Supposedly West Brom are in for Jonny Evans as Man Utd are willing to sell. Would he be suitable for us? An experienced British centre half? They keep saying they need to get more Brits in the team and other than Austin, I don't think we have been linked with any.

If he is already going on about Champions League football at his age, then he won't hang around for long. The club would probably know that and will be hoping to make a big profit on him. The problem is if we do sign him, we need to plan straight away for his replacement and bring them in before he leaves. They cannot allow the current striker situation to occur again where they let several go and don't replace them.

It's f***ing painful to watch I can't think of another manager who is so desperate to be loved. It really is quite sad. I remember when Hughton was here that the first time his name was sung, that he had to be prompted by Calderwood to acknowledge the fans as he was so wrapped up in the game that he hadn't heard it. Whereas Pardew always had his hand up at the first syllable. I think for Pardew to do an OK job, he needs to stay humble - feeding his ego will not help the team as he loses focus. Happy for it to continue at Palace though because it will lead to his downfall.

The problem with "controlling" the media so only a positive message gets out means they can never be personally challenged. OK journalists may still write opinion pieces but they will probably be influenced by their exclusion so that will lead to an overly negative message. The main reason they get negative press is because of their poor decision-making they have made and the contempt they show for all and sundry and the terrible football. To gain more favourable press, they need to build relationships but they haven't got a clue how to do that. By excluding most of the media, they are just guaranteeing that most of them will be looking for a reason to be critical. I rarely read anything on the official website and their emails get lodged in my work's email quarantine system. Anything that I get to see is mostly bland and uninformative. I certainly don't want to only read an article they have sanctioned. I would far rather read something written by Caulkin with the quality of writing and emotional investment about McClaren's training methods that anything written by Lee Ryder.

certainly could have been a factor, already familiar with him and knows he'll have the team built around him with Pardew. And he knows he will be hugely indulged by Pardew. He will be dictating the show there. Wonder if there will be any dressing room resentment if they are really paying the wages reported - which must be double of any of their other players. There are not many French boys there who will hang off his every word like when he was here.

Scott Wilson @Scottwilsonecho 2 hrs2 hours ago #NUFC squad split into two for training games - looks like Steve McClaren overseeing the defence and Ian Cathro working mainly with attack. So can we blame McClaren if we concede goals and Cathro if we don't score them.

Indifferent to Sissoko leaving. If he goes so be it, if he stays it will be interesting to see what McClaren does with him. But as our supposedly "star" player, he needs to be replaced with quality rather than a cheap option. Not totally convinced that will happen.

As the player keeps saying himself since he was at Bastia but for some reason we are not listening. Although, I suppose they can trot the old "we tried" excuse. Just hope we move on instead of continuing to waste time on him.

I don't think McClaren attending the Fans Forum should be that much of a surprise considering he is on the Board. All the Board Members (excl. Ashley) have regularly attended the meeting.

If we were serious about this signing there's no way we would be confirming it. So it looks like we are using the Mirror to send people on a wild goose chase while chasing other targets, probably of a cheaper and shiter nature. Usually when the papers make stuff up, the club gets the lawyers to send out a few legal letters. But they are happy enough to drop a few rumours out there to try and keep fans onside.

If Austin ends up at West Ham, I wonder what that means for Carroll. Will they get rid or just keep him as a (very expensive) squad player.
-
I heard Andy Brassell talking about Rolan and saying he should be avoided at all costs. Good player but a troublemaker and falls out with everyone at the club. He missed the end of the season because the club had had enough of him and told him to stay away. And the rumoured price is way over what he is worth.
-
I was talking to a colleague yesterday who is a Spurs supporters and going on about how many clubs are overtaking us now and West Ham was one of the clubs I mentioned. He was adamant that they wouldn't fill the stadium and didn't think they had or would improve much anyway. I said I thought they would fill the stadium (eventually) because they would become a tourist attraction - Premier League football at affordable prices (for London) at the Olympic Stadium. However, I didn't count on fans of other clubs buying ticketsfor them!

Wonder what happened to those two young Spanish players we were supposedly going to sign a few months back.
-
I doubt we are interested anymore. We refuse to get involved in bidding wars and will let it be known that we "stepped aside". If they had gone for him as soon as the season ended, they would probably have got him.

Van Persie was probably the best player in the PL when he went to Man Utd and that was only 20m with one year left. Austin is mainly a poacher who has had one season in the PL. 15m is still a lot of money anywhere outside England and we could get a lot better player for that price from abroad That was also years ago, prices continue to inflate, and the english player premium still exists today It was about 3 years ago. They can't have inflated that much. We could get basically any player in La Liga outside of the top five for 15m and similar or less wages than we would have to pay Austin Well, it's not far fetched imo to suggest transfer fees in general may have increased by 50% in that time. Nowadays 10m gets you a promising youngster or a good player from the Championship, not a number 9 who has just scored 18 in his debut season in the Premier League. No one will spend £10m on a youngster or a Championship player unless they have got something special about them and a real chance of making it to the top. Generally only a player who shows signs of potential will tempt a club to pay that much. Fulham paid £11m last season for Ross McCormack. Leicester paid £8m for Ulloa. Desperate clubs will pay the money.

Perez and De Jong are intelligent players. Adding Cabaye to that would really improve our attacking play.

I think the lack of new signings and apparent inactivity might encourage those players who were prepared to give it another season to ask their agents to see if there is any interest in them. There is no way the better players will want to be embroiled in another relegation battle next season. The club is going to have to accept they will have to pay more for players. All the Premier League clubs are cash rich and clubs abroad know English clubs have the money especially Newcastle. If they end up shopping in the bargain basement then we will inevitably end up with a weaker squad and a relegation battle from the off. Good coaching can only take you so far - if you have poor defenders and strikers, then you are not going to pick up many points especially when virtually every team has already improved their squad.

Thauvin has rejected us numerous times. How many times more before they get the message? At least go after targets who might be interested in moving to us rather than spending months on those that don't. They need to realise that other clubs don't operate like us. Just because a club receives an offer, it doesn't mean they will rush to get the player out of the door regardless of whether he wants to leave or not.
-
I think all of the promoted clubs have a decent chance of staying up.
-
Junior is supposed to be going out on loan next season anyway.
-
Of all our players, he is the one I dislike the most. Hope he is on way out this Summer rather than Krul.
-
Maybe he will change his mind when he sees him in action.

Copying Sunderland in emails from the manager. Guess that is their idea of improving communications and cutting out the media in the process. In the meantime, the message from that email is #wait.

Didn't even know we had a YouTube channel.
