He spoke about his fitness regime in that the overlap interview you can watch it on YouTube i think. Nothing ground breaking what others have said he prefers to stay out of the gym.

Take one of ours we take one of theirs? Amortisation still a thing isn't it? Might suit both clubs just feel we need Barnes for rotation whe in Europe but sell when you can may be the clubs motto going forward.
-
I wonder if say a longstaff sale allows a hidden gem for under 20m say as a replacement or go towards the pot for other positions?
-
Ooh fun final bow for longstaff or willock and miley battling it out for the final push. Gutted for him but the amount of strapping big joe has had what feels like most of the season he's lasted longer than expected.
-
You know your stuff better than me here but miggy sale, losses from the spend from 3 seasons ago and going deeper into the league cup competition, stack money, Gordon contract extension pushing his amortisation spend to 5 years again must have helped alleviate most issues. Might prevent that June grey area spend but come the summer we must be OK. Edit just clutching at straws here and just realised this whole losses from past windows wouldn't kick in until next financial year not in June.
-
Depends on the 5 keepers we have and who stays and who goes Dubs was extended till summer but seemingly dropped for Pope once fit. Pope unless we or him have an option to extend a year has 12 months left come the summer Ruddy well who knows Greek fella who going to buy him if he reportedly rejected Saudi. I wouldn't be against him coming in number 1 but depends how early in the window he comes in and how he performs preseason etc.
-
If we spend 20 or 25m on him unfortunately he's not going to be a slow burn. Dubs may be off Pope is on a relatively short contract now so while he may not come in number 1 gairenteed he's going to start plenty of games.
-
Only the 1 year left so maybe lower than that be happy with 10m+ based on this and his lack of game time this season.
-
I know we shouldn't care but if we keep him how long does he get? If there are no Upturn in performances are you happy this version of willock getting an extension? If you are fine but if your thinking not then now is the time with 2 years left to sell if we can of course. If we have an option of a year and as you say longstaff goes then this can wait for another year and he gets more time to improve.

Referring back to his stats https://www.premierleague.com/players/14446/Joe-Willock/stats 9 assists, 50% tackle rate 30odd% shooting accuracy aren't great. The assist from 2 years ago was sublime and wil be in highlight reels for years to come but is that what he's going to produce or an anomaly? Since then it's looking like the outlier.
-
Not disagreeing with you but I think my point is we and the player are at a cross roads 26 is headed to peak age. He's got 2 years left unless we or the player have an option for an extra year. We could see how it goes and it turns out like longstaff less and less time limited contract and so limited fee. Or we try and cash in now we can't wait forever to capture his electric form of 4 years ago we are a better side and the player has regressed. If that's limited playing time or injury more strengthens my argument to see what we can get for him.
-
He signed a 6 year deal I think in 2021 so by the summer he's 26 with 2 seasons left on his deal. How long is he given to rediscover something? He's a saleable asset and a decent offer I am already at the sell rather than him getting a new deal he may have been unlucky with injury and not good enough to be displacing those starting over him that's just the life of an ever changing team and squad they don't all make it.
-
I put him in the squad player sub appearance bracket but he's an asset that cost nearly 30m for that outlay I would want more. Hence why I am happy for him to be sold being the main man starting more games may get him back to the Willock we loaned.
-
The end product seemly dried up following the loan spell though his stats outside of the context of minutes played isn't great. Not sure what he's meant to be he's not physical enough to be a DM and isn't potent enough to be a goal scoring midfield his driving runs we all enjoyed a few seasons ago has been replaced by underwhelming and frustratingly poor performances. https://www.premierleague.com/players/14446/Joe-Willock/stats

He was trying to find his feet quite literally at times. Wanting to drag the ball out to the left and occupy space that Barnes and Tino were occupying wasn't great. When the ball came to him the first half in the box instead of trying a shot he took his foot out of the way. Felt sorry for him getting bullied by their player who was clearly on the wind up. He looked visibly annoyed at being subbed which I think was him knowing that chances to impress and cement some sort of more regular starts are starting to run out. The fact the side needs players outside of midfield this summer and longstaff the more likely to go next gives him a little more time.

Willock done nothing to deserve a start in my opinion prove me wrong fella. Future is Miley would have preferred him starting to get mins not that his cameos have been much better.

I wonder if we get champions league we will finally announce some of those lacking sponsorship areas such as training ground and training kit to boost the kitty more. Has been debated already about how slow it's been and if that's been lack of europe or market conditions or the man city challenges. However for me we are going to have to continue to invest heavily and have an aging squad in certain areas wait too long and you start looking at barnes/bruno/big joe also heading to 30 and seeing their value diminish as they get older. Obviously this is obvious but in theory even when you have a great starting 11 the investment is continuous as even your good players age out just need to ensure your not having to do major surgery every summer as its not possible in a psr world.
-
I guess if you believe him and then believe there will be clubs in need to "balance the books " it might also depend how rigid the club are from their list of targets going forward. Also how discrete clubs are in offering out assets for sale. Ideal world we don't need to do that and go for 100% who we want. Although next best thing would be we take someone's pants down and force them to take say the keeper or longstaff or willock for an inflated fee.
-
Craig no Hope was peddling the narrative a while ago following the lack of Jan investment that keeping our funds could mean we could take advantage of clubs in a similar need to sell position we were in the summer prior before that end of June deadline. Not sure if I read any media saying similar.

