It's the application of the minute detail of the replay that is going to make any offside rule look bad. Even if it was feet then a foot would be an inch ahead of another foot in a weird position. Like I said, I can't think of any way to use VAR to referee offside well.

Honestly don't know how you can solve it, particularly when the rule is combined with the detailed technology we've got. Will always add up to a decision that's completely against the spirit of the rule, but I don't know what you can do about it.

Came in to say the same thing, head up and looking for progressive passes. Weirdly before he came I thought his decision making of when to release the ball and when to keep it was one of his strengths. The pass he made for the Barnes back heel was pretty good.

Don't know about anyone else but my immediate answer is Alan Shearer, he's one of the best at his job and he's at the peak of his career. I find it helpful to do a thought experiment about what I would feel like if I read this afternoon that Eddie had quit. Would I be happier or more worried about the future of the club? No doubt in my mind I would be more worried than I am now.
