Also wasn't Clarke on about £1m at West Ham? I know it was very high for an assistant as Gold & Sullivan complained about the salaries Zola and Clarke were on when they told over. No doubt they are having to pay up his contract over a period of time and that would probably be cancelled if he took another job. If Hughton is on the reported £200K - £300K, then the money offered to Clarke would be a lot less and bearing in mind the uncertainty of Hiughton's position plus the relocation factor, it is probably not worth it from his point of view.

None from what I could see. Even Shearer who was a huge supporter of his, dropped him. I think he decided at Xmas that he would be off at the end of the season and after that just spent matches trying not to put himself in a situation where he might get injured. He should certainly have put away some of the chances he had and just one or two of them would probably have kept us up.

I don't want to believe it but I do not trust Ashley. Someone with contacts inside the club told me last week that Hughton's job was in jeopardy before the rumours started but I just don't want to believe that Ashley would be that stupid. I am not sure what to make of the statement as most of their statements in the past have proved to be incorrect and most previous rumours discounted by fans have been proven to have some truth in them after all. I think if this was to happen anytime soon it would be very damaging as the fans are mostly content with Hughton at present and it could hugely damage the morale of the team. I just think the turmoil would start all over again unless they appointed an exceptional manager and Pardew and the like fall far short of that.

I'm sure we wore our home strip in the Stadio Delle Alpi, no idea why it was swapped round, may have been some kind of mixup with shorts and socks or something. Not sure if this is true but I was told that in the Champions League, that the away team gets to wear their home strip.

The upper levels are closed though apart from the away supporters so I think it will be quite low.

Allardyce is fond of "easing" players in.

Adam Sadler, youth coach for Plymouth now. Did you google him after you wrote GK coach at Gateshead? He was axed along with McDermott after Keegan left then went to join Roeder's coaching staff at Norwich. Isn't he Steven Taylor's cousin?

I think he has Irish parents but he himself was born in England.

Some journalist on Talksport was saying that Pardew was being lined up to take over from Hughton. First time I had heard his name mentioned. I wouldn't want him and cannot imagine him lasting very long here either.

Would definitely play Shola against the Mackems as he has a good record against them.

If true, then it is bad form from the Captain who is always banging on about it being all about the team rather than the individual.

Agree with this. I think very slowly and gradually the club is alienating itself from this city and the supporters. The longer Ashley hangs around the greater the damage. I don't think this is intentional on his part but there is a lack of understanding of (and willingness to learn) how to run a football club and its role within the city and the community. Many people are starting not to care and eventually most won't and where will the football club be then. People like Keegan, Robson and SJH recognised this and reached out and embraced the city and supporters and when everyone is on one side, it is a very powerful force. Unfortunately this lot will not or cannot see this.

It feels like SD are taking over Newcastle. I was in town yesterday and you've got all those signs on the corner of Blackett Street and then I went in the Monument arcade and they have moved in there. If they are showcasing how to advertise on the roof by painting SD on the top, I hope it is easy to remove with all the "prospective buyers" rushing to take up such an opportunity. (If England get the World Cup then they will have to remove it anyway but then I guess Ashley won't expect to be here then so it won't be his problem). Certainly not the same as putting signs up that can easily be removed. And it will certainly spoil all the aerial shots of Newcastle the city.

It's down to AC pulling out of the u21 squad twice with knocks and Pearce is saying he didn't want him anyway. Making himself look a t*** basically. In that last U21 game, Albrighton was getting some great balls into the box but Sturridge and Welbeck were wasting those opportunities. I thought at the time if AC had played, they would have scored a hatful even if he was just knocking the balls down to other players. So I definitely think this is a case of Pearce in a huff with Carroll for withdrawing from the last squad and wanting to teach him a lesson.

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/157062/Samir-Nasri-Joey-Barton-was-evil-/ SAMIR NASRI: JOEY BARTON WAS 'EVIL' I can't believe they are using this headline in relation to this story. Does he really believe that the only "evil" footballer is Barton. "Nasri revealed he had not forgotten Barton’s antics, saying: “With the exception of one time, when Barton tried to hack me down, players are not evil.”

Liverpool are a lucky club - they will always land on their feet.

Miles Starforth on Twitter Res game ended 0-0. Few chances, but positives for #nufc the successful return from injury of Simpson & Guthrie. Both looked fit & sharp

thats the one not sure on it tbh Wasn't he Bolton's record signing at something like £10m. They will want a profit on that especially as he is playing well now so it won't happen.
-
I heard that McLaren often used him as a sub and brought him on when they were winning to protect the lead.
-
I thought Carroll was excellent against Everton - but only outside the box as he is a marked man in that area now with so many defenders around him. Unfortunately for him, the opposition know they don't need to worry about any other strikers so they focus all of their attention on him.

In our relegation season, I believe we were in the top 4 of teams whose games were on the TV the most so it cannot be down to the style of football. Can only be because there are high audience figures for our games.

Peter Beardsley at M&S Kingston Park this lunchtime. Started walking towards the shop and then went back to the car for a carrier bag!

It must be difficult for Moyes though. He has been there a long time now and so have some of those players so it must be hard to keep it fresh as the players must have heard the same things so many times. Maybe it has just all gone a bit stale and a change of some sort is needed to freshen things up and because of the financial situation, he can't really go out and buy a few players. Moyes, himself, maybe needs a new challenge and a move to a new club with different issues to broaden his experience.
