We're 2 points off the bottom, haven't won in 8, have an injury list double the size of any other Prem team and just made a big fat profit in a transfer window when we desperately needed strengthening - doesn't require much exaggerating if you ask me! Fuck it, I can't be bothered any more.

Jonas Gutierrez signed from Mallorca on 5 year deal

Striking technique is absolutely key, you can generate a lot of power without as much effort if you can strike a ball cleanly. -

No, I want at least two Argentines, preferably with stupid hair. -
Would be 'spot on' if it wasn't a completely made up load of horse shit. FFS, some of the criticism on here is going way too far at the moment, I know people are annoyed but it's beyond a joke. We're inviting bids for players on the most wages/most sell on value, whilst getting in cheap replacements and offering new contracts to dross. What do you expect us to think - that we're making a final push for the title? You're blind if you can't see an obvious pattern emerging. Your general point isn't a bad one, but you've just done what everyone has been doing recently and taken it too far, listing 'Ashley's plan' that you have no idea of and saying we're planning to offload players where there's no evidence whatsoever.

I think the biggest danger is exaggerated negativity TBH. And anyone who thinks relegation would be anything other than a disaster for the club is a moron, no excuses.

Nicky Butt enacts one-year contract extension clause

Not surprised, not happy, hope he won't be near the first team next season. -
Investing in football clubs is madness. I know, in terms of return, all I mean is that it is now one of Mike Ashley's assets which will either increase or decrease in value. It's not like buying a product.

To be honest, I've stopped looking out for what True Faith have got to say... I think it's about time they changed their name. They could have written this before the transfer window and just filled in the names of whatever players we ended up getting. And I don't know why they keep returning to the 'Wise based in London' arguments and all the other shit we've heard done to death. Saying that Ashley's £140m was the 'purchase price' and not an 'investment' is just ludicrous as well, it's not like buying a Mars bar FFS. When you buy an asset for that money of course it's an investment.

I reckon that's exactly what we was doing, he was one of the few midfielders we had not hiding from the ball, and he took on the role of basically creating all of our attacking threat... as well as working his bollocks off to get back and defend. He's basically doing the work of at least 2 players. Which is just as well as Duff does the work of 0. -
Ketsbaia might get the fans' backing, which is a big plus. Would quite like to see someone who actually understands the recruitment system we have in place, and the restrictions we're working under. I can't believe their aren't quality managers that would take those limitations and work with them.

Aye, I'd never be able to support a decision to keep JFK on permanently. Although Ashley wouldn't be the only owner to make a bad managerial appointment!

Pre Match: West Bromwich Albion vs. Newcastle United - 07/02/09 3pm
AyeDubbleYoo replied to joeyt's topic in Football
Hopefully West Brom will be quite open, as they usually are, and give us a chance to get amongst them. If we play like we did against the mackems I can see us getting a win, WB are nearly as bad as we are. -
I think he bought the club for fun, not realising how costly it would be to run it. Even typing that about a successful businessman seems weird, but I can't see any other explanation. I don't know whether he has my 'backing' or not, but I instinctively support NUFC and the people involved in running it... I suppose that's why I find it hard to lash out at him. Also, I realise the situation we were in financially and I can see where he is coming from with regards to making us more self-sufficient. If we don't implode in the next couple of seasons, I really think that will be in the best interests of the club. The main problem I see with Ashley is his lack of a coherent vision, and his unwillingness to stick to his principles. He combined a continental recruitment system with an old-school, emotional manager. Then when it went tits-up he decided he wanted out on a whim. Then when he was forced to stay he employed another bizarre managerial appointment instead of reverting to the original plan. I don't know what to think at the moment, I just hope we make it to the summer in the premiership so we at least have a chance to sort it.

That's irrelevant when it comes to the issue of whether his leaving has weakened us though. Our best run of form came with him in the side and I think it has. We saw on Sunday how much one weak flank inhibits our game. Double/treble up on Jonas and stop us playing. I agree, I was just saying that we couldn't blame Kinnear/Ashley for him leaving.
-
Why do people persist in saying this, that's all we ever do regardless of the situation, that's all we have done and no doubt will always do. Its a pointless thing to say because it goes without saying surely. I wish it did, but sadly not the case. You only have to sit next to some of the whinging tits at SJP to see that a lot of people are there to complain more than they are support.
-
Fair enough, but the whole point is we don't know whether we've done that or not.
-
To be honest, it's irrelevant whether Mike Ashley has my backing or not. He's here, he's not selling, so what we need to do is get behind the team. That's what football supporters are supposed to do.

State of the squad until the end of the season
AyeDubbleYoo replied to toontownman's topic in Football
The squad is reasonably small, but the team isn't bad considering the injuries. The only way is up with regards to injuries, so I'm still fairly confident we will stay up. Oba coming back is obviously key. With Oba and Carroll up front R Taylor could be a very big player for us... it's been ages since we've had anyone who could deliver a set piece. -