I think home grown with value while we still navigate the PSR shite will always come about prospect of selling. Howe himself said regards Anderson albeit paraphrasing here clubs are rewarded financially from selling the local academy products. Ultimately he may struggle here to break through to get the minutes needed to push his development and ultimately be sold. However we aren't there yet surely out of the "extra" squad in midfield we have longstaff and willock are first to go. Depending on injuries later in his career big Joe could also be sold down the line plenty of opportunity yet. The biggest downside of no Europe and a very good first 11 means we struggle to give meaningful minutes to our good enough to play but not good enough to take the starting spot. Hoping that if we do get Europe next year (I know we have conference but its qualifier only, I believe) we mange to get Europe again come the end of the following season. Extra games are a drain on a smaller squad but season on season Europe is how clubs status and finances start to keep pace with ambition. Plus gives squad members meaningful minutes. Right now it's a win win he's young and developing if it works out it has the potential to save us 40/50/60m in the future recruitment if it fails the prices of young players with potential could still get us 20/30m in the future of pure profit to invest again.
-
It's an issue when most what he does is sub par its not about not seeing the good it's the lack of it present. To be fair I appreciated the pass out to the wing but other than that it was alot of mistimed, misplaced akward moments on the ball. He's seen his boyhood club lift a trophy and he contributed to it. Hope he moves on as we as a team already have.
-
I brought Dummett and Ritchie up as rumour was howe wanted them to stay the loyalty is lovely but sentiment means you never let people go and evolve and develop as a side. Great 40k spanked on the wall to be emergency backup 5th choice rather let him go and get someone young and up and coming with no pressure to start the back line is aging out badly. We are going to have to bite the bullet eventually kraft, BDB and Schar are already staying that's enough of the older lot sticking around for me.
-
I don't want him getting regular mins and have doubts he will come back and do a job with such a long lay off he's had and his age. He's an older pro and can do a job if needed that's it to me. He is in the leadership group and was allowed to keep the word captain against his name but what he did to get us here I cannot say as I don't know. But works both ways I also cannot say he played a great deal into it either. I want to upgrade the first 11 and ideally see players who don't sell become our squad the issue at centre half is that all these players are aging out. Keep schar and BDB yes played loads now and maybe playing less will extend their careers but would rather not extend every old player to kick the issue of recruitment down the road. Hence why ideally lascells gets let go and Howe gets a young under 23 under no pressure to start and use his magic hall give him a year to integrate but they are in and around the first team. It felt like a good time to see him lift a trophy get fit and be let go. We all know in a non PSR world alot of the old regime players would have been cycled out by now.
-
Totally get that squad rebuild already has a shopping list and I don't follow our youth sides to know if any can fill that gap. However on the flip side next summer we could be talking about needed a schar, burn, Trips, kraft and lascelles replacements on one fell swoop if they all stay this year and go the next this will be hard to do financially but also at risk of breaking up the defensive unit in one fell swoop. Letting Lascelles go now may add a shopping item to this summer but would give a chance to maybe sign a young player and give them 12 months on the fringe to wait for their chance to step up.
-
We will have to agree to disagree then my main issue was the assumption from the post I originally replied to I needed reminding that he adds value and in real life players hang around. While I agree we will get fringe players we have Kraft for that as a low wage low appearance does a job when called upo pro my issue is I don't want a pile of them. Going back to last summer the rumour was Howe would be allowed to keep Dummett and Ritchie would have stuck around for the season if we had of gotten european football. Jamaal, Trips, Schar and BDB are all over 30 and need to improve and letting some old players go on frees may force the club to invest in the back line in phases unless we offering one years to them all again next summer. I don't want them all to walk away next summer for instance and all need replacing. My point of Gillespie is he has a squad number been here 5 years for 10k a week and offered nothing on the pitch he's possibly stopped a youth prospect being that "training keeper" we saw in his last appearance he's sub par i don't care if he poses good for the social media stuff I want my squad numbers to go to players I can see us offering minutes to. 25 man squad yes and filler players are in all of the prem sides squads but we have maybe 15 players to call upon regularly we need to raise the bar for the other squad players so they can realistically offer something tangible on the pitch. Lascelles may still be able to offer something but injured for a year 31 years old and clearly struggling to come back we have no clue what sort of player we are going to be getting back.
