That's irrelevant when it comes to the issue of whether his leaving has weakened us though. Our best run of form came with him in the side and I think it has. We saw on Sunday how much one weak flank inhibits our game. Double/treble up on Jonas and stop us playing. I agree, I was just saying that we couldn't blame Kinnear/Ashley for him leaving.

Why do people persist in saying this, that's all we ever do regardless of the situation, that's all we have done and no doubt will always do. Its a pointless thing to say because it goes without saying surely. I wish it did, but sadly not the case. You only have to sit next to some of the whinging tits at SJP to see that a lot of people are there to complain more than they are support.

Fair enough, but the whole point is we don't know whether we've done that or not.

To be honest, it's irrelevant whether Mike Ashley has my backing or not. He's here, he's not selling, so what we need to do is get behind the team. That's what football supporters are supposed to do.

State of the squad until the end of the season
AyeDubbleYoo replied to toontownman's topic in Football
The squad is reasonably small, but the team isn't bad considering the injuries. The only way is up with regards to injuries, so I'm still fairly confident we will stay up. Oba coming back is obviously key. With Oba and Carroll up front R Taylor could be a very big player for us... it's been ages since we've had anyone who could deliver a set piece. -

That's only the fans. -
great, too bad he's shit at everything else For fuck's sake... I've got to do something else for a bit, the negativity on here is spectacular.

He never stood a chance, the volume and signings that would have made people praise him was impossible. (Sorry, but it's could have.) Utter bollocks. +1 Well come on then, what would you have been happy with? And how does that compare to what any premiership club in a similar situation has done in January?

Would you take getting relegated and coming right back up right now?

What is the other option though? Going down and not coming straight up? Then obviously yes, I would! -

Eh? Would I take it as opposed to what? -
He never stood a chance, the volume and signings that would have made people praise him was impossible. (Sorry, but it's could have.) Utter bollocks. In what way? I know you're an intelligent poster, so what would have been 'good enough'? And also, how would that compare to what a premiership club has ever done in a January window? If we'd signed someone like Johnson (young, talented, attacking central midfielder), I think pretty much everyone would have praised the owner for taking a positive step to address our biggest problem through investment in the first team, even if some wanted yet more. I just can't stand this 'you wanted £60m spent'/'it was impossible for Ashley to win' argument. It's totally inaccurate; simply muck-spreading. I just don't believe everyone would get off Ashley's back if we had added Johnson to the signings we made. Johnson and Bent, and Veloso, then we're talking. I'm not saying people wanted £60m spent, but everyone knows good players are hard to get in January - they just don't want to take anything away from their anti-Ashley stance.

Premiership survival would have suited me. I realise that was a bit much to ask for. Are we relegated then? Shit, I take it all back. So because we're not mathematically gone now, he's done enough? Dear me. I didn't say that, you brought up 'premiership survival'. I always said I would have liked more signings, but I think we did alright considering what is achievable in January. I can't be bothered typing 'but obviously I would have liked more players' on the bottom of every post.

Mine's on about a 4 at the moment, still think we're more likely to stay up. I am worried though.
