  1. I don't understand it either but the take over players all signed bar bruno and Gordon all are on their amortisation costs per year the same when they signed the losses drop off a 3 year cycle but the costs per year wage and amortisation remain the same? Someone will tell me if I have been too thick to understand it. Not expecting massive moves in the summer partly due to the numbers who may go on frees if the youth don't step up to take meaningful squad places we will need squad padding and first 11 quality signings.

    Joe Willock

Instantly saw the bump and thought injured again 🤣 He's struggling to make an impact when he's come on in any game in the middle and false 9. I think in terms of RW Willock I am hoping I don't have to find out.
  3. West ham vibes for me. Hopefully Eddie won't let complacency get involved. Do our thing and we a match for most in the league.
  4. Was hoping any Isak new deal and Gordon's new one will be offset by miggy wages and also possibly letting go of Wilson and lascelles maybe shipping targett out the door in the summer too will help. Hoping whoever gets a trigger for a 12 month extension will be at a similar rate to what they currently on too. Like Tesco say "every little helps"

    Joelinton

He's got such a good engine and work rate and ability and willingness to play anywhere for the team. Think I said this already he stands out as the weak link of the 3 not because he's a bad player more that the other 2 are so good. I was also disappointed how he seemed to keep hold of the ball too long and gets it taken off him. However at times he's got 2 or 3 players on him which does create space for others even if it doesn't always pay off. Still worried that shoulder strapping he's carrying something too.
  6. Agreed definitely and by all accounts Ritchie was running drills and warm ups at the start of games so maybe a good coach not a squad player on however much a week taking up a squad place to play under an hour a season. I know all teams carry players who don't realistically play and are squad filler but we right now need more than the 15 players we regularly can call upon on match days that was the case 3 or 4 transfer windows ago and is just as important now.
  7. We will have to agree to disagree at this point dummett has joined Carlisle ffs model pro course he was but he took up a squad place and was offering nothing on the pitch likewise at the stage Ritchie was let go reluctantly neither was he. Howe goes on about small group and squad if you instantly have 5 or 6 players who will never realistically play it's not sustainable if you want to be a side fighting on multiple fronts. The Gillespie lad i will never agree on 10k a week to basically never play be a cone on the practice pitch and be in media stuff is simply not good enough surely a youth keeper would be better placed for that slot. We have a side with a mix of elite and full internationals on the books not sure what the group of canny lads can offer them especially at this stage of the build ( was essential at the take over as we needed to lean on our experienced players to help unify the team). While older players can bring leadership we all at least agree we need to be better at moving players on I for one would like the players who don't play and aren't up to it shipped first.
  8. Howe certainly has a good eye for a player obviously not knowing how much input others into identifying them. Main issue with Howe stems from player loyalty wanting Ritchie and dummet kept, giving new contracts out to Mark Gillespie and extensions to Wilson etc (again no inside info how much that's the board wanting to protect their investment keeping these players), How many chances will willock/longstaff/miggy get/got. Also thanks to PSR we hoping Mitchell can shop in the cheap gems category while every transfer is a risk Howes best players have come from those around the 40m plus bracket which you would hope is less of a risk not taking anything away from the manager at all.
  9. The league wanted so many points per million breach think the panel did less then appeal got it reduced. Not sure how they would calculate a 100m or 200m breach.
  10. I can understand negativity even if it may appear the clubs hands are tied. Not announcing a new training kit sponsor, training ground sponsor or club stadium name/ partnership seems like to an idiot like me "easy wins" to help inflated the coffers. The main reason for my own negative outlook is what has come before it if we sign no one that's no new 1st teamers in 3 windows. At times we look in need of better quality and quality depth and added to the mix the number out of contract or only getting 1 year deals mean it's a perfect storm to be negative. If we had of spent in the summer and that meant we did nothing in Jan as its a bad window and not good value and we trust in the squad we have that's fine. However we didn't and I had hoped despite not being good with numbers that if we found ourselves struggling or that we had the chance to do well and in both cases new signings would make the difference we would Sell to buy has turned into sell to consolidate to look at the summer. I don't know the right course of action or all the facts but sticking with what we have is a gamble going to know if thats the correct call at the end of the season I guess.
  11. Honestly think the MLS not restarting till later is the year is only reason it's not happened straight away or at least I hope it's the only reason
  12. Unfortunately no one of note everyone reporting 20m are quoting that various places have quoted 20m your not going to have am official confirmation from the club either way https://www.newcastleworld.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-uniteds-ps20m-goalkeeper-signing-confirmed-as-ffppsr-truth-revealed-4779263
  13. I think Dowie at the time said minimal fee then reports came out it was 20. Think they paid 8/12m for him despite him not being first choice by the end of the season if they doubled their money accountancy trick or not we got our bums spanked.
  14. It does but signed a 3 year deal in 2023 so only 18 months left maybe a factor?

    Lloyd Kelly

He may be right if we want 20m euros they have offered 12 according to the journo that broke the story that's some distance. Even if they offered good money if its a loan with an option to buy it does us no good short term other than Kelly may play more for them than us.

