I think it’s more that we were expecting so many games that we would need significantly better options to come in.

Personally I would just have kept Targett, dunno what the story behind that one is.

We improved the quality of the squad options, in theory. Of course we also suffered the loss of our best first team player at the same time.

I’m sure one problem is that we don’t know which of the new signings will end up being good for us. We might not need a RW, we might not need a new striker, for example.

I just never know how many squad places are actually available. Like for Neave, we now have Osula back. We have 2 players per position in most positions. Of course we as fans can say "if X player gets injured we are weak", but I just don't know if the club can actually operate like that in reality.

They've really raised their game on digital content for social media and video TBF, nothing that would affect whether Gordon gets put up for Sky Sports though obviously.

I've said it before, if the PL was a single company with a strategy instead of a member's club it would never allow this. They'd want the max money in for the most exciting product possible. Or at least they would allow everyone to spend competitively at around the same level.

I don't think he got benched due to anything other than Wissa being more proven in the PL TBH. Certainly Wissa hasn't done any better than Woltemade was doing.

I think quite a lot of midfielders in the PL have no goals or assists like. Could be wrong.

Really nice article. I think the stand-out mistakes and the poor 1v1 ability are what wind fans up, especially when they are set against someone. I feel like he's been turning a corner slightly though. Even against Villa he made a really confident foot-to-foot skill move and got away from his defender but overdid the power and the ball ran out of play. Also think Woltemade being taken out so often is not ideal for them building an understanding.

But I mean, so what? Every manager picks certain players over others every week. It's just things like "Howe considers Ramsey levels below Joelinton" that sound very silly to me. It's like we're trying to make normal team selection some kind of damning indictment on signings we aren't happy with.

I think on paper the signings were pretty solid, they've just not contributed much (or not enough to offset what Isak lost us). People have whinged about nearly every signing we've made and have basically been wrong every time. Just so happens this time it has gone badly and made them look like they have a clue.

Think Miley was on a development path though, he might have got a chance earlier obviously.
