short a period of time). Luis Figo (sometimes played on the left I believe). Overmars and Gonzalez better were not better than robert in those 2 seasons. The original comment was that Robert was one of the best LWs in the world. You can't be one of the best LWs in the world if you are exceptional for only 2 seasons. That is not nearly a long enough period to be regarded as one of the best LWs in the world. I think the comment was that he was one of the best LWs in the world at that time, not ever.

A motivated Carroll is nearly unplayable, and his mental strength is immense.

Very good point Stottie, there should be more degrees of bans. Especially since the very nature of a red card means your team has already been severely punished during the initial game.
-
That's a bit stupid, when most of our signings have turned out to be very good.
-
Players can sometimes be harsh judges on one another. A round of applause isn't something to be taken for granted. And great to see them recognising his achievement in battling back from serious injury.

All I was saying is that being a DM doesn't mean it was necessarily silly to bring him on.

He leapt higher than anyone else! Anyone else that year by the sounds of it. -

He looks a lot like Routledge. -

How much have you seen of him, and what do you think of his ability? Genuine question, I've never seen him play as far as I can remember. -
I guess it influences our transfers at a more fundamental level than that though - i.e. we won't even be looking at players who we believe would require us to spend more than we're comfortable with on wages.
-
Just because Tiote isn't creative/attacking, it doesn't mean he couldn't have changed the game. That's highly naive. He was brought on because we were getting overrun in midfield and couldn't get hold of the ball.
-
Except the fact we have a wage budget and if paying 15k more breaks that wage budget, then what is the point in having a wage budget all. Yeah, that's what I was saying. As long as the club has set a wage structure they thing is sensible, and they run transfers based on that, then the actual amount of pounds a week doesn't really matter to me. I just find discussions about wages a bit pointless, when nobody knows what the budget is or what any player is on/is demanding. It's mainly guesswork.

A massive win it is then!!!!! -
Dunno, on balance I think it shouldn't have been a red, but I can see arguments why it should have been - as this thread proves. Either decision could be argued to be right really... in those cases I'm not expecting a referee to change his mind. It's a tough one, don't get me wrong.
-
I wouldn't call it a mistake by the referee though, there was every indication it was a red card in real time.
-
Don't really see how paying someone £30k is that much less ridiculous than paying them £45k. Wages are all relative, if the club is being run sensibly then I don't really care about individual player wages. They're all insane.
-
Well that's debatable, they both feature regularly for the first team anyway. It was just an example though, no doubt Liverpool did it with Gerrard and Arsenal with Fabregas etc enough times.

Who invented the term 'speedens up'? -
Did anyone here Ian Holloway's interview on Talk Sport last night? Love the guy, his interviews are class and he seems to really be building a club and culture at Blackpool that's on all the right foundations.
-
Plenty of time for that yet.

Pardew isn't the only manager who can't decide whether he cares about the cup. Look at what Ancellotti did against us in the Carling Cup... brought on Kalou and Benayoun and they both got injured. I would rather just accept defeat to Stevenage, or play our strongest team from the start... but it doesn't seem to work like that in reality.

Watched the Birmingham v West Ham game on iPlayer last night, Larsson looked for the most part very, very poor.