    Lloyd Kelly

Lascelles I hope goes but even if he doesn't that's him, Kraft, Schar and BDB all coming to the end of their careers over 30 and currently getting yearly contract extensions to kick the issue down the road. Alex Murphy following a promising summer 2 years ago hasnt really gotten very far so far from certain he is going to develop into anything no idea from all the youth we have brought in recently if anything will come of it defensively. I feel like in terms of CB we arent that far away from needing some proper investment despite Botman hopefully returning and playing well.

so they offering 12 we want 20 doesnt sound that close.

    Lloyd Kelly

I think Craig no Hope was basically saying in one of his youtube videos its likely to happen but the MLS season doesnt kick off until March/April? so no rush to get Almiron over to them to have a 2 month lay off. I guess as usual Howe isn't saying yes or no when asked even directly just miggy is a good pro who is aware of the interest so your guess is as good as mine if its a certainty we selling him or not.

    Lloyd Kelly

I think thats the mini debate I am having in my head if by next season Botman is back and preferred choice and BDB is still a perfectly reasonable backup then Kelly will sit getting very little game time outside of another big injury however if this is BDB peak and his form drops off a cliff then 12m for Kelly may not seem like good business if it would cost more than that to bring in his replacement. Obviously its hard as we need depth but the wages sitting there for the number of minutes Kelly is getting doesnt make sense right now based on the form of others keeping him out of the side.

    Lloyd Kelly

As usual its the devilish what ifs isn't it here that's hard to forecast. If this is BDB's swan song good season and he gets say an extra year or 2 contract and rapidly declines and if we get into Europe next season having a player to step in would be great we may miss a free like Kelly as go out and get someone is going to be 15/20/25 maybe even 30m so doesnt really help us as the fee may just about cover a replacement. Alternatively BDB continues to be a mainstay in the side or preferred backup eventually and Kelly in 2 years is 28 and no longer the young cheap centre back waiting to step in. However right now we need the money clearly and need players in other positions the rumoured wages of the likes of Kelly and Targett are impacting our ability to offer the bumper pay rise to the likes to Isak. If its only 12m and its loan with a obligation to buy its not really helping us in the short term but the club keep saying its the long term gain so maybe its worth it.

    Lloyd Kelly

not sure its 30m offer just that article states his value is approx 30m euro's like you say if we can get 15/20m to go back into the squad and get his wages off the books sounds too good to be true. the romano post is 15m euro so around 12.5m if its structured with a loan to buy that might not help buy anyone this window though.

    Joelinton

Not making excuses for him but he's still got that shoulder strapping, played probably too many minutes and then we use him as our Swiss army knife of versatility. He's been central, more advanced central, left wing, right wing and extra man in defence. He's probably the weak link of the three because the other two are just so good. Even yesterday trying to hold the ball up with 3 players on him is a skill we would miss in certain games his shooting is atrocious at times that's two games in a row it's fallen to him to hit the sky but he does offer us alot. As he gets older and continues to pick up bookings we have to get used to rotating him out for certain games the squad development and depth just isn't there yet despite the number of midfielders on our books no one does what big joe does.

    Paul Mitchell

I think Kaka just covered this in his reply but not making a decision and keeping it until the summer is still a decision and he along with Howe and the club will have to live with the consequences. As a fan i can only call it like I see it 3 windows of none first 11 ready players, an aging squad, obvious areas of weakness and needed improvement in the squad and alot of players getting close to out of contract. Alot of work to do and right now while the league is the way it is we have a good chance to be in the mix the lack of signings may be the difference from 4th or 8th based on the current pack.

Agreed you shouldn't judge someone by information you dont have and assumption. However that private press session he had after the summer mess he spoke of not being fit for purpose etc etc right now I have no idea if keeping our powder dry until the summer is a good or bad thing and the "gamble" will either pay off in terms of keeping the lads together and riding a momentum wave to European football and maybe champions league. However games like today remind you have fragile things can be no one on the bench really to change the game "tired players" and players who have under performed which could have been down to believing their own hype or not having someone there to push them out of the starting line up. Some of these issues are out of Mitchell's control he doesn't select the players and doesn't do the team sheet but it must be fairly obvious we have a small squad and an even smaller squad again of real quality players. Mitchell is here to make the tough calls I guess it depends if him sitting on his hands and sticking with the team and not adding to it is classed as a decision or not.

    Paul Mitchell

Only talking about this topic specifically but think when you lose you look to see why and then what can be done about it Mitchell is definitely in a position within the club to do something. I have no issue losing to the better team especially if its not controversial like a penalty or a VAR call that cost you. However when you see the same starting 11 alot of fixture congestion and look to see answers you hope that a signing or two will change things up/lift the mood/ offer competition for any complacency/ improve your chances that heavy defeats wont happen again etc etc. The fact Mitchell has come in and so far not been able to offer anything tangible as far as the fans are aware of and the backdrop of looking to sell and seemingly not buy you can come in here with an air of frustration. Obviously appreciate its the fickle nature of us all that this topic would come off the first page of the forum while we are winning until the end of Jan transfer window or the summer if we continued in our good form.
